Dancing Through Sunday (Vegas Trip Report)

What It Do DC?

I'm home from Vegas, and I had a pretty good time.

I don't really want to write about everything that happened in order, as I think that would take a long time and wouldn't be very interesting to most people.

So I'm going to try to write a few stories of things that happened and go from there.

Poker/Gambling wise I lost every prop bet I made with my friends over the weekend, except for one where I pushed on the size of a theatre we went to.  I won the size o/u but lost the lodden thinks o/u when we asked my old man.

I also lost any time I sat down at a pit game, which thankfully wasn't often, but We had a few lowstakes adventures with the Spin Wheel.  She's a cruel mistress.

I played 4 sessions of poker that went like this:  -$50 at the 10/20 at the rio.  had a good table including a guy who, if you pointed at him and asked if he was raising this hand, would smile and raise that hand.  I folded AA on the river of one hand where I raised, got coldcalled and a defend from the BB, 652dd flop goes: ch I bet, raise, BB 3bets, i 4 bet, call call.  turn 7, ch, bet, call call. river is an 8, BB bets, i snap fold, MP calls, BB shows a straight (ldo).  Nothing else that interesting happened in that session

next day we played the 8/16 at the Venetian.  GrantKropf and I shared 10% at the game.  I ended up +583 and he was down like 260, so I took home $500ish from that session.  It was a pretty OK table that I ran really good at.  I had AA 3 times in an hour and showed it down for 3 streets of value 3 times.  A tendency I noticed was that a turn c/r was SUPER strong.  So I did some turn semi-bluff raising which was super successful.  once with QJ when i picked up open ended on the turn and once with K9 when i picked up a flush draw and a gut on the turn.

Final day I couldnt get into the 8/16 game immediately and only had about 90 minutes to play my first session so i played the 4/8 1/2Kill o8 game.  it was fine and i lost about $80 in it.  I got the nuts preflop in AAK2ss but didnt do anything with it.  game played 5-8 ways preflop on almost every hand, I played tight and bet a bunch when i thought was best and then folded the river when someone else would get there.

I then played another session in the evening at 8/16 in which i sat at the worst of the two tables they had going, lost some money, moved to the really good table (4 girls sitting who i observed limping a bunch and another guy I played with the day before who was too loose).  My friends showed up within 10 minutes of me moving tables and had finished a bottle of Jagar, so my session there finished quickly.  I lost 130.

Total for the trip was +250 at poker and -180 at pit games, as well as 4 $10 sports bets, one of which is dead and 3 of which have some long term sweat to them. (the Ducks at 30/1 and the Coyotes at 40/1 to win the cup next year as well as Uruguay at 12/1 to win the WC, which i bought when they were the only team through to the 1/4final)

Other than gambling we did some pretty fun stuff.  I saw a friend of mine who I lived with years ago and I hadnt seen in 2 years since he moved to Boston.  We hung out most of the first day before he went home.

We saw Frank Caliendo and Mystere, both of which were excellent.  We also went to The Gun Store to shoot guns.  I had never fired anything other than a pellet gun, so this was a really neat experience for me.  I got the WW2 package, which had a Thompson MP40 and a 1911 .44 Pistol.  both were really neat.  I have some good pictures/videos that i'll post later.

We ate a lot of food using our buffet passes.  I also got to have a lot of Raspberry Iced Tea, which is hard to come by in Canada (ninja edit: my Fiancee just came home and told me that the kind of iced tea i liked was now in the store with raspberry) I also ate at Chipotle, which was really good/cheap.

I got to meet OnTheRail15, Fnupple, and Ms Bungle on the last night were were in town, which was really cool.  We tried to get a 4/8 mix game started but the Venetian wouldn't accommodate us, which was unfortunate.  Hopefully next vegas trip I'll be around for the meet ups so I can actually spend some time with the DC people!

If I think of any more good stories I'll post a random thoughts post as well.
