Badminton FTW!
What’s Up Degens?
People Under The Stairs – Acid Raindrops
People Under The Stairs – Yo
Life has been pretty awesome lately, although the amount of poker playing has been relatively limited. I went back to CO for the X-Games and had a really good time. Even though I lived in CO for my entire life, I still hate the cold weather a lot, which is why I really appreciate being back in Vegas where it’s finally starting to warm up a little bit. Today it’s like 60 degrees or something, so after I write this post I think I’m going to hit the links for a bit to start tuning my game up for the summer.
This might be the first summer that I try to degen a bit on Golf. I used to telL a friend of mine that if you really wanted to strike it rich, you should become a huge bad ass at poker and Golf so you could hustle all the high stakes pros out here. Just nit it up in the poker games, pad their ego a bit, and then hustle them at Golf. I’ve seen videos of Negreanu and Ivey playing, and man they suck! Obviously they handicap it when they play legit players, but it’d still be fun even to play out here for a small amount. If anyone comes out here for the WSOP and wants to do some kind of prop bet with HU PLO and Golf, count me in :).
I’ve also started playing a bunch of Badminton outside. LV is perfect for it because it’s not windy very much, and since it barely rains you can be relatively certain of the conditions each day. If you’re a Badminton hater, I highly recommend going and trying it sometime against a player that likes to try to beat you. It’s a really good workout, and I enjoy it more than Tennis because the stoppage of play in Tennis gets old, and if you’re playing someone who’s really good or really bad it’s just not fun at all.
Before I talk a bit about poker, I want to share a funny story that happened a few nights ago. I was playing the 5/5 PLO at Venetian, and after a nice score I cashed out and was on my way out the door when I saw a friend of mine sitting at the 5/10NL tables. I stopped by to say what’s up, and he told me he’d moved to the table to take advantage of some guy who was apparently black out wasted and dumping chips. As I’m standing there, I start taking a video of this guy on my phone because he’s so wasted, and honestly it’s pretty amazing he hasn’t been kicked out yet. As I’m taking the video, he shouts to the table “I don’t care how much someone bets I’m calling it, even if it’s an all in pre-flop I don’t give a shit take my moneyâ€â€¦ No, I’m not being sarcastic…
So I of course take the only open seat there is, which is on his direct left. Very first hand, I’m dealt AKo. I open to 50, he min three-bets (hasn’t looked at his cards yet), BB overcalls, I make it 500 straight, drunk guy calls (still hasn’t looked at his cards), BB folds. I ship before the flop is dealt out, he calls before the flop is dealt (still hasn’t looked at his cards). I smile a bit when the door card is an Ace, and the board runs out something like AJxxx.. We turn over our cards, he has JJ so gg me.
Anyways, not a ton on the poker front, so I’ll just quickly post some hands from my last session. I’ll post the losers first.
This guy is absolutely spewing his nuts off. 90/65, 3b’ing 50%. Yummy

This is kind of an odd hand because we’re so deep. I could maybe fold the turn, but this is the same guy who was spewing so bad, although he wasn’t really c/r’ing flops light, he was just getting it in very light 100bb deep. I called the turn bc of implied odds, and occasionally I’m still good.

I think that’s all for now, but I’ve been writing a few really cool strategy pieces for my blog that I’d like to post later this week, so be on the lookout for that. I hope everyone is running well, and didn’t lose too much on the game last night!

John

Haha, badminton is really great fun! I have been playing it whole winter with my friend like twice in a week as it is too cold to do anything but skiing outside. It's so good workout at least if you are little bit worse than your opponent like I am. :D

Ya man, they have a Badminton League out here in Vegas that I'm going to get in to. It's super fun; doubles gets really intense too. It's funny because everyone thinks it's just a recreational game but there's this subculture of people who take it very seriously.. Like me! Hahahaha. Hope all is well man.. Hit me up on Skype sometime.
