Deep play

I’ve been playing at the .25/.50 deep/ante tables on full tilt. This plays more like 25NL, in terms of opponent skill, but the actual money being played with is the same as 100NL. I see people making really really awful pre-flop mistakes, all the time. These preflop mistakes leave my opponents ill-equipped to fight back against my tight range; I think I’m geting to play more pots in position than ever before, and because of the antes and stacks, I’m getting to do it in bigger pots with a relatively stronger range as well. Awesome.

Seat selection is really important at deep tables. A good LAG, or even a bad one, with position on you is a nightmare at 200bb stack depths. You basically can’t play your CO anywhere near as much as you’d like to. This is why I have been actively seeking the nitty regs at these tables and trying to get seats with them on my immediate left. It also gives me a steady income when they just give up their BB >80% of the time versus a minraise when it comes around unopened to me in the SB. I cannot begin to describe the difference this will make to your winrate at ante tables (Clue: BB is folding the chance to play a pot IP getting immediate pot odds of 18%).

I’d like to make a post with a bit more content regarding deep play. I’m currently editing about 3 hours of footage into a much shorter video, and I’ll be highlighting some of the typical mistakes as well as some of the more unique and interesting pots I’ve played. Hopefully I’ll get it done by the end of the week.

Here is a hand that won’t make the cut because sadly (?) villain didn’t buy in for 200bb; I feel like the hand pretty much played itself at 120bb deep, but at 200bb it should probably play out a lot differently (in fact, it probably wouldn’t, which is why the games are so good) :

Hero (BTN): $100.00
SB: $59.90
BB: $58.80

Pre Flop: ($1.05) Hero is BTN with J of hearts 9 of clubs
Hero raises to $1, SB calls $0.75, 1 fold

Flop: ($2.80) 9 of hearts 6 of hearts 9 of diamonds (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $2.50, SB raises to $9, Hero raises to $19.95, SB raises to $58.80 all in, Hero calls $38.85

Turn: ($120.40) J of spades (2 players – 1 is all in)

River: ($120.40) 5 of hearts (2 players – 1 is all in)

Final Pot: $120.40
Hero shows J of hearts 9 of clubs (a full house, Nines full of Jacks)
SB shows J of clubs J of diamonds (a full house, Jacks full of Nines)
SB wins $119.40
(Rake: $1.00)
