back and forth!!!

So after some deliberation I’ve decided that it makes way more sense for me to maintain my blog at dangerlion.com and to use this one for other purposes from time to time. So yah – if you want to read my shizzle, dangerlion.com is the nizzles.

I’ll experiment with some other things here. First experiment – I’m wondering what you guys like best about our EPs and their videos. Which are your favorites? Moving into 2010 (after two years of making videos), I’m excited. Redundancy is not an option. Creativity is the watchword.

So who do you like seeing do what, and why? What do you want to see from our top tier of instructors (including me)? What are our strengths and weaknesses?

Best feedback might just get something special…

more FWF, more Flawless, maybe get Sensei and Vanessa coaching some dudes in some sort of their own parallel series, say "Uncoachventional Wisdom" (6 max NL plz, though it would be a sick PLO series). More vids that bring the viewers into the action and tickle braaaaains. We learn more if we're not sitting idle with our hands in tubs of butter.... popcorn.

Also, I would like to see Emil in a series called Chuckles Day Out where he pwns people and signature laughs immediately after :D

I like very structured, focused videos/series. Reviewing hands is great, but I like it best of all when it's tied to an overall theme or idea, rather than 'here are four interesting random spots I ran into yesterday.' Of course the latter is important too, and to some extent bread and butter content. But I like the series which are structured like a really great poker book. I think I learn the most that way.

From what I gather, DC was an innovator in several areas, and one of them was really emphasizing instructor's personalities. The instruction was put into an entertaining framework, with glimpses behind the scenes, including rivalries and challenges. Most of all, I think subscribers feel closer to the people making the videos. DC is warmer than the others.

I'll take some guesses about where the future arms race between training sites: I suspect the trend will continue towards entertainment, not in place of education but to make it go down easier. I think in three years we'll look back at old videos and say, "Jesus, that graphic with the funny baboon picture has been on the screen for a solid twelve minutes while the instructor is talking."

Part of the fun of the mentor/pupil series is the reality TV aspect-- there are personalities involved. Will the student be able to crush mid stakes after eight weeks of training? I'd definitely suggest adding a touch of 'real life' footage, to emphasize the characters and engage the viewer in on a more personal level. When possible, I'd have someone there to shoot the subjects, when that's not possible I'd just use computer cams, like video bloggers. Putting a face to the voice would add another layer of post production, but it's not hard to do, and I think it would be worth it. (I know lots of seasoned young camera men, fresh out of film school, who can make beautiful footage with no resources at all. You probably do too. Why not add some great looking b-roll here and there?) Like your own doc work-- if you could fold a little of the Busto to Robusto vibe in, I think it would add a lot.

You guys at DC know that poker is a game that is very seductive in terms of the lingo/look/mythology. There is a romance to it, which probably has a lot to do with why we all got hooked in the first place. I'd be looking to emphasize the drama, romance, and character, in ways that don't radically change what you do.

I love the site, btw.

Much more content from Euro sites such as Ongame. Ongame is one of the biggest networks outthere, but there is literally no videos from that given site. You must have many european subscribers... please for the love of god try pleasing us a little! :-)

1. I like it when two coaches are in the video.
Whether it be two coaches alone talking through a submitted e.g. coachtree series 1

or One student and two coaches as in the final episode of the last parallels video with baluga, whitelime and Insyder.

The reason why I think this works is that with two coaches they can discuss the merits of alternatives in a far more fluid and engaging fashion. Whereas if it is one student and the coach - what I think tends to happen is that because it is often not a dialogue either the coach or the viewer can be confused in or by the explanation as he runs through the variations.

Other good examples of series where this worked
Was your Pr1nnyraiding series 1 - you and wilt.
Dogishead/gmandatory.

Now I certainly see the merits in the traditional model as it gives us a good insight into what the coaching style of each player is.

But given for alot of subscribers getting coaching from yourself or whitelime etc is out of our price bracket - I think more of my suggested format is best for your top tier coaches. Despite the fact it might reduce the amount we see of you guys with the doubling up.

Finally I think it works better with no more than 3 because I found e.g. of Bonus 2m2m with flawless, youself whitelime and dani - as being just too cluttered despite the excellent content.
Another example is Coaching Series 2 bonus vid with baluga and all the coaches he introduced in that series in his around the horn style - had some merits but had too many voices and seemed to repeat itself sometimes.

Hope that helps.

Keep up the good work.
