Pigs Fly
What It Do DC?
I suppose avoiding talking about the big bomb dropped on US players is impossible. That sucks for all affected. I think that my life will continue as normal, but the games will possibly get better through the lack of the US players, who are probably better than the average worldwide player.
A lot of interesting things to read about on the subject, Wicked Chops and Pokerati are both excellent sources through all of this.
In my poker life things are grinding along. I've had a really trying time learning PLO and have yet to hit a groove where I really feel like I'm way better than people I'm playing. It's possible I need to be more game selective, as there are a number of players who are making horrendous mistakes preflop and postflop that I should be able to exploit. Like, playing 90%+ of hands oop has to be bad. playing trips in and out of position has to be bad, but I'm just not able to take these guys for all the money that I think I think I should.
I'm confident I'll figure it out, but it could take some time. I'm going to watch some Galfond vids to try to get myself sorted.
I'm off to Vancouver tomorrow to see The Deftones, a favourite band of mine that for various reasons I've never been able to see live. I haven't listened to them a ton in the last few years, but I couldn't pass up on this chance. I'll be checking out the Edgewater casino, and depending on what is running, either sit at the 4/8 Kill lhe game, the 2/5 PLO game (I'll probably shortstack it) or maybe just play some 1/2 NL. I don't have any idea how to play NL, but it can't be that hard. I'll also get to see my sister, which should be nice, as we don't get to see each other often enough now that she lives away.
I just finished watching the Vancouver vs Chicago game and am really happy that we walked away with another victory. I think that Torres played like a goon and should probably be out of the line up for game 4, and put Cody Hodgson back in. We'll see.
I also entered my first ever playoff draft pool, which was a ton of fun. I got the 3rd overall pick and got Ryan Kesler. The draft was set up so that everyone had to take exactly one player from every team, so the trick was to take your player early from teams you thought would go deep. I took Lucic from the Bruins second, and that's looking like a mistake.
I'm feeling pessimistic about my personal poker life right now, but hopefully I can get some ideas from these galfond videos, and take a look at getting some coaching in the near future. Coaches already seem ready to slash rates, as not playing means needing to fill more time with coaching to get the hourly.
keep your chin up USA, you'll get through this! =)
