Before any of you analytical thinkers reply to this post with suggestions on how to fix my mindset, I wanna go ahead and clearly state that this post is meant to be funny - just me joking around guys :)

I've been keeping up with WSOP more now than prior years because I’m still not working
full time (I have a verbal offer though with my old company so it’s looking
good.) It’s funny because poker is the ONLY thing where I look at others’
success and feel jealous. I hate to admit it, but jealousy is the only way I
know how to describe the feeling I get in my stomach when I see somebody ship a
tourney – weird. It’s not like a HATER-type jealousy….I’m happy for them…just
wish it was me. Poker is an unscratched itch I guess because I feel like I can
play at a high level – even though the results didn’t work out - yet.

Anyway, Moorman1 is CRUSHING WSOP – so I’m having a
“Rounders” moment remembering a tourney I played with him last year.
“I’m
just gonna outplay the guy. I’m just gonna outplay this guy this hand.”

Here is the HH for your amusement. He was shoving REALLY deep
over any sign of weakness. It was a $50 Rebuy so I’m sure he was correct….I
guess. Since he’s  a celeb, I was paying way more attention to him than he
was paying attention to me. When I picked up AA UTG+1 I limped – obv
J
. Â So, being such a brilliant poker
player, why am I not crushing WSOP right now????? …lol…j/k I also have a SWEET HH where I pwned mement_mori .....until the River where he sucked out on me...I don't post bad beats though, because that's just silly :)~

Quick serious post:

I got the July issue of Bluff the other day. On page 76, Lee Jones wrote an article about how the community should tighten up and support each other after BF. I know we always have an extremely supportive community here @ DC - obv. He encourages the reader to take a minute to reach out to someone you know who was impacted by BF more than yourself. I've been impacted so much by quite a few different players so far so that'd be a TON of folks to connect with, but I sent an email to someone specific who I really respect....felt good....I hope it had a positive effect. Good stuff.

A little run-good irl?

Soooo, I've been looking for a full time job for like 9 months now. I had a VERY promising meeting with my old supervisor yesterday. The manager that was promoted into the spot that I left vacated has transferred to another department so it's very likely I'll get my old job back. This is TERRIFIC news because I didn't hate my job - my VP just didn't like me on a personal level. Fortunately, that guy was filtered out in the last merger. So to recap:

I left my job because my VP didn't like me.

Tried to play poker full time - unsuccessfully. ( I describe this as doing "non-profit" work :) )

Previously mentioned VP got pink slip.

I filed personal bankruptcy - reducing my bills to about 40% of what they were in the process.

My old position comes available and I can potentially go back and make the same salary as before.

It's like a 90% certainty that I'll get the job. If that happens I'll have a TON of extra money. I'm committing that some portion of my first check is going to KIVA - Buy-In 2 Giving

http://www.kiva.org/team/BuyInToGiving

Gogogogogogogogogoggoo!!!!

It's a cool feeling

I haven't played seriously in FOREVER and I'm really starting to crave playing poker. It's such a good feeling because I haven't felt that way in such a long time. I'm really looking forward to May 9th - the day I'm playing in 2 SCOOP events.

Of course, if I can get a stable, full time job I will be able to play beyond that, but it's REALLY tough. I think I'm going to get an offer working for my old company - pending a background check. The thing is, we'd been acquired by Windstream Communications and they have such a strict criteria on the background thing I may not be able to go back. That will suck. I ran some background checks on myself last year and nothing came up, but ya never know. I've never been convicted of anything, but this company won't hire you if it shows you've been CHARGED within the last 20 years....not convicted..CHARGED....that's so nuts, but it is what it is.Â

Anyway, I've been going thru some old HH and honestly, even though I wasn't perfect, the biggest factor was I was just running HORRIBLE on PokerStars....just, no freaken cards and then my premiums weren't holding up when I needed them to....

I can't wait to play for fun again....it's gonna be sweet!!!

It's been a while - summary of some random thoughts, updates, and the current state of Diggy

I have a few minutes, so I thought I'd hit a blog post real quick.

1) I haven't played any meaningful poker in a very long time. I've been thinking more about poker lately so I've "played" with some FPPs and tourney tickets I had, but I lose patience and really just don't have the pieces of life in place to take it seriously. It's all good though. Life is good.....poker just doesn't fit right now.

2) I've agreed to do some contract work (consulting) for this company that does Salesforce.com integrations for small businesses. I get paid on my billable hours, so it'll be kinda cool when I can finally get a project to work on.

