Weight Loss Update: April Goals

Hey guys,

As some of you may know I just completed my last week of college for the semester, and I’m on cloud 9! I am sad that it’s over for 6 months, because I really did open up and learn a ton of things. On the other hand the excitement I have for my life this summer is through the roof! I have some new goals to announce for April, which will help me kick the summer off right. First though I should touch on my weight loss.

I had a pretty solid week and was coming into Thursday at a significant loss. However with 95% of my school being completed, I went out with the boys. 6 pints a steak sandwich and half a pizza later I was pretty sure that I failed this week. It could have been even worse too but I declined to come into McDonalds at 1AM. To my surprise I didn’t retain all of the weight and still posted a decent loss at 288.4 or -1.2 pounds. I expect some of that to be lack of water from the night out drinking but I think I will make up for it this week.

On to the April goals! There are 2 main things that I want to do health wise this month. In poker I have some pretty solid goals set for volume so I think I will be motivated on that front. Health wise I cant say the same. I’m hoping to inject some excitement back into the process.  The first goal is sleep schedule. Ever since I started to play poker full time, my sleep schedule has been all over the place. I can stick to normalcy for a week or so, but that one night where I can’t sleep messes everything up. I usually am watching some sort of TV show on my laptop till 6 in the morning, and all of a sudden I become tired. I sleep till 2pm and thus the vicious cycle begins. Well I hate that part of my life, and I love to work in the mornings, so here is the goal for April. Wake up at 7AM 30 days in a row!

There is more to this goal though. I really want to dedicate myself to losing weight, and giving the 100-pound goal a real shot. Well the best time to start is now so I am going to walk 30 days in a row at 7AM. I plan to keep solid records to keep it fun, and really start to get in shape. These 2 goals are going to be mentally strenuous. I am going to have to stay healthy and get good sleep to complete them, however I know I can do it. Its going to be the best summer ever! Thanks for reading guys.

Cheers,

Jaime Staples

Just a few tips-

I would really make sure to get a lot of sleep if weight loss is your goal. Waking up at 7 could be a good idea, but I would definitely make sure you make up for it by going to bed at 10-11pm at the latest. I read somewhere that if you get under 7 hours of sleep your appetite goes up by 27% or something.

Also, enough with this walking bs. I mean to each his own but walking isn't really going to do shit. If I were you I would do some high intensity cardio like 4-5 times a week. Jumprope, kettlebells, elliptical, and running are all good ideas.

I cut down from like 190 to 150 a few years ago and I remember I would drink a shit ton of green tea which speeds up your metabolism and suppresses your appetite at the same time.

Just some tips, take them with a grain of salt. Good luck with your weight loss/poker goals and have a great summer!

Hey chuck thanks for the advice man!

Totally on the same page when it comes to sleep. I really need my sleep so i see myself going to bet between 9 and 11 every night for sure.

When it comes to exercise i still think walking is the best option for me at this moment. I can get a good sweat going by just walking for 30 minutes. I know it may sound pathetic to a lot of people but at 5,10 280 pounds i think it is a workout. Running for more then 30 seconds is not possible at the moment. Also I have had problems with back pain in the past. I expect to start with more heavy duty stuff July and August though. It is definitely in the plans.

Will try the green tea! I have had lipton diet green tea. Is that what your talking about or should i make my own.

Yeah man I mean walking is definitely better than nothing. As for green tea stay away from the plastic Lipton bottles with artificial sweeteners and shit, I can't imagine that stuff being good for you. I buy Lipton and Bigelow tea bags at the moment, neither of them taste particularly good but they definitely suppress appetite and speed up metabolism. Also the antioxidants in them are really good for you.
