What It Do DC?

What a month.  I finished July on an epic upswing that took me from -800 on the month to +5800 in about 5 days.  I was helped along the way by running super hot in the 24 HUsngs i played - i went 19/24 in the 105's to 240's.  i obviously ran worst in the 210's only winning 7/10 =P

Everything else is going really great in my world.  Married life is good, but my wife and I are now feeling kinda fat, as all we've done since getting married is eat.  Tomorrow is the start of Waugust.  all water all the time in August - except for a small glass of juice in the morning to take my vitamin pills, and possibly smoothies when I want them, because those are way better than having a pop or whatever.

I had an interesting conversation with a couple of friends last night about me being a poker player.  All of my wife's friends know that I play, but not really how much money I play for.  We talked about it last night and they were a little taken a back by it.  The part that interested me most though was that the female part of the couple was pretty certain that gambling is just an addiction, and her main concern is that my wife is monitoring it so that I can get help if/when I stop winning (and therefore it becomes a problem... its not a problem when you win!)

It's really hard to explain how gambling works to people who don't know, and I guess they get it when I say that there is a certain amount of luck involved and that over a short period anyone can win, but given enough hands the better player will always win.  Something that I didnt use, which i could have was the idea of rolling a die where i win when I roll 3456 and you win when you role 12.  you could win over a short period, but you wont given some time.

Oh well, I guess thats why i dont talk about the stakes I play with anyone except the friends that I have that gamble.

August is going to be my last full month grinding before we go away on our European adventure.  I have 7 days of work for the City lined up, totally around 45 hours, so thats nice to get a little steady income, and it also allows me to listen to some podcasts while working, and do some of my Real Estate course while on breaks.

I'm also meeting with a commercial real estate company for the 3rd time on Thursday, which is really great.  They seem interested in hiring me when I get back from Europe and that would be a really great job opportunity.

I play poker because I love it, and the fact that I make money from it is awesome.  Its also great that for the last 7 months I havent had to keep a full time job and have gotten to play poker as my main source of income.  I also realize that given the state of the poker games, and HULHE in particular, I would need to put in a lot of work to make money at a new game.  It's sometihng that I want to do, but in the long run, I think there is considerably more money to be made in commercial real estate than in poker for me.  Very few people make 100k/yr playing poker, and I think that number is a possibility for real estate.  who knows though, i thought I was going to be a teacher for a long time too.