3) Probably the biggest, coolest thing going on with me is that I went to my bankruptcy court this week. It went smoothly. It's SO FREAKEN COOL to have ZERO debt. We've streamlined our bills so that we live off of only my wife's income. When I'm working, I make about twice as much as she does so our financial situation is gonna be OUTSTANDING very shortly. I hope to be able to make some deposits and play poker at some point. The bankruptcy thing is HUGE because it'll start to normalize my view on money - I hope - which may help me enjoy playing again. A lot of times, folks would be critical of my BRM before, but they didn't really understand that I needed to make 5-6k per month playing poker and anything less than that basically had the same impact as $0 on my specific financial situation. In fact, being only slightly profitable would have been VERY -EV for me because it would have meant I would have to pay back some of my debt (which was significant) due to the rules of income of a bankruptcy. By going bust, I was able to file Chapter 7 which gives me a completely fresh start.

4) So, back in 2002 I had a little skin cancer...melanoma...bad stuff. It'd been clear for a long time so one of the ways I've been saving money is by not having medical insurance. Well, that gamble didn't quite work out because I found out the other day that I have a little basal cell carcinoma - which isn't the end of the world, but HAVE to get it taken off which is going to cost about $2k. So, it's not really running good, but it's not as bad as I could be running..lol. The dermatologist said it well the other day. She said that " you're never really cured of skin cancer. You're always in remission. " I hadn't really thought about it like that.

5) So, after I went BUSTO, I got pretty depressed. I'd basically just sleep and eat...and eat...and eat. Well, I put on like 40 lbs!!! I joined a gym and have been working out every day. it's crazy because I've always been pretty athletic, but WOW....with the extra weight and now that I'm 37 I freaken ache like every day. I'm sure it'll go away...but I'm VERY surprised how quickly I gained the weight and how it's impacting my body. CRAZY.

6) While I have been working out, I've been listening to Deuce Plays on my ipod. I could listen to Baluga Whale talk about poker for DAYS at a time. The guy is just SO easy to listen to.. I mean, I'm not even playing right now, but I could listen to him all day. I'm sure I'm not the only one....I'm a BIG fan.

7) I had a couple of SCOOP tickets in my PS account. I registered for 2 events on May 9th. I think I'm really looking forward to it. It's a weekday, so I should be able to limit my distractions and focus. We'll see what happens.

Make, decisions, F!@# Results.

Later

omg that sux - deleted my blog post

So, I just wrote this blog post talking about how I'm really, really bored with the thought of playing the 2.25s...and I accidentally deleted it before I posted it. I mean, some days, I'll just take a bunch of 2nd place because I don't wanna focus enough to pick my opponent apart HU. I guess the adhd is in full effect right now. Since I haven't worked, I haven't gone to the dr. to get my meds filled so, yeah, attention span is an issue right now..lol. On more than 1 occasion....like 3 times, I've just gotten bored with 5-6 tables going and just logged off and went to do something else because it's only like $12 and I figure I can make it up.. Not cool. Anyway, not playing great, but since I deleted the blog post I don't wanna retype the whole thing. Here are my results in STTs since I started playing again on 12/23:

12/23/10 - 1/6/11

Games: 365

ITM: 38.63%

1st: 50 2nd: 47 3rd: 44 - yuck

ROI: 3.45%

Profit: $28.60 Rakeback:$24.60

meh..I'm bored.

Key Points: Playing Hold Em as a Business - Rob Tucker

Playing Hold Em as a Business - Rob Tucker

I haven't read the book entirely yet, but doesn't seem like
anything special from going through it. It looks like the same old stuff
regurgitated. It could be, though, that
the reason it's the same old, same old is because it's a low variance, winning
style. This book is for full ring cash games, but he also has a book for SNGs.
Here is a summary of the "takeaways."

1.
Your job in cash games is to wait for a monster
hand to play a big pot! Avoid losing a lot of money with just one pair, which
often is a weak hand

2.
The Rule of Two and Four: With 2 cards to come,
multiply the number of outs by 4 to get your approximate % chance to improve.
With 1 card to come, multiply by 2.

3.
You will make the hands you've been waiting for
after the flop, and they can be stronger than holding AA preflop.

4.
You are often committed to investing your
remaining chips when you have already invested more than 1/3 of your live chip
stack in a pot.

5.
one pair is often a weak hand that will cause
you to lose a lot of money. Be willing to risk folding the best hand in a small
pot to avoid losing a big pot with a weak hand.

