Up All Night

What It Do DC?

Lots has changed in my life since the last time I blogged.  I'll get the non-poker stuff out of the way first.  I wrote last time about trying to get some real life work, and after submitting my resume to half a dozen places in town that could use my expertise as a teacher, I got an interview with NUKO, which is sort of an alternate school for special needs kids.  My role there immediately will be as a support worker (helping individual students, but they are looking to be expanding, and if things go well, I may be taking on a more active teaching role in the near future.  It seems like a good place, and I've always had an interest in working with special needs kids, so hopefully this will be a good fit.  As a huge added bonus, its only 5 hours a day 3 days a week, so I'll still have a ton of time to be a part time poker player.

Speaking of poker, I've gone back to my roots and been grinding a ton of small stakes LHE.  I played 26k hands of poker since my last blog.  I had mediocre results, but feel like I know what I'm doing so much more than I ever have playing TD or PLO.  The game just makes sense to me.  I'm planning on making a run for supernova at the end of the year, and hope to use this blog to talk about the pacing of the run and how many hands i'll need to put in to make it happen.

my HEM claims that at 2/4 i earn about .54 vpp/hand and at 3/6 .81  i currently have 48221 points earned for the year, and to make SN I need to play 96k hands of 2/4 or 64k hands of 3/6.  Last month i played probably 80% 2/4, as the games are almost always better.  I have now played enough that I've seen and played with a fair number of the regs, so with my colour coding and the help of PTR it's somewhat quick to find decent tables for a session.  I've been 6 tabling, and seem to get close to 600 hands/hour (maybe like 550 but it gets closer to 600/hr the longer a session goes, for obvious reasons).  I don't play sessions longer than about 75 minutes, but try to get a few sessions in a day.

I'm not exactly sure how many hands I will be able to play for the next week, as I am working basically a full time week doing custodial work, but it's mostly evenings, so I should be able to get some morning sessions in, there are more games and the quality tends to be decent.

Some targets for myself this month:
30k-35k hands (gives me a nice cushion for going into the christmas holidays if i don't want to be playing toooooo much, but i'll do it if i need to)
post 20 hands in the forums
do a couple session reviews with SIide or anyone else that's playing around my level and is interested

I've been really enjoying the new Blink182 album, and have also been listening to a bunch of Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, Brand New, and other emo bands that I loved 7 years ago.  I still love them.
I just read Nic Sheff's second memoir We All Fall Down, and am now burning through an anthology called The New Dead edited by Christopher Golden.  I also read the first Harry Potter book, and will probably be working through them quickly, as my wife is reading book two right now.

be well.
