Day 1 - bait has been purchased and the hook baited

So, the time has come to start this journey. I have tinkered over the last 10 days at NL10, NL25 and NL50 6 max to get a feel for the games. I hate to admit it but I am a fish and learnt pretty quickly thay NL10 will be my starting point.

There are pros to this though, it means I actually begin my journey fully rolled for it. At the higher stakes I would have had to start with more aggressive BR management which would likely have ended in disaster as it is hopefully that will not happen now.

So the point of the blog is to:

A - keep me motivated

B - keep track of my success and failures

C - provide somewhere to post all my questions and keep them in one place

D - hopefully get some advice as I move through the stakes.

Below are my starting position, rules and guidelines (surely all rules will get broken)

 $500.00 opening balance which represents 50 buy ins at NL10.

Bankroll rules

* 50x minimum buy ins before playing a new limit i.e. $500 for NL10, $800 for NL16

* To avoid getting bored I can try new limits when I have 35 BIs i.e. NL16 I can try when there is $560 in my bankroll, mix in two tables with my current limit tables.

* I move up to new limits fully when I have 50 BIs in my bankroll i.e. NL16 = $800, NL25 = $1,250, NL50 = $2,500, NL100 = $5,000

* If my bankroll drops to 30 BIs then I revert back to the lower stake.

* Goal is to reach NL100 by Xmas, playing 4-6 tables, 20-25 hours a week with a 2BB/100 hands record for NL100.

Opening hand selection - standard open with 3.5-4b

Small blind (Villain VPIP affects the width of opening range)

    * JJ+, AK, AQs, KQs (3 bet if there is a late position raiser)

    * QQ+, AKs (3 bet if there is an early raiser otherwise call the rest)

    * 10+, ATs, AJo+ (otherwise call against a raise)

Big blind (Villain VPIP affects the opening range)

    * same as button opening hands if folded around to SB and SB opposes me (limps)

    * JJ+, AK, AQs, KQs (if there is a late position raiser)

    * QQ+, AKs (3 bet if there is an early raiser otherwise call the rest)

    * 10+, ATs, AJo+ (otherwise call against a raise)

    * Alter if my BB is challenged every circuit (widen re-raising hands for a spell)

UTG (open with raise to 3.5-4 bb)

    * 66+, A4s+, AJo+, KTs+, KQ

MP (open with raise to 3.5-4 bb)

    * 66+, A2s+, ATo+, K9s+, KQ, QTs+, T9s+

    * 3bet with QQ+, AK, AQs, KQs call with 10+, ATs+

CO (open with raise to 3.5-4 bb)

    * 55+, A6s+, All Broadway, K7s+, Q9s, 98s+

    * 3bet with JJ+, AK, AQs, KQs call with 88+, ATs+, QJs+

Button (open with raise to 3.5-4 bb)

    * 22+, A5s+, A9o, All Broadway, K8s+, Q9s, J9s-T8s, 87s+

    * 3bet with 10+, All Broadway, call with 66+, 87s+

Exceptions

     * Call with all pairs if implied odds when hitting the set are there i.e. deep stacks 2+ callers

nbs

1. I have removed some small +EV opening hands from the blinds like 88+ and most Axs and Kxs combinations. This is until I learn to play better post flop.

2. VPIP of a raiser along with PFR and 3bet % will alter the above ranges slightly but currently I have such a small sample of hands most players will be relative unknowns so will stick to the above.

Gameplay rules

* No continuation bets unless the following holds true:

    1. I was the preflop aggressor

    2. The board is looks dry (or to have missed villain)

    3. Only facing one opponent

OR

    1. I am in position

    2. The flop is checked to me

    3. The board is looks dry (or to have missed villain)     4. Only facing one opponent

* No double/triple barrels. If called on the flop Cbet then check/call down turn and river OR fold.

The above may seem tight etc but I have lost a lot of money trying for continuation bets in the wrong places. When my preflop play improves I will loosen up a bit on the above.

* Assume villains check/call when weak or marginal and raise/shove when they are strong. Do not over think!

* Review players at each table every 30 minutes. If there are no obvious fish, leave the table and find a new one.

* Don't play heads up - the swings are too big for my current level and I do not have HU experience.
