Review: AMT Last Man Standing #5
Video #5
Introduction To Calling Pushes – middle and late game.
- Calling pushes. Most opponents push too tight so don’t call too much early or middle when you have a manageable stack size.
- Impetus is valuable – consider benefits of pushing versus calling a push. Being first in the pot allows you control by being first in the hand.
- Calling 10BB pushes with Ax is generally not a profitable play. AMT doesn’t want to put too many generics on this topic, or any poker topic, but this is a guideline. You’ll most likely be a small favorite or behind. Don’t do this to your equity when you have a manageable stack size.
- Medium pairs maintain strong equity against many pushing ranges (sometimes stronger than ak/aq type hands.) A lot of hands that peeps push are connecting hands. Between 4-6 BB peeps could shove 76s. 76s isn’t much worse than a 60/40 against AK/AQ, but medium pairs are 80/20.
- Very situation dependent – it’s all about the blind/reads and range assessment/table dynamic and the STACKS.
- The presence of a short stack can significantly impact the profitability of a call – ESPECIALLY AROUND THE BUBBLE.
- Take note of the short stack and where you are in the tourney
- In the hud there is an option to filter by number of players at the table….good for knowing if they get aggressive near the bubble or ITM. 10-7, 6-5, 45,4,3 handed play in filters.
- When calling, don’t lie to yourself. If you don’t have a good read you should play it safe and fold.
The 2:1 pot odds thing WORKS because there aren’t many hands that are any worse than a 2:1 dog to any other hand – about 33% I think – see chart - Sometimes on the bubble, the big stack can keep peeps in, in order to take advantage of the bubble tightness.
- If a bigger or same size stack pushes you shouldn’t call. …but I it’s the short stack it’s normally +EV