6.
Paying money just to look at the next card is
bad business because you almost never get a good price.

7.
The Minefield Effect: Just as a person who walks
deep into a minefield fears that a mine is due to explode in his face, so a
tight player fears playing a hand all the way to the river.

8.
Having position on good players discourages them
from trying to outplay you. It allows you to win almost all of your big pots
and win more of your small pots.

9.
Although calculated risks pay off, don't become
a reckless gambler. Balance your willingness to gamble with the correct degree
of risk to your chips and to your profit objective.

10.
Always avoid drawing to a straight or flush on a
paired board. You will lose a big pot if you make your hand and get trapped by
an opponent who makes a full house.

11.
When you are facing a big bet and a tough
decision in a big pot, folding is usually the right play if you are not sure
whether you are way ahead or way behind.

12.
A poor bluff often appears to have come out of
nowhere. A good bluff usually is set up on the flop.

13.
Don't let an opportunity to win a huge pot slip
by when the situation you've been patiently waiting for puts you in a highly
favorable position.

So Basically, I can't see me reading the whole thing because this isn't really anything that we haven't seen here @ DC. Although, there are more pages that discuss specific hands, I prefer Professional No Limit Hold Em - Flynn/Mehgta/Miller because it teaches you how to think a little more imo.Â

Ran pretty badly today. I didn't play too much because it just wasn't fun, but didn't have much else to do today. Tomorrow I'm going to try to quit running into KK so much.

12/27:

Games - 31

ROI - -43.23%

Profit - -$30.15

Un-Busto Challenge Update 12/24

I'm still trying to think of a way to let more people participate if they want. Google sites are easy to set up, but I wanted to have some type of dashboard page where everyone's graphs for games played, ROI, and profit would layer on top of each other. Competition is always a blast and I think lots of the tourney guys would play if we had more group games, but obv the UBC would be more about volume, discipline, accountability and learning.

Anyway, I was able to deposit $135 in my FTP account so I could get started knocking the rust off. I've been hitting the $2.25s on FTP. No serious volume. Ran like CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAP yesterday...just sick. Ran like gawd today....also sick. Stats look something like this:

12/23:

Games: 45

ROI: - 4%

PRofit: -$4.05

12/24

Games:19

ROI: +68.42%

Profit: $29.25

If any techie/website guys know an easy way we could manage to create a dashboad for tracking please hit me up.

STT Un-Busto Challenge

OK, so I wanted to participate in the 50k Challenge, but it got complicated for me since I only had money in my Carbon account - no HEM so no way to track and post results. Besides, I'm a push-monkey...I just like SNGs..so I wanted to play those instead of cash.

I read "Secrets of Sit n Gos" by Phil Shaw last year and it had a chart in there showing how a player could go from $200 to $100k in 5,012 STTs. I think that most everyone can agree that this isn't realistic in today's games, BUT I modified it to be hopefully more realistic figuring a 6% ROI (he calculated 15% ROI in most levels.) I'm hoping to be able to make a deposit into my PS account soon with Christmas and my birthday occurring over the next couple weeks ( Jan 2nd I'll be 37.) If I can think of a way to make it a larger contest, I'll post it on the tourney forum. At the very least, I'm hoping to grab Joey G and a few other guys for a small study group and we could all do it together.

Anyone reading this ( Jtx?) , please poke holes in my math if needed :)

unBusto Challenge

Oh yeah, I tried to keep a 60BI BR to keep it BRM responsible.

UPDATED 12/22: Created tabs for PS and FTP to be specific to each site and also lowered the expected ROI.

50k Micro Grind Challenge

I think this is the coolest idea (props to 1BYONE)Â Â and I'm completely STOKED! about it. If you don't know what it is, the thread is here:

http://www.deucescracked.com/forums/4-General-Discussion/284661--Official-DC-50K-hands-Ch

 Here are some random thoughts:

I'm going to keep track of my progress in my blog

I'm hoping it'll give me the motivation to start to really enjoy poker again

It's been said that the winner will probably be a person who shows no regard for BRM - that gives me quite an edge because I think I'm quite an expert and have a natural gift for disregarding BRM :)~

PROOF of my anti -BRM skillz: I signed up for this challenge with no idea how I'd get the initial $100 to participate. I had $11 in my FTP account and $28 in my Carbon Poker account. I played 2- 90man KOs - card dead. 1 $3 rebuy on FTP and my 99<QQ, no biggie- FTP account BUSTO. Â Â Â Â On Carbon I played a $2 Bounty Turbo (busted 14th for a min-cash + a few KOs) and a $11- $1,250 Guarantee Freezeout (busted 4th of 144 for $115) which puts my account balance on Carbon @ $135.52. Sweet!!! I have a dream!! :)Â

The 50k challenge is a cash game contest and I basically sux @ cash, but I'm excited. I've been thinking of giving PLO a shot so this may be the opportunity to do that.

