I Say Nay Nay goes on a diet!

So, I'm going on a diet.

Although I've said many times in the past I was going on a diet, I've never actually gone on a diet. This time, though, I really am going on a diet. No, really. I really am going on a diet.

I will be 32 years old in July. I'm 5'11” and I weigh 305 lbs. I weighed 320 in January. Since then I've been cutting back on the soft drinks I consume. I was drinking 3 liters of Diet Pepsi a day, easy. I loooove Diet Pepsi. Both my parents are diabetics, so we always drank diet soft drinks. I actually prefer them over regular soft drinks. They aren't as bad for you as the regular soft drinks, but they're still bad for you. They erode your stomach, weaken your bones, dissolve tooth enamel, damage your kidneys and liver, and a bunch of other really bad things. Since January I've been drinking more water. Not a lot, but I've probably cut my soft drink consumption by one-third.

Since January I've lost 15 lbs. Now, I know that 15 lbs in five months is not a lot, but it's still encouraging. If my half-*** dieting helped me lose 3 lbs a month, how much weight could I lose if I really applied myself? 10, 15, 20 lbs a month?

Reasons I am going on a diet

1. My health. I have high blood pressure and cholesterol, and diabetes runs in my family. On top of that, I frequently experience back pain. Not enough to keep me down, just enough to be a pain in the ***.

2. I'm tired of being alone. Sure, I could probably get an average-looking fat chick, but I'd rather have a hot piece of ***. Those are hard to get when you're fat, and balding.

3. It's getting harder and harder to find clothing in regular stores, and big & tall clothing shops can get rather expensive.

Goals

1. My short-term goal is to lose 15 lbs in the first 3 weeks. This should more than make up for the weight I am sure to gain in Vegas the week after that. It could also motivate me to stick to my diet while in Vegas. 15 lbs in three weeks sounds like a lot, but it's easier to lose weight in the beginning. I do not expect to keep losing at that pace for very long.

2. In a few months I'd like to be fit enough to try P90X. I've seen the infomercials, and it looks awesome. I know you don't need to be in great shape to start P90X, but I'm in such bad shape that I'd probably hurt myself attempting many of the exercises.

3. Proper weight for a 32 year old man with a large frame is 180-185 lbs. Truth be told, be told, I'd be happy if I weighed 220 lbs. I'd be happy, but I wouldn't be complete, because my fourth goal requires I be in great shape.

4. I'd like to learn Krav Maga. Krav Maga is a hand-to-hand combat system used by the Israeli army. I don't really know much about it, but from I've read on it, mostly from the Splinter Cell novels, it sounds pretty kick-***. It's kinda like half martial art, half street fighting. I have no desire to beat on people, but I would like to be able to defend myself. Right now I'm a sitting duck. A big, fat, sitting duck. Again, if I were to attempt to learn Krav Maga in my current state I'd probably hurt myself.

Strategies for losing weight

- Drink fewer soft drinks, and more water.
- Eat less white bread.
- Eat a decent breakfast and lunch, so I'm less hungry at night.
- No eating after 7pm.
- Fast food once a week, only.
- Eat healthier snack food. Fruits and vegetables over chips or chocolate bars.
- More physical activity.

Although all the strategies are important, the first strategy is the most important. As long as I can remember I have been addicted to soft drinks. For my family, they were the main beverage at breakfast (yes, even breakfast), lunch and dinner. If I can kick my addiction to caffeinated soft drinks the rest will be a piece of cake.

Mmmmmm, cake.

Lucky to be a Canadian!

To pay for my trip to Vegas, I’ve cashed out most or part of my bankrolls from 4 sites I play, Full Tilt, Bodog, William Hill and Victory. With the exception of Bodog (who only pays out via couriered check), all my withdrawals were handled via Moneybookers. All three withdrawals were in my MB account in less than 36 hours. My Full Tilt withdrawal was actually in my MB account within an hour!

I feel for the American players. Since the UIGEA passed almost 4 years ago, it has become increasingly difficult to deposit and withdrawal from their poker accounts. Their money is safe (the UIGEA doesn’t target the players’ money, and sites like Full Tilt, PokerStars and UB won’t steal their money), but it’s gotta be frustrating, especially for the low stakes grinders who depend on regular withdrawals to pay the bills.

To all the US players to continue to play online, despite the declined deposits and withdrawal delays, I salute you. To those who are frustrated and discouraged by the UIGEA, hang in there. Or, as my grandfather would say, “hang’r tough”.

Attica! Attica!

Vegas, baby!

I’ve been thinking about going to Vegas this summer. My brother, who recently moved far, far away from will be going to play in a $1500 event at the WSOP, so I wanted to go rail him some, and of course, play a ton of poker myself. I really can’t afford to go, but what the heck. I can always tighten my belt after I get back.

When I go to Vegas I try to go as cheaply as possible. As long as I get there and have a roof over my head (on the Strip), I’m happy. With the help of Expedia.ca and VegasView.com, I found a return flight and room for around $500 ($370 total for a round-trip ticket from Toronto to Las Vegas on Delta, and $130 total for 5 nights at Bally’s). Sunday to Friday, to avoid the insane weekend rates.

That’s how I roll!

Wow, I'm bloggin'!

I’ve never blogged before, but I might as well give it a try, since it comes free with my Deuces Cracked account. I still think it’s ghey, but oh well. I’m making somewhat of an effort this year to be less of a hermit, and get out there. I have a Facebook page that I rarely visit, a twitter account (@hairbundy)that I update ever 3 weeks or so, and I’ve even uploaded a videos of my last trip to Vegas to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/habs798693). Also, having a blog gets me writing on a daily basis, which is good.

A little bit about me, and my game. I’m 31 years old, and live in Toronto, Canada. It’s a great city, but sucks if you like to play live poker. No casinos, and the underground clubs are stank. So, I do most of my playing online at Full Tilt Poker. I play there because they have the best online poker room, imo. I get rakeback, too, which doesn’t hurt. When I do play live it’s not for money. Once a week I play the Red Hot Poker Tour. The play can be terrible there, but it is fun, and gets me out of the house. It also gives me a chance to practice my live game. I have trouble concentrating and focusing on the game and the players.

My game right now is lacking direction. One minute I’m playing NL cash games, the next I’m vowing to stick to LHE, then I’m playing tourneys and sngs. Right now I’m playing the super turbo sngs on Full Tilt (300 chips or 10 big blinds to start). They are super fun, and super soft.

I’m playing the $2 sngs right now because I wanted to play a ton of them in hopes of actually getting good at them. I’ve been playing them for about 3 weeks now, and I’ve only managed to play 358 of them. According to Poker Tracker 3 I’m only up $13.30 playing the $2 super turbos. This could be wrong, though. PT3 prompts me to manually input tourney summaries, which I haven’t been doing. Even if the stats are correct, though, I feel I am getting better at them.

Current Full Tilt Poker bankroll: $385 (was at $535, but I just cashed out $150)
