Toughest Home Game Ever, Going to X-Games!
What’s up Degens?
Del – Mastermind (one of my fav songs ever, superrr sick beat. Be sure to check it out!)
Eminem – Chemical Warfare (pretty sick flow imo)
Mobb Deep – Give Up The Goods (listen to the last verse of the song; so sick!)
I also think everyone should check out AMT’s most recent blog post. Dude is a smart guy, and has some really cool strategy and insight into being a grinder.
Life has been pretty amazing lately, but super busy. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to play that much poker because school started again (FML), so the majority of my poker activities have been centered around coaching. I’ve also come to the realization that I’m completely cursed with computers. The Windows/Fusion part of my Mac pooped out, so HEM and all of my hands on Windows are basically gone, so I had to buy PT3 so I could play with a HUD on the Mac. Then once I finally got that working, the HUD would just simply not work, but fortunately a friend helped me get it up and running. It’s pretty frustrating having so many computers problems. I mean.. All I do is surf the web and degen. It’s 2010, why the fuck can’t shit just work?!?
I just picked up a bunch of new students, and a few of them are pretty sick poker players. One of the things I enjoy the most about coaching is having the opportunity to associate myself with a very wide range of poker talent. I’ve coached people who play .01/.02, but I’ve also coached people who play 5/10+. You’d be amazed at what kind of things you learn just from comparing the thought process between the different categories of players.
Something that’s cool about living in Las Vegas is having the opportunity to meet and hang out with some pretty high level poker players. A dude I met out here named Russ (loosefer on Stars) invited me and a couple of friends over for a “friendly†live game the other night. It was by FAR the toughest lineup of players I’ve ever sat with. Six handed, everyone at the table played professionally, and half of the players were 10/20NL or higher players. WTF was I thinking? Fortunately I escaped -$500, so I can’t really complain. I’ll probably go back and play eventually because I love the challenge, but I have to be massively -EV in the game. It’s great practice though, and the only way to get better at poker is to play people who’re better than you. I just wish it wasn’t so damn expensive to find them, ha!
I tried to get them to play HA to even it out a bit since NLHE isn’t really my strength as much as theirs, but nobody agreed :(. Here’s a few of their PTR’s. Pretty sick players. Better game selection next time?

I’m flying back to CO this weekend for the X-Games in Aspen. I’m stoked! My uncle lives up there, so me and a few friends are going to stay with him for a couple of nights. I went to the X-Games last year and it was a blast. Aspen is a really cool city, and the environment is electric with the games in town, so I’m sure the bars will be kickin’… Although snowboard chicks aren’t really my thing, maybe I’ll find a diamond in the rough, haha.
I’ve played a few hands, so I guess I’ll post some of the more interesting ones. The first one is only interesting because it’s one of those spots where you bet on the smaller side to induce, but then once you DO induce, you’re not sure how happy you are about it. The reason I was a little uncomfortable here was because Villain was pretty passive, so I wasn’t so sure he would do that as a bluff, since he probably just calls one more with big draws since I bet on the smaller side. If I do think there’s a chance he’s bluffing, I should probably just make up my mind and flat, and then let him bluff off the rest of his chips on the river instead of shipping and only getting called when I’m beat, but meh. I play bad apparently.

In the hand above, I’m curious as to what kind of line others would take on the turn. I decided not to c-bet the flop because even though you don’t get c/r’d a ton on this board, getting c/r’d would really suck because i have a lot of BD equity, and besides I can play the turn pretty easily in a lot of scenarios, so I think checking is fine. Villain is a kind of bad aggro reg. I keep going back and forth between leading and c/r’ing. What do y’all think?
Very standard. Villain is very aggro.

I think a c/c works too, but whatever you can do to induce works fine too, lol. Kind of a funky line I took, but I like it I think.

Seems like a great experience to play in such a game!

Hey KK, hand #2 - Is he going to barrel often? What is your line w nuts? If turn goes c/c, that is ok right? I like a ckr over a lead.
live_straddle88 posted on January 29, 2010 at 17:19 PM
What stakes were you guys playing in that "friendly" home game? If you're playing lower than 10/20 (which is the other guys' regular games) those are actually pretty cheap lessons if you think about it!
Hand 2 i like the c/r better than the lead also cuz you can knock out a lot of one way draws I think and the river will be a bit easier to play than if you just lead
going to the X games = sick brag

Haha, That game was so sick! Wow, I wasn't out classed whatsoever especially when Andrew Boccacia snap folds top set without even thinking twice when I river two pair, think I'm good, and raise him on an AQKJ10 board.......LOL I'm such a monkey

Hi Z and L-Straddle -
Thanks for checking out the blog! In regards to the hand y'all are talking about, my only issue with c/r'ing is that he really shouldn't and probably doesn't barrel that turn lightly given what my c/c'ing range is on boards like that. Given that my c/c'ing range on the flop is almost always a draw, that turn is pretty terrible for him if he has 2pr+, so I would expect him to check back his made hands that are looking to get to showdown more often than b/f'ing them. I can definitely see arguments for leading though too. The main goal is to always take the line that reps the widest range of hands, and imo leading would be pretty deceptive, but if he's really aggro then c/r'ing might be better.. Esp if he's ever going to b/f, since it would suck if he potted the turn and was committed with something that hurt our hand, like NFD or something.

Oh ya, and we were playing 1/2 with mandatory $4 straddle. Min buy in of $200, max of $1k, but most came in for max or a little less. Was totally fun!

Del – Mastermind (one of my fav songs ever, superrr sick beat. Be sure to check it out!)
Isn't this from Deltron 3030? By far one of the greatest albums of the past decade. I would comment on the poker, but the game has just beat me down and I have nothing positive to say anymore.

What's up Asidrane?
Been a long time man, how're things? Hit me up on G-Chat sometime!
Yep, it's on 3030. Sickkkk album man, I love it! You should check out People Under the Stairs if you like Del. They sound pretty similar. For a pandora station, put in the song "Acid Raindrops" by them.