I'll post a detailed plan later this weekend to outline and document my strategy

I'd like to see some of the Tourney players do something similar.

Poker with friends is fun

Here are the rules for the Challenge:** OFFICIAL RULES **

Rules
1. Something like 50k Micro-Grind Champion, 50K Micro Crusher, Micro Champ, ... Thanks for the DC guys, we all do appreciate your support !

Winner
The winner is the player who will make the most money and respected the challenge rules.

Just wanted to post something on my blog so I can put together a timeline later. In the past, the blog has been useful for that. The mind plays tricks on ya sometimes. Sometimes, you'll think you've been doing blah, blah, blah FOREVER...then, later you go back and it was like 2 weeks...lol.

I've logged a couple of games lately. I'm clearly burnt out, snake bitten, super tilted, and playing worse than I ever have. The answer is to stop playing when it's not fun ...so I don't think I'll play for a while after I log off today. I still love the thought of playing poker, but I'm just completely impatient and disinterested once the game starts.Â

I still struggle a little bit when people ask me why poker didn't work out for me. There are a lot of different factors and it's too complicated to explain to someone who doesn't care about poker. It occurred to me recently, though, that the answer is pretty simple:

I knew what to do, but I couldn't make myself do it. Â

Long Time, No Poker

It's been over a month since I've sat down with the intention of hammering out a session. I'm going to try to find some confidence, focus, and drive to at least play 10 SNGs. I haven't been able to finish 1 without losing interest in a while. Â We'll see how it goes. Â Â

Non-poker content

There really isn't much to say about poker. I'm so completely burnt out and snakebitten. The past few times I've felt like I wanted to play, I'd play for 10 minutes or so then as soon as I lose a big pot or something I lose interest and want to do something else. It's simply not fun - so  can't see me playing for a while. It's ll good though. I'm gonna hit up some PLO content after taking some time off to try to have fun again. At this point, I'm looking forward to getting a day job.

The day job search is interesting. OF course, I haven't been out there for a while, but it seems like the hot careers have shifted. I've basically been in networking and routing for 10 years. It seemed like it was never going to slow up, but now there are more opportunities in IT/Programming. It also gets a little weird looking for a job at my level when you don't have the exact requirements. Technology is technology, so as long as I'm the manager and not the guy hammering out the code I can get it done at a high level. Sometimes, the guy doing the interviewing doesn't understand that, though, so he wouldn't think I'm qualified....other times, the guy doing the interview knows that, but doesn't want a guy like me around because then all of a sudden they don't look so smart - which is silly. The other thing is that the common strategy when writing out a resume is to list accomplishments and achievements rather than duties, but I'm seeing that folks aren't so interested in that right now. They'd rather see duties and skills listed...then, when you get an interview you can explain all the accomplishments.

I plan to keep up wit the blog because I'm not done with poker. Looking forward to it being a hobby again though tbh.Â

Update/ All In Mag/ Etc.

Update:

Still looking for a day job. It still sucks.Â

All In Mag:

There is some good stuff in October's issue of All In. A Small review of Peak Performance Poker, an article by Vanessa about heads up play, and another little bit about her where they say that she's one of the most feared tourney players in the world of any gender - which is cool. I got real stoked, though, when I read the article saying how some companies' actions were indicating some legislation change for poker and maybe another boom. I think I read in the forums here that Harrah's was doing something online, but apparently in the past couple of months Google has invested like $400 million in a couple of companies that may allow them to  take advantage of a potential poker boom. Good stuff

Etc.

