What It Do DC?
Just a semi quick life and poker update!
Poker is going fantastic. I've been on a super sick heater the last week or so, and am well over my best month total and its only the 19th. Obviously that can change in a heartbeat, but running 3x hotter at your highest stake than at your lowest stake automatically makes your month awesome. (and I'm running above my historical winrate at 5/10 as well!)
I've been semi-neglectful of the Robusto project the last 2 weeks, probably in some part to poker going really well that I just want to play and not do anything else poker related instead. I'm going to commit some time to getting back on track with that and getting in touch with my squad to see where they are all at.
Just to keep myself in check I'm going to relate a story of my worst single losing session against one player. I set somewhat stringent stop losses for myself because I know how losing money affects me. It affects me less if its over a few days than over one shot, so I try to stop if i lose a bit. One day a couple months back I started the day off REALLY well. like up 900 at 5/10 against a couple different players. This was during a long breakeven stretchn, and I thought I had found the light. I got sat at 10/20 by a player who PTR told me was a large losing player, so I was quite excited. I proceeded to run like death and jam off about 30BB (600), and decided that if I got back to even for the day, another 15BB, I would quit and just take that for what it was. At even, i decided to play a little more, and then a little more, and all of a sudden I was down almost 1k on the day.Â
I finally quit without destroying myself, but it was an awful moment and an awful feeling. I am usually pretty good with quitting and not tilting off money, but this was a clear case where I lost a lot more than I needed to. I never had more than $600 in my stack (it auto reloads to 400 every hand im under), and just kept losing and losing. I learned a valuable lesson that day.
Other life stuff: wedding planning is going well. I got our marriage license yesterday, and we have done almost all the major parts that can be finished up to now.
I also booked flights and Eurail passes for our upcoming Europe trip! If you're a Euro DC'er and want to meet, PM me and we can try to figure out when I'll be in your neck of the woods. I'll blog a better update of what the trip is going to look like later on.
I've been watching a bunch of World Cup and enjoying it. The teams I follow somewhat closely are Denmark and England. great day for Denmark today, and England has been hugely disappointing so far. I made a big run in the DC WC pool today, and shot myself out of the gutter and into contention!
Take it easy.
