PL-Oh.
What’s Up Degens?
50 Cent – You Not Like Me (Why can’t he rap like this anymore? Man, he was sick.)
Young Money – Pass That Dutch (Pretty good song off Wayne’s new album)
MGMT – Tend To Pretend
IRL stuff is going pretty well, although I wish I had more time to focus my energy on getting better at cards. I actually strained my rotator cuff playing too much Badminton (LOL getting a Badminton injury, what am I like 70?), so I’ve had to lay off from that and lifting for awhile which is sort of a bummer… Especially since the weather here is seriously unbelievable. Sorry East Coasters!
In poker news, there’s not a ton to post about right now other than the fact that I continue to be my own worst enemy at the tables. To be honest I’ve been running pretty terribly in the bigger pots, but haven’t been playing well either. Run bad + Play bad = lose.
I’m strongly considering doing the tilters anonymous coaching with JT, but the only thing holding me back is that I don’t really have necessarily a “tilt†problem. When I play, I don’t get angry or frustrated, I truthfully just play rather carelessly. It’s really difficult for me to play well if it doesn’t sting a bit when I lose.. And is probably the #1 contributor to why I haven’t moved up as high or quick as I’d like to. My process usually goes something like this..
1. Learn a bunch, put in a ton of effort towards improving your game.
2. Grind a bunch and pad the roll using my brand spankin’ new lines
3. Contract Cocky Spewy Syndrome (winners tilt) and give a ton of it back because, after all, spewing is way more fun than playing good right? Too bad it’s not as profitable.
4. Use my internal frustration and dissatisfaction with my effort as motivation for working on and improving until I’m playing A game again.
5. Repeat
Blah, so it goes. I suppose I can’t be too frustrated because I played all weekend and ended up basically even, but it’s a little depressing when you do a session review and you realize how many stacks you mindlessly gave away. Sleep in the bed you make, right?
Onto the hands. I’ll show the winners first. There were a ton of hands I wanted to post, but I only posted the bigger and more entertaining ones. There’s so many losers I wanted to post so I could berate myself but I’m saving them for a future post on how to not play PLO.
This one’s pretty standard, still fun though especially since this guy and I had been battling a bit up to this point.

Tough to say if I missed out on a lot of value here, but I don’t think you can assume that he shows up with a big hand because he was both barrely, and playing a 80/20 pre flop through 150 hands. I just figured he’d show up with a set, straight, or weak flush much more often than what he did have. This guy was a major fish though, so if I would’ve known he was this strong I would’ve played it differently.

This is kind of an interesting hand even though it’s standard. The guy who opened is very nitty UTG, so when he cb’s into two other players even in position it’s almost always 2pr or better. I like c/r’ing better than flatting because if a diamond or broadway comes on the turn it kills my action. Run gooot. 45% equity fwiw.

Losers:
This hand sucks a little because I got my money in very bad but I also don’t think I can fold. I think he takes the same line here with just AA**, and I figured that’s a big piece of his 3b’ing range because he 3b the UTG opener, so it just comes down to whether or not he actually has the spades with it or not. Bring the SD one time!

Don’t really like how I played this one, but I’ll explain my reasoning anyway. Flop is std, but basically my reasons for shipping the turn was that I didn’t think they were capable of c/c’ing the flop with the nut straight (guys were pretty fishy), and I also didn’t think I’d get paid if the river paired the board or brought the flush, but with all the money out there I didn’t think they would fold their draws so I could get the money in very good sometimes, and even if they had the nut straight I still have reasonable equity given how much is out there. I think I still prefer calling just because I don’t see them leading 2pr or sets here barely ever, and they also fold worse draws here a lot which sucks. Getting called when you’re losing and getting them to fold when you’re winning generally isn’t a profitable strategy apparently..

About as good as you can get it in preflop in PLO here. I like my play though because he’s a maniac.. Give him a chance to 4b whereas he might just flat if I full pot it and take a flop off, in which case everyone else is too and this isn’t a hand I want to see with 5 others in the pot with no money behind.

I’m pretty upset about this hand tbh. My thinking here was that if he c/c’s he has an OP most of the time, and I can definitely push him off that by the river, and I just basically leveled myself here thinking he was trying to rep something simlar to what I had, and then of course I have the blockers which induces me into weighing his range more heavily towards bluffs since he “never†has it since I have two queens. This is a good time to mention that the more PLO I play, the more I realize how blockers only truly matter in very specific scenarios. Me having blockers here doesn’t negate the fact that he’s tight UTG, probably isn’t going to c/c float me OOP with something that doesn’t draw to a straight, and then bet two streets as an all out bluff very ever. I don’t care if I have three queens in my hand; he’s just not doing this without the nuts. Not making folds like this kills my win rate.

Losing a lot of these lately.. These would be the ones that would be nice to run twice.. When you’re this deep and it’s a flip, it increases your variance a lot if you lose a few of these.

+1 Spewing is definitely way more fun than playing well

5. Repeat
Man, this is me

Even though I've never taken it from him, I'd recommend joining the next Tilter's Anonymous for sure. Hit me up over AIM, would love to chat about some of this stuff.
