Money May All The Way plus All Degens Should Watch The Hustler
After my sort of online heater last week I took a break for the weekend to chill out and relax. I have found recently that I have been able to take off the weekends from online poker and do other things. Hang out with mates, go clubbing, go spend some time with my gf, play some basketball and also watch a few movies (On movies saw Iron Man over the week and was not impressed. To be honest I feel alseep in the movie theatre and woke up and found out my gf had fallen alseep also).
Anyway May got off to a really good start with my main man Money Mayweather completly destroying Shane Mosley. I am a massive boxing fan and put was not sure if he was going to back up all his talk on 24/7. Well he brought his A game and battled through adversity in round 2 to win. It sort of made me relate it to poker. Each time we log on we are like a boxer lacing up our gloves preparing for battle. We all have an inflated ego of ourselves and all think we can beat the game. And the one’s who stay at the top are like the Mayweathers who not only work on their game daily also make sure they bring their A games at all times and can adjust to adversity.
On a last note I watched the film the old school film the Hustler again over the weekend and draw so many simalarities to the mental aspect of Poker. For those who have not seen the movie its about a Pool player who thinks his the best in the country and goes after the best player there is out there. The first time he plays him he is up 18k but wants to completely crush the guy. So they keep playing and playing and drinking and drinking until he goes broke. The movie then goes on to look at how his life decends before he gets another shot.
The line that really got me is when he asks someone why he lost the reply is “that he beat himself rather than the other person beating himâ€. Poker is so mental. You can have all the moves, know all the plays, have all the bankroll and read all the books. But if you dont have that mental ablity to deal with yourself and develop character you will never be able to make it. (i know cos I dont have the mental character yet).
Highly recomend the film for anyone who wants to look at the mental aspects of their game.