So, I've been playing a little bit while I look for a job. Â It's so hard not to be convinced that online poker is just RIGGED! :) Sometimes it just seems like ya just either run good or ya run bad and the best you can do is to prepare yourself so that if you're ever running good you don't waste the opportunity to win. I dunno. Maybe it's stupid to play so many SNGs where ya get it in preflop so much ...I mean, what difference does it make if you have the best 2 cards when it's a 5 card game?...or Maybe I just shove too much...meh. Â Â

Jason Mraz/ Results, In Case I Forgot

Jason Mraz:

We have a cool little venue here in Greenville to go to shows/events - The Peace Center. My wife and I went to see Jason Mraz Tuesday night. Some of his music isn't my thing. Other stuff I really, really like. It was probably the best show I've ever seen. Â Just really upbeat and positive. I felt GREAT when I left. He got some folks from the crowd on stage dancing and stuff. It was just really, really cool. The show was so good, I'm more of a fan now than I was before I went to the show. His lyrics are outstanding imo. Â He did a couple of songs, though, that I can't find on ITUNES or a CD or whatever and I loved them. I found them on youtube, but if anyone knows if they are on a CD and I can download them please lemme know.

What I Am Today    <----- Perfect "I'm on a downswing" song. I'm watching this vid and trying to figure out the chords on my guitar so I can play it. I taught myself to play guitar a few years ago using tabs. If any of you guys are guitar pros and can tab this out I'd appreciate it.Â

Momma Say

In Case I Forgot:

The day job search sucks. Gawd, it sucks. I really just want to play poker. If it takes too long, I can see me giving it another shot. I feel like I'm a pretty good player, but here are my results since June 2010 in case I forgot. A losing player can never have a big enough bankroll.

Day Job

So, started searching for my next day job. it really sucks because I can't  even think of a position or a company that would come close to being able to play poker as a primary income. It's not about the hours or flexibility or anything. I put in MANY more hours playing than I have at any job in the same timeframe.....Poker is just freaken cool...it's challenging...rewarding...it just sucks to be the crushee instead of the crusher. When my BR was @ 5k, losing the flips wasn't an issue....4k  not an issue.. - 3k - it's all good, just variance.....<2k though, losing those 70/30 flips got to be crushing.

I gave it a go, but in the end being part of the best training site, being coached by the best coaches, and giving it my best effort wasn't enough to help me crush the game. Â

My Biggest Leak - Free Coaching - Withdrawing Funds

My Biggest Leak:

I've thought for a while that my biggest leak is bankroll mgmnt. I'm thinking now, though, that it's not. It's focus/discipline. The days I lose the most are those days where I play 7-8 tables at a time. I do this because I try to run a few large MTTs on a monitor and keep my primary games on another. This sux! I'm stopping this immediately. It's unfortunate because I've identified a few MTTs that seem to always have some overlay an relatively soft fields, but I can't continue to do it because it's not good for my long-term goals.

Free Coaching

When I decided to quit my day job to make poker my primary income, I identified a desire to coach poker. I enjoy coaching/training people. It's why I've been in management for 15+ years. Â The thing is, though, is that due to some out-of-game leaks and mistakes I'm technically a losing player right now. Honestly, it won't take long at all for me to get back in the black once I implement more discipline and a stop-loss. Anyway, I've been kicking around this concept (and putting it off) for a little bit. I want to take 1 student - a complete noob - and show them what I know. As I do it, I'll document important concepts and ah-ha moments to help me organize a "training guide." I've got some other ideas on the specifics of the exact implementation that I think will be very beneficial for myself and the student. I had a Sales job one time where they believed that "if you can't give it away, you can't sell it." I feel that way also, Â so I'm going to do this for free for the first few students. Â

Withdrawing Funds

I read a Jennifear article about something...I think it was bankroll mgmnt. She mentioned in there a cycle that we can get into watching our poker accounts roller-coaster up and down if we never withdraw. It occurred to me this week that I'M THE PERSON SHE'S TALKING TO....lol. In my mind, I wanted to build my bankroll up to some ungodly amount and THEN start taking withdrawals - that's all wrong. I withdrew $350 from my Stars account yesterday and I feel GREAT! I think that taking periodic withdrawals is going to help me fix my big discipline leak. It feels awesome. I'm going to try taking a couple of small amounts each week. This way, hopefully I can just grow my bank account to some ungodly amount :)~ Â

I like to think I'm a person that adapts to change well, but .geez.. I'd set up a UB account in the past, but finally decided to make a deposit (mostly because they had a deposit bonus and they use ewalletexpress since I had $$ in my account there.) Anyway, YUCK!!...The UB interface is just kinda nasty I think. I can't imagine putting in any serious volume there. Doesn't seem like enough traffic anyway.

I've never done this before so I'll have to check to see what steps to take to ensure it's a safe transaction, but if anyone will trade UB$$ for FTP or Stars hit me up.
