08/08/10 Update
So, yeah, I was completely pissed off this week because I was "running bad." Â Thursday (I think) Â after one my my typical 15-hour "refuse to quit while I'm stuck - honey get a pizza on the way home and slide a plate under the door because I'm not coming out" sessions, I was googling for some strategy info and came across this thread where a guy was talking about running bad and how it seemed to coincide with his Stellar Reward bonus - I think it was on 2+2. Obv, he started to get just a little flamed when this poster hit him with a constructive response - the kind you'd find on DC (gogoggo) :) Â Part of it was him explaining that you aren't really losing "90% of your coin flips" Â and that basically once you lose a little your confidence takes a big hit and you start to tighten up. You tighten up too much and stop getting it in when you should trying to counteract the run-bad that the poker site is putting on you. It just kinda made it click for me because I was "running bad", but I was definitely playing waaaay too tight in an effort to keep from getting sucked out on. Basically, I was playing bad and my confidence was shook..scared to death and scared to look ...shook..ain't no such thangs as half-way crooks...:)
It's really, really hard not to judge your play based on the fluctuation of your account balance. I gotta work on this, though, because I'm the worst. I think AMT said in LMS Episode 8 that he sometimes goes weeks without checking his balance...that's the nuts...i check mine 30 times per session....  that's no good.
Anyway, Friday morning I started my day with some cheap Super turbos to get back my "phuck you I'm gonna ship it and you will fold mf " attitude. I like my play a lot when I'm in that mindset. Â I feel like i've played well the past 2 days. I think that'll be my strategy any time I start to feel shook. Drop down a level, play some super turbos, and blast away.
Side Note: Took down a $12 180 on Stars for the first time...then took 2nd in another a little while later. I was telling my wife how the highs in poker are never as high as the lows are low. That was with like 12 peeps left in the tourney I won. When I won that last hand, I was freaking unbelievably stoked...it felt pretty phucken high....so maybe I was a little full of shit :)...lol
