Kuvie's Log, Stardate 42409.1
End of week 1
Been losing pretty bad... feeling pretty bad, making a lot of bad decisions and a lot of confusion is resulting. There are a lot of voices talking all at the same time and yet there seems to be not one clear voice in the poker community of what is right and what is wrong. Some might consider this to be the best part of the game, but I think it's annoying. I mean, I've witnessed at least 4 errors in the "From the Ground Up" series- BASED ON THE TEACHINGS THEY THEMSELVES GIVE! Yet everyone else claims this is the best video series in the world.
I dunno, that likely means I'm just not getting it... or maybe I'm taking it too literally... but the games are VERY difficult to beat:
That's just 10nl. The players do not seem to think, I never get to showdown, my big hands never get dough- it seems the only big pots I win are the ones I suckout massively on. So let's tally this all up:
Players aren't adjusting. I never get to showdown because I'm never called. So... what's the solution? I know, bet like crazy. However, this isn't working. My redline is KICKING ASS.
I need help from people that have beaten a game of pylons and regs.

what are you playing on merge? The way you beat FT years ago probably won't work anymore for 10nl. There are plenty of regs that you won't get that much money off of mixed in with the fish, and if you can't alter your lines, and the way you think about your hand and ranges, more of the same will probably keep happening. My line looks the exact opposite of yours meaning my non showdown winnings are way negative and my showdown winnings are way positive. I don't know what your stats look like but your not going to win by bluffing lots at 10nl in my opinion. I play on a different network, but the regs that win most are very easy to spot and play noticibly better than the randoms and fish in the games. Most if not all play tight aggressive with the occasional check/call, check/call lines against know maniacs or spewers. And then they value bet the hell out of fish, no when to fold jj and qq pre against tight 3 bet or 4 bet players, and don't spazz off or tilt off buy in after buy in. Sometimes the more you want to win, the harder it is because you force things.

As Kerwinty said, forcing things will lose you money. What are the 4 things in From the Ground Up that you've noticed are wrong?

There are betsizing issues in the 3rd and 4th episodes, where they bet against players with similar stacks and stats- plus similar boards, yet they use two different sizes and don't remark on it. This might be me splitting hairs, but I'm a player with massive leaks and I need to know the correct amounts to bet in situations. They also mentioned only 3x'ing in the 2nd video preflop when they said in the 1st one that they should 4x, they then in the 4th one go back to saying 3.5-4xing fish is the norm. I dunno, very unclear. There are some other errors too, and although these might seem small- it really just results in me getting frustrated.
The worst part is that they might not be errors at all, and might be correct regardless- but I don't know and I'm the bad poker player trying to learn from the good.

I couldn't get your vid to download properly for some reason so wasn't able to take a look.
Typical preflop sizings differ based on who else is in the hand and where you're raising from. I never felt comfortable with 4x-ing it because not enough people fold postflop and I ended up losing too much when I had to give up. If people are calling too much postflop our implied odds go up so why would we want to make them smaller by opening big??
If you've got someone who'll call a lot but give up a lot on the flop, that's a different matter, go 4x, then 5x and keep going. People in the micros won't differ their ranges based on your open size, they'll either see a hand they like or one they don't. Very few people are going to go "ah, I'd have called if he'd bet 3x but he's bet 4x so this JTs is toast".

Just make it 3bb + 1bb per limper from every position. Try to keep it simple, 10nl isn't that tough, the main issue people have is that they make it unnecessarily tough for themselves.
