January has come and gone, and with it sees a really strange month for me as a poker player.

I started January off with setting some goals of learning a new game to help supliment playing HULHE. I tried out some HUPLO. I played about 3k hands of it and ended down $500ish. Not terrible, but it wasnt really what i wanted to be doing.

I played a bunch of HUHU, with pretty mixed results I was up about 1k, but my winnings came at 3/6 and 5/10, and i had some losses at 8/16 and 10/20. I felt pretty unsatisfied about the whole thing.

At the end of the month I wanted to grind some FPPs so that I could get in on the January VIP store bonus on stars. I decided to play some full ring at the 5/10 level. I watched a BBB video and felt like i had it basically mastered. cue upswing. I played 5k hands and won 2.4k.

The month was weird for a number of reasons. One i just showed, as the last 4 months of 2009 were spent playing exclusively huhu. Also, i started January on my worst monetary downswing ever.

This was really mentally hard on me, as i’ve never really dealt with a downswing like this before. This was also the first month that I have been playing semi-professionally (I was laid off my job and now work casually for them).

On the plus, im hoping that my full ring career will continue and i’m seriously considering going for supernova in the coming months. If I am to do that I will be attempting to get there by april sometime. I am currently 6tabling 5/10FL, which gives over 1vpp/hand so im going to be getting there in relatively short order, as an example i played 1.5 hours tonight and got in 535 hands. My math suggests that i’ll get a little over 1kvpp in 3 hours, meaning that i’ll need to play 90hr/month for 3 months to do it. I think this is pretty achievable for me, but we’ll see.

I’m going to check out FPP Pro to see what else i can learn about it.
