Improving My Game

Due to my long hard shifts recently i have not had time to put any hands in.. I have however still been reading through various topics on forums and ertain blogs. I remember seeing a certain blog a few days back about a guy who couldnt handle tilt and coping with beats and the mental toughness of the game..He explained about the mental game of poker being an amazing book to deal with the mental side and improving your game.. I wouldnt say i have a massive problem with tilting since i have got used to beats in the past few years but i decided to definately buy it and give it a read in the hope it will improve my game in many different ways. I plan to put alot more studying in betwee the next few weeks and really try to push on. Hopefully will see some results

Nice Way to restart

After a fair few weeks off I finall found a da off work to load up pokerstars and get some hands under my belt for the day. I didnt feel like plaing cash straight away so decided to register for the $100k depositors freeroll and just get back into the swing of things. Since my bankroll was only a mere $50 to start with i didnt wanna risk jumping back into cash and losing the lot. So i started playing the freeroll and felt brilliant to be back playing. made one or two slightly questionable moves at the beggining of the tournament where i probably should of just folded in some spots.. needless to say around 3 hours in I was starting to make decent progress and was around the chip leaders.. After 5 hours of playing and 11,794 eliminations i made the final table. Absolutely delighted to be sat there 5th in chips. altho 9th place was still not exactly the biggest cash amount being only $13 it was at least a start of adding to the bankroll. so onwards and upwards.. the final table was short and sweet lasting only 45 minutes.. and it was the biggest yoyo performance i have ever done.. just couldnt hit much when in pots but then hit when i was almost out the door and needed it most. i'll skip the boring bit and skip to the part where i made it heads up with a 2:1 chip lead of 12 million to his 6.. and thats about all you nee to know when i flop a set of 7's and the guy jams with ace rag..So an amazing feeling of takeing that down since it was my first tourament win on stars. and felt unbelievable to see my bankroll boosted by $307 for the first place win. :) So Onwards an upwards.

Fresh

As a few people will have seen, i haven't posted anything or updated my blog in a very long time. The reason is because i have been very ill and have literally spent the past few weeks in the lovely company of my bed consuming all of 300 antibiotic tablets! After all that time off work and i havent been able to play a single hand. On The upside at least I got to watch all the group games from the euro. Anyway I'm finally back to 100% and ready to get back to playing.. And since its World Series time it always gets me in the mood to put alot of volume in. So time to get back to the tables and hopefully get back on the up!

Step Backwards Is Sometimes Good!

After having amazingly bad luck in my next session on wednesday morning I stopped playing and had to re-think.. if i carried on like this i was going to blow my roll completely.. not down to bad play but just been punhed in the face with the deck! every hand i got in good never held..(AA VS KK), (NUT FLUSH VS 2PAIR THAT RIVERED HOUSES) pretty standard beats which im not complaining about.. thats just what pokers about.. but i definately couldnt just carry on and wait for it to blow over in a day or two. After the session i decided to relax and made a decision that when i returned to the tables i would return to $2NL just for the time being to try and grind up the roll and try to earn some of it back..

Thursday Night: 23:45 PM

I got home from work at 23:15, grabbed a drink and the laptop and got settled down for a session on stars again.. A session which turned out to be quite a good one.. i quickly had a scan of the lobby to see what good $2nl games were running and then loaded up 4 tables.. things got off to a  good start.. i once again felt comfortable about the outcome of hands and felt great. Managed to make some really good value bets which got paid off and also managed to make some big folds which i am also happy with. My session  lasted for about 2 hours since i need to be up early. By the end of the session i was up on all 4 tables and had made $15.50 on the way which is a nice small profit to get the ball rolling again. I'm going to go over tonights session in the morning and make sure that there were no spots where i could of made more or lost less. Then i'll be heading straight back onto the grind again and hopefully onwards and upwards again

Early Days

Well i remember why i love and hate the game at the same time..

Sunday 8th April was an absolute perfect start. Woke up feeling very fresh and after a shower and some refreshments i headed to the tables raring to go. Things started off very well and immeadietly started hitting hands left, right and centre. Felt great and was even better that i had no plans for the day apart from poker. My main target as i said before was to try to turn myself into a winning player and stop the mistakes that i normally used to make.. by the afternoon i certainly felt like i hadn't put a foot wrong and was already turning a nice profit for the day. My session lasted the majority of the day and around 11 hours which was probably one of my longest sessions. Needless to say i went to bed a very happy bunny after making a profit of around $44.

Monday morning came and I decided to hit the tables again after a very successful easter sunday. This is now where i remembered what a cruel game poker can be at times.. Things didn't get off to a great start and i started seeing myself eat into my profits from the day before. A mixture of bad play on my part and quite a bit of bad luck saw me completely wipe the profit from the day before along with another $24.. STOP!! time for a RE-THINK.. i cut my losses and stopped for the day and tried to chill out for the remainder of the evening instead of chasing losses. First Leak in my game that i really need to sort out is start making notes on players instead of just playing the hands as they are dealt.. this would save me so much effort when i come to sit down again. Second Change i want to make is to start Warm-Up and Warm-Down sessions where i will use holdem manager to go over the previous sessions hands to see where i was making mistakes or leaking chips.. After a session i should really start to look at the session and reflect on various big hands that came up or little spots where I could of made more from the hand.

The Beggining

Hi Everyone,

May aswell start my blog by introducing myself and letting you all know abit about myself.

My Name is Kayle Sercombe I am 20 years of age and Currently live in York.. I got into poker at 16 when me and a few friends had a home game. Of course it was my first time playing poker and i had no idea what to do or why to bet. Needless to say i sucked but was completely taken in by the game and wanted to learn how to play. At this time playstation 2 had a poker game so i bought that and slowly worked out a basic knowledge for the game.. the more  played and learned the more i wanted to turn 18 so i could deposit online and play for real. Fast forward to my 18th birthday and i was straight online depositting on ladbrokes since most my friends used that site to bet on. in a few months i had turned my £5 deposit into £100 :) which wasnt bad going.. a week later i wont a tournament for £530 and life was good. i then made the transistion to pokerstars and got a bit lost and didnt really take it serious enough.. like all begginers, little things like tilt got to me and my poor bankroll management caused me to re-deposit one more than one occassion. 2 years on and i have decided to stop messing around and attempt to give this poker lark a massive crack!

I recently purchased Holdem Manager 2 as this is probs key since everyone on earth uses it nowadays. I'm going to be playing at $10NL as my starting level since i have played at that level before and its much more enjoyable for me than starting at the very bottom. its also probably the level that i play best at. I really want to kick on as a player and try to plug my leaks and turn myself into a winning player.. i will be looking at weekly and monthly graphs of how i am doing and going over my hands to see if there are any major areas where im making bad decisions that put me in tricky spots.

If Anyone is interested in doing some sweat sessions over skype or just going over hands then i will be definately interested so just message me for my skype addy.

I'll be updating this blog as often as possible and will try to keep you all upto date with every session and all the major hands. Alls thats left to be said is.. hopefully everything goes well and this can be a SUCCESS!!!
