December Goals: HotDiggy

Had to take the last couple of weeks in November away from poker and focus on the family. It’s hard for folks to understand when you spend time doing something for the knowledge and future benefit – and not being results oriented. All good though. I’m focused, driven, and committed. I feel like it’s a bit of a setback though because I’ve been almost completely focused on SNGs since I started really trying to learn in May and I think that I’m going to have to switch to cash games. I think I’ve been trying to learn to THINK about poker, though, so I’m a little scared – but that’s not the same as being afraid (for you Sister Hazel fans:))I hope the flexibility of cash games will help me balance my dedication to home and poker.

*CURRENT STATE OF MY GAME: *

  • I FINALLY got rakeback at Full Tilt!!! – “Leak” fixed!
    Bankroll:
  • PokerStars – $19.05 (I deposited $10. Margin = +$9.03)
  • Full Tilt – $107.46 (Margin = +$44.48)

That’s a winning month for the results-oriented ..:)..j/k. It is probably something to note that I got down to my last $2 in my Full Tilt account while multi-tabling 90-man KOs. I busted out on all but 1 – but took the last one down for $72 + bounties. Hot Diggy!! That’s a rush I don’t care if I ever feel again.

  • I’m still a bad player and will spend more time studying than playing.
  • I feel like I’m becoming less risk averse. It’s still a focus point though.

My short term goals for November were:

  • Get audio/video to synch properly for vids. – Done! I had to default my laptop to do it though.
  • * *Review notes for 3 series and post them. – this was too aggressive. IMPOSSIBLE to retain that much info. I posted 11 individual video notes though.
  • Review notes for 2 books and post them. – Again, too aggressive.

On both of those last 2 goals, I made a conscious choice to focus on the quality of my learning rather than hit the goal for the sake of hitting it.

December goals

  • Begin focus on cash games
  • Post notes for NLHE vid series
  • Make at least 3 member vids and post for feedback
  • Undetermined volume goal (I still need to study 60% and play 40%. i’m unsure how much I can play given the home situation. I’ll throw out: 3 days per week. 2 hours per day. 24 hours of playing time.)
  • Begin blog series detailing my experience wit poker so far. Maybe it’ll help someone else.

    My goals were to:

    1) Begin focus on cash games. DONE! Logged 13k hands since Dec 1st.

    2) Post notes for NLHE Vid Series: I've been spending most of my time reading NLHE books this month. I'm learning a TON, but making some big mistakes. Me and Joey G been getting together on Wednesday nights to talk shop. Good Stuff +EV. I'll probably post notes from From The Ground Up by end of the month.
    3) Make at least 3 member vids.:: My laptop won't record the vids while my PT3 is running, so it's tough, but I'll get this done.
    4) Volume Goal - 13k hands. I'm OK with that. I've gotten about $70 of my FTP bonus and $30 in RB.
    5) Blog Series::: Haven't done this, but will do it starting this weekend. I'm hitting a MAJOR wall in the sense that I've lost HUGE pots making plays that I think are "correct" even though my gut says NO !!...Starting this series may get me to remember something I've forgotten.

I've gone on a 14BI "downswing" if you can call it that. Is it a downswing when you are playing badly? I've lost some big pots where only 1 hand in villains range can beat my hand - and there he has it. At the same time, I need to learn to fold flushes on paired boards when passive players are raising - even if the flop is 554 or T77. When passive players raise - FOLD. I'm a little bummed, but not deterred at all. I'm focused, driven and dedicated. Just sux sometimes to think you have it locked down, then CRASH..phuuuuuck!!!

All good though, Blog tilt is much better than loose tilt :)
