3 BLIND MICE
These ideas are far away from being worthy movie stories, but unfortunately I'm drinking GETSHITDONE JUICE and need to choose. The chosen one will be molded into STORY GLORY. All 3 interest me for one reason or another:
-The Queen of Spades has a creepy, supernatural feel to it, and it's a story about class conflict and human avarice. I get to pull from proven source material, and if I can pull it off, I can show that I understand how to adapt a short story into a film.
-Sci-fi is my favorite genre, and I love mystery, and dark fairy tales, and exploring some of the ideas in "On the Marionette Theatre." Reinterpreting the Adam and Eve story as socially relevant fantasy/sci-fi, with dramatically complex and flawed characters (some of which are robots!)--that seems like an awesome challenge.
-I have a need to write a story about the experience of being on a reality TV show. I have a lot to say about that, it was a unique experience, and there's all sorts of ways to tackle fun ideas about living in public vs private, the pursuit of fame, ego indulgence, and so on.
I might end up writing all 3, but I can't write them all at once. What do you guys think? In the end I'm going with my gut but will consider all thoughts/discuss all weekend. Going to make the final call on Monday. Then, CHARACTERS!

I like Reality Show and Queen Of Spades very much. F-Box less so.
Queen Of Spades-- it seems like the relationship with the maid is the central one. I'd say it might be a deeper and more meaningful story if the guy really does love her, and could in fact have a happy life with her, but can't get past this obsession.
Reality Show-- I'm having a lot of trouble resolving the card game in the beginning, where he starts out with a gigantic win, and the chef/cooking thing at the end, with what you describe in the middle. I suspect that once you develop the intrigue of the middle part you will discard these two other sections, or find some way to fold cooking or card playing into the activities in the middle. Ie if the card game is sort of like a game of "clue" where hints about what is really going on might be exposed, or clues to the mystery might be revealed-- then it might be fine. But having him get a windfall of cash at a game that's basically unrelated, whether he doubles down or not, I don't really see what that buys you.

QUEEN OF SPADES! There must be a scene that includes the playing of Hearts.
@Larrondo Yah the soldier and the maid characters are the central relationship. They are both using each other to get something they want. I'm not sure about what kind of love story it should be. There have been a few different film adaptations and operas, I haven't seen any of them yet, but each treats their relationship differently. Gonna be really important to nail that one.
I'm not doing Reality Show or F-box justice. I'll develop them further while I write Queen of Spades...
