Review: AMT Last Man Standing #7
Episode 7
Intro to ITM and Heads Up Play (Lots of hand review because specific situations make a LOT of difference.)
- Not focusing on conventional ITM scenarios.
- After the bubble bursts, there isn’t the same Bias Against confrontation.
- It’s difficult to play post flop with <25BB stack size.
- There are no golden rules when it’s not push/fold. Reads matter
- Reads matter. NOTE: Note from Mathematics of Poker book. Reads from hands that villains have shown to you are more valuable than theoretical reads. Make note any time they show you cards.
- Working your way through the posts on the forums is a good use of your studying time. Always start at the top of the post because buyin and structure of crucial factors.
- If tourney seems to be @ shorthanded play earlier than normal, tighten up because peeps are calling loose. (Start trashing some of those Kxs hands. Preferable play is to complete and play post flop.)
- Shoving with 4-flush is a good play in some situations because if they ever fold, it makes it profitable. 4 flush on flop is about 36% to hit by river when they call. Also consider check/calling if you have top/mid pair for value.
- Consider CBETs when opponents may fold – tight opponents fold more.
- If your goal is to make your opponent fold, do it with the smallest amount that will achieve the goal. You’ll need to consider player type and stack sizes.
- Listen for Timing Tells.
- Consider Effective Stack sizes.
- Normally, with 15BB stacks, you can’t defend your blind with 1 gap raggy hands.
HEADS UP - Heads up, mostly raise Preflop. Don’t limp and shoving over limpers is a good thing to consider.
- Be aware of ranges and try to steal with bets on scare cards.
- Learn and use Nash Equilibrium Charts for heads up play. (See SNGPT Tutorial.) Most people call tighter than equilibrium so you can loosen push ranges. If they are calling looser, tighten your pushing ranges.
- You get the most first place finishes (and make most money) by knowing math and equilibrium charts.
- If you are the big stack and you’re getting 2.5, 3, 4 to 1 you should call. It flips the Gap Concept. If you are the small stack, keep this in mind for your opponents calling range.
- Keep your image in mind when trying to estimate your Fold Equity.
