New House Bizz
What's up Degens?Â
Drake - Show Me A Good Time (Sick beat! I think Kanye and Timbaland are the only two producers that can make beats out of sounds that individually are irritating, but together sound amazing.)
DeadMau5 - So There I was (The more I listen to this guy, the more I like his music).Â
So there's a ton of IRL stuff to talk about, but for the most part I'll keep this a poker-oriented blog. I just moved into a new place last week with a few other cardplayers here in Denver (namely my buddies Chance, Danny, and Matt). Our place is really dope, and the move in process was relatively painless because it's fully furnished and nearby my old pad. If any of y'all make it out to Denver soon, come visit us in Cherry Creek!

Â
Unsurprisingly we've only been in the house for a week, but we've had the cops called on us twice for noise. Our property manager is already threatening to terminate our lease if we don't shape up, so I think we need to remember that we're living in a pretty nice neighborhood, and not the strip in LV anymore, so people aren't constantly partying and up until 6am everyday. Hopefully our landlord doesn't kick us out before the lease is up!
I've played some poker since the last blog, so I'll post a few hands. I haven't put in a ton of volume, but when I have sat down to play it's gone pretty well. 19 out of my last 23 sessions have been winners, so I suppose I can't complain. Although I did have my bad session as a result of tilt on Sunday that I'm not too proud of. It wasn't necessarily tilt, but I just played wayyyy too long, and was just basically spewing around and playing my D game because of it. It's a bummer because I started up like $1k for the session, then quit, and was about to go to bed, but saw an unbelievable 2/4 table running with a seat open.. 2 hours later I'm obv in the red $1k instead of being in the black $1k, but so it goes. I'm actually kind of glad it happened, because it reminded me of how bad it feels to tilt, and why I promised myself in the Spring that I wasn't going to play when I was in a poor state of mind. It's similar to when you drink too much, and then when you're hunched over the toilet yacking out your intestines, you remember why you don't like getting blackout wasted anymore, lol.Â
Anyways, here's some of the bigger and more interesting hands from my last few sessions.
Run Goooood!

Here I took a pretty non-standard line. Villain is 40/25 and is 3b'ing 12%. I figured this flop never hits his range, because he would've 3b the majority of hands that hammer this flop PF. So there's really no value in betting, since even if he decides to check back QJ**, QQ**, JJ**, AQ**, AJ** etc., I probably can't get three streets of value from them anyway. Those are probably only worth 1-2, which I can get on later streets anyway. And like I said, since his range will mostly be air, and I don't have any draws to protect against (having a GS and a T blocker helps too obv), c/c'ing seems optimal. Stacked him next hand fwiw hahah. Don't try to bluff me, I'm a passive ass monkey yo!

This one has a semi-interesting flop decision. Only 25 hands on Villain, but he seems pretty bad. He's already c/r'd once, and he's 3b'ing a lot. I think flatting the c/r is totally fine, because it's a board where he'll be c/r'ing light a lot (probably not total air, just semi-bluffing a lot lighter than normal). The main reason for calling here is that he basically always barrels the turn after c/r'ing, and more than half the deck is good for me, so I'll be able to take more advantage of him this way, instead of just shipping the flop where he might make a good fold.Â

So, 3b'ing smaller than pot is the nuts in a lot of situations, and I have an article about it written up that I'm saving up for a long strategy post, but here's an example of a spot where it worked out pretty well (I run good obviously). If someone can tell me the type of opponents 3b'ing small works best against and why, I'll ship you $10 on Stars, FTP or Cake.Â

Thought this one was pretty funny. Generally I don't limp UTG, but the table was really passive and I figured they'd let me get away with it. Sometimes I'd 3b this in position, but the problem is that I basically turn my hand face up against him, I don't get that much of my stack in, and my hand doesn't play that well in a 3b pot given how much of my stack I can get in. So I figured it would be easier to just play in position against him, knowing that he's likely to have big broadways/pairs, and just get max value on short boards/paired boards/bluff low boards etc.Â

Pretty tough for him to have me beat here. SD's are less likely on two-tone boards, I would've heard from basically any type of made hand already, and he snapped ship the river (snap actions are usually polar). c/c'ing FTW is one of the things I love about poker the most I think.Â

good to see that you're running good,
I assume that 3betting small IP works best vs players that 4bet only with AA and are also playing poor postflop (basically potting any board in 4bet pots).
In the JJ55ds hand, would you fold the river if you would have been deeper with Villain so that he would have bet like a 3/4PS bet or so?

3 betting smaller than P v.s. very tight players PF who never 4 bet light (e.g. usually only AAxx hands) and therefore have a very polarized range, v.s. players who play straight forwardly in a 3 bet pots and also v.s. anyone who is out of position :-)Because its easy to play correctly against these types of players Post flop, you can more easily avoid making big mistakes, often provided with excellent implied odds and they can provide excellent stealing opportunities as well. Generally all round +EV

Pretty good answers everybody, but I think Omahahaha has the best answer! Ship me your sn on Stars or FTP and I'll ship you the monies!
Ya, 3b'ing smaller works well against maniacs who 4b and always pot flops (3b size of 7-8bb instead of full pot means he can really only 4b to 25bb instead of 35bb, and generally when people 4b they pot any flop, so you're essentially getting the same implied odds but for a cheaper price).
KasinoKrime posted on August 09, 2010 at 18:40 PM
Ah, but yes against people who's 4b'ing range is very heavily weighted towards AA**, like you said.
KasinoKrime posted on August 09, 2010 at 20:10 PM
