Reboot

A few weeks ago I withdrew my BR with the intentions of taking a break from the game. I'd become to wrapped up in it and was feeling the swings way too much. Since then I'd pretty much just been on holiday, or more accurately, doing what I normally do just without a 6 hour poker chunk. As I've played poker pretty much every day for the last 6 months (dumb idea) it's been really cool not having to think about it.

Last night on skype a friend I hadn't talked to in ages hit me up and was like "dude I think I owe you 1.5k and totally forgot, can I ship on stars" and I was like "omgz I'm like a micro sauce123!!". I thought for a bit about withdrawing it but then decided to just see this as a freeroll and try a new approach which involves:

  • Not trying to move up as fast a possible: The whole time I was grinding before I'd be thinking I had to get back "to where I should be" asap, taking shots all the time (which I'm terrible at), constantly on a short roll playing higher (which RoR will eventually catch up to) and obv I never felt comfortable with the swings when they are such a large part of my BR. So I'm just going to play poker to play poker and glance at my results every weeks then decide if I want to play a little higher, but definitely not be in a rush to.
  • Not making poker a focal point of my life: I was watching a video with Tim Ferriss where he said he diversifies his life into lots of different areas and interests so if any of them aren't going too well at the time he doesn't feel like crap because he hasn't wrapped up a ton of his self worth in any one thing. I've heard that before but it really struck me that if a badass like Tim has to do that then I stand no chance without it. Also the break made me realize how involved I was with poker, it was the main thing in my life and I'd organize things around it. So I'm taking up more interests and just letting poker be one of those interests too. In the last 2 weeks I've started putting more focus on diet/exercise (18 -> 13% bodyfat in 2 weeks woo woo), learning music again and going to yoga classes. Soon I'd like to add some kind of crossfit/jujitsu thing as well. This is pretty ambiguous I guess but if anyone has any cool ideas for things I could try post it in the comments, I'm mainly looking for practical things which are pretty well structured and I can see progress (so like, learning a new language) but obv would go for something that seemed badass like skydiving.

So yeah going to see how adding the poker in goes, if it works out great and if not that's cool too. Oh also I've been getting up at like 4-5am lately which is awesome, I go for a walk straight away and everything is super quiet, going to bed early if tough though. And I watched Drive a few days ago and it's easily my favourite movie of the last few years.

Good luck working it out.

Are there any indoor rock climbing gyms in your area? If so, I highly recommend taking it up as a hobby. You can see your progress, get a nice workout, and it's really fun.

Glad to see the blog is back!

Are you going to be starting with PLO or NLHE?
