The Rat Who Would Be King
What It Do DC?
Life’s been good the last week or so.
It’s getting sunny in my little piece of the world, and I’m getting to put on shorts again, which i enjoy. Very comfortable and roomy, haha.
I’ve been teaching preschool all week. This is something that I’m quite enjoying. The hours are good (18 hours/week… 3/5/3/5). I’m also only the assistant, so I don’t have to do any planning or much actual ‘teaching’ (although the direct instruction in preschool is minimal). The kids are hilarious as they say and do the most ridiculous things over and over. I may have mentioned that before in a previous blog, but I can’t state enough the amazing insights you get by listening to 3-5 yr olds talk. I finally got one kid who doesn’t talk to adults to talk to me yesterday.. it was only single word direct answers to questions, but I was pretty happy. I also found out another little girl speaks Russian. I had her tell me about her day in Russian… awesome.
We’ve been getting some good wedding planning done, and I’m going to buy a suit tonight. We also looked into getting our sound system for the wedding, as we’re not doing a DJ. I am also planning my vegas stag right now and am in the process of looking into interest and then booking rooms/flights. We are going to be in vegas June 25-28 for any DCer that wants to hang out. I really want to meet everyone.
Poker is amazing. I had my best single day ever a couple days ago for a more than 2.3k score. Most of it came from one villain who ran a little bad and played too aggro/sd bound against me. He managed to jam away 1.4k in 90 minutes.
This was the last real hand we played in our match before he challenged me to move up to 15/30. It was late and I didn’t feel very comfortable playing higher. I think had i been able to sell off some action and he asked me 2 hours earlier in my night, I would have done it.
He lost his mind a bit here.

My month has been a pretty steady move up and i’ve run extremely well at 10/20. I’m very happy about this, and also aware that I will not always run like this and am prepared for the inevitable leveling out or downswing that will occur at some point.
After such a struggle in February, I’m glad to be playing/running well.
Something that I noticed doing some calculations about Absolute Poker:
If you have a deposit bonus, rakeback, rakechase, and you convert your points to money, your rakebake is damn dear 100%.
Something I don’t know about, and therefore cannot comment on exactly is how a deposit bonus affects rakeback.
but some numbers:
being a platinum VIP gets me 8 points/2 points per raked hand at 5/10 and 10/20. there is a 50cent rake on those hands of which 25cents is ‘your’ contribution. Obviously this can be skewed if you pick up a lot of pots or fight hard to win everything… you may end up winning more pots and therefore paying more rake… but lets assume its even.
in bonus clearing, AP gives you $5 of your bonus for 90 of the harder to earn points. you need to play 45 raked hands – $22.50 rake, $11.25 is yours to get $5 back.
That is 8.9cents out of the 25cents of your rake.
in converting points to dollars I worked it out to be 5.6 cents/25cents of contributed rake is returned.
In theory, I also get 30% rakeback – 7.5cents per raked hand (this may end up being less depending on how rb is affected by bonus or converting points)
I also got a bonus on my rake paid from a rakechase – last month i paid $247 in rake and got a $25 bonus for it. This is obviously not constant, but is certainly a perk.
so of the 25cents/hand i pay in rake i’m getting 22cents back + the rakechase bonus… if we assume i lose some for having a bonus, perhaps it evens out by subtracting the rakechase bonus…
if thats the case i’m getting around 88% rakeback. That’s pretty amazing and certainly something to consider for players putting in volume (more than me who plays huhu and plays on 3 different sites). If you can trust them again, you can certainly work out a pretty sweet deal on rake… they also have pretty regular redeposit bonuses, so keeping your rakeback near this level should be attainable.
