What It Do DC?

Life and Poker have been pretty good the last week and a half.

I broke out of a 14k hand breakeven stretch last week. Things just clicked and I ran super hot for like 5 days. It’s felt really good. It’s cooled off a bit, but I’m not even phased. I feel happier about my game and poker. Its weird how winning does that for you.

Here are a couple hands that I played that I thought were pretty interesting:

The first is actually probably more standard than it looks. calling down with QJ high is not standard, but once the river bricks like that he is either winning or he isnt. I dont have K or A high there bluffing ever. Some people might, but I never do.
I was a little shocked that he had that, and I made a note to start betting A high for value more =)
The second hand isnt really that interesting, its mostly notable to em because villain flush over flushed me twice in like 6 hands, and waited until the river to put in action both times… I think thats a mistake, because he can get a lot more bets out of a pair and a good spade or whatever… or two pair. I’m putting in some action with that as well.

Life has been really good the last while as well. I went to Vancouver with my fiancee on Saturday to go visit a couple friends (one of whom just got accepted in to med school). We also went to see Frightened Rabbit I’ve put songs of theirs in my “currently listening” sign off a few times. They are one of my favourite bands of the last 18 months and I really recommend checking them out. The Midnight Organ Fight is a spectacular album and a few songs to sample would be The Modern Leper, The Twist, and Keep Yourself Warm. We saw them at the Biltmore Cabaret, which is a venue i’ve never been to, but was great. It was pretty small, and the crowd, while hipster heavy, was very good.

Tonight we just got home from seeing Our Lady Peace who are Canadian Alt Rock icons. They are doing a classic album tour, and tonight they played Clumbsy in its entirety. Tomorrow night they are back again to play Spiritual Machines. Both are fantastic records. I had a great time tonight.

In other life news, I’m considering/planning to get my real estate license. My goal is to be enrolled in that by the end of the week. Hopefully that happens. We’ll see.
