Learning about protection a.k.a.Turning into a LAG maniac
Another interesting change lately came about as a result of watching
"Runninng the Streets" and a couple of subsequent conversations with
shuttle about stealing and protection betting. It's clear that these are both real weaknesses in my game. I
haven't been stealing enough and secondly I haven't been betting for
protection in situations where I have some equity. The combination of
these two factors has brought about a dramatic change to my style and
the upshot is that I'm playing a much LAGgier game, especially in
position, and I'm getting in position against weaker opponents with some well-disguised strong hands. It's interesting to see the effect this aggression has on
opponents, and I'm finding that they seem to go nuts a lot and donk off
all their chips with really marginal hands. The flipside is it requires
a lot of judgement from me to see where I am ahead, and inevitably
leads to me making mistakes.
It's still early days and I've got a lot to learn and refine about this approach, but learning from these mistakes is going to teach me to be a poker player :-)
