VegasBob911>MoormanI- j/k obv

Before any of you analytical thinkers reply to this post with suggestions on how to fix my mindset, I wanna go ahead and clearly state that this post is meant to be funny - just me joking around guys  :)

I've been keeping up with WSOP more now than prior years because I’m still not working full time (I have a verbal offer though with my old company so it’s looking good.) It’s funny because poker is the ONLY thing where I look at others’ success and feel jealous. I hate to admit it, but jealousy is the only way I know how to describe the feeling I get in my stomach when I see somebody ship a tourney – weird. It’s not like a HATER-type jealousy….I’m happy for them…just wish it was me. Poker is an unscratched itch I guess because I feel like I can play at a high level – even though the results didn’t work out - yet.

Anyway, Moorman1 is CRUSHING WSOP – so I’m having a “Rounders” moment remembering a tourney I played with him last year.

“I’m just gonna outplay the guy. I’m just gonna outplay this guy this hand.”

Here is the HH for your amusement. He was shoving REALLY deep over any sign of weakness. It was a $50 Rebuy so I’m sure he was correct….I guess. Since he’s  a celeb, I was paying way more attention to him than he was paying attention to me. When I picked up AA UTG+1 I limped – obv

J

.  So, being such a brilliant poker player, why am I not crushing WSOP right now????? …lol…j/k I also have a SWEET HH where I pwned mement_mori .....until the River where he sucked out on me...I don't post bad beats though, because that's just silly :)~

Bluff article - Look After Each Other - Good Stuff

Quick serious post:

I got the July issue of Bluff the other day. On page 76, Lee Jones wrote an article about how the community should tighten up and support each other after BF. I know we always have an extremely supportive community here @ DC - obv. He encourages the reader to take a minute to reach out to someone you know who was impacted by BF more than yourself. I've been impacted so much by quite a few different players so far so that'd be a TON of folks to connect with, but I sent an email to someone specific who I really respect....felt good....I hope it had a positive effect. Good stuff.

A little run-good irl?

Soooo, I've been looking for a full time job for like 9 months now. I had a VERY promising meeting with my old supervisor yesterday. The manager that was promoted into the spot that I left vacated has transferred to another department so it's very likely I'll get my old job back. This is TERRIFIC news because I didn't hate my job - my VP just didn't like me on a personal level. Fortunately, that guy was filtered out in the last merger. So to recap:

  • I left my job because my VP didn't like me.
  • Tried to play poker full time - unsuccessfully. ( I describe this as doing "non-profit" work :) )
  • Previously mentioned VP got pink slip.
  • I filed personal bankruptcy - reducing my bills to about 40% of what they were in the process.
  • My old position comes available and I can potentially go back and make the same salary as before.
  • It's like a 90% certainty that I'll get the job. If that happens I'll have a TON of extra money. I'm committing that some portion of my first check is going to KIVA - Buy-In 2 Giving

It's a cool feeling

I haven't played seriously in FOREVER and I'm really starting to crave playing poker. It's such a good feeling because I haven't felt that way in such a long time. I'm really looking forward to May 9th - the day I'm playing in 2 SCOOP events.

Of course, if I can get a stable, full time job I will be able to play beyond that, but it's REALLY tough. I think I'm going to get an offer working for my old company - pending a background check. The thing is, we'd been acquired by Windstream Communications and they have such a strict criteria on the background thing I may not be able to go back. That will suck. I ran some background checks on myself last year and nothing came up, but ya never know. I've never been convicted of anything, but this company won't hire you if it shows you've been CHARGED within the last 20 years....not convicted..CHARGED....that's so nuts, but it is what it is.

Anyway, I've been going thru some old HH and honestly, even though I wasn't perfect, the biggest factor was I was just running HORRIBLE on PokerStars....just, no freaken cards and then my premiums weren't holding up when I needed them to....

I can't wait to play for fun again....it's gonna be sweet!!!

The League - Funniest Show Ever

I highly recommend this show!
If you've ever played Fantasy Football, you'll really appreciate it. I'd seen season 2 on Hulu, but Season 1 just came available on streaming Netflix........I've never, ever laughed out loud so much watching a TV show....freaken hilarious!!!

It's been a while - summary of some random thoughts, updates, and the current state of Diggy

I have a few minutes, so I thought I'd hit a blog post real quick.

1) I haven't played any meaningful poker in a very long time. I've been thinking more about poker lately so I've "played" with some FPPs and tourney tickets I had, but I lose patience and really just don't have the pieces of life in place to take it seriously. It's all good though. Life is good.....poker just doesn't fit right now.

2) I've agreed to do some contract work (consulting) for this company that does Salesforce.com integrations for small businesses. I get paid on my billable hours, so it'll be kinda cool when I can finally get a project to work on.

3) Probably the biggest, coolest thing going on with me is that I went to my bankruptcy court this week. It went smoothly. It's SO FREAKEN COOL to have ZERO debt. We've streamlined our bills so that we live off of only my wife's income. When I'm working, I make about twice as much as she does so our financial situation is gonna be OUTSTANDING very shortly. I hope to be able to make some deposits and play poker at some point.  The bankruptcy thing is HUGE because it'll start to normalize my view on money - I hope - which may help me enjoy playing again. A lot of times, folks would be critical of my BRM before, but they didn't really understand that I needed to make 5-6k per month playing poker and anything less than that basically had the same impact as $0 on my specific financial situation. In fact, being only slightly profitable would have been VERY -EV for me because it would have meant I would have to pay back some of my debt (which was significant) due to the rules of income of a bankruptcy. By going bust, I was able to file Chapter 7 which gives me a completely fresh start.

4) So, back in 2002 I had a little skin cancer...melanoma...bad stuff. It'd been clear for a long time so one of the ways I've been saving money is by not having medical insurance. Well, that gamble didn't quite work out because I found out the other day that I have a little basal cell carcinoma - which isn't the end of the world, but  HAVE to get it taken off which is going to cost about $2k. So, it's not really running good, but it's not as bad as I could be running..lol. The dermatologist said it well the other day. She said that " you're never really cured of skin cancer. You're always in remission. "  I hadn't really thought about it like that.

5) So, after I went BUSTO, I got pretty depressed. I'd basically just sleep and eat...and eat...and eat. Well, I put on like 40 lbs!!!  I joined a gym and have been working out every day.  it's crazy because I've always been pretty athletic, but WOW....with the extra weight and now that I'm 37 I freaken ache like every day. I'm sure it'll go away...but I'm VERY surprised how quickly I gained the weight and how it's impacting my body. CRAZY.

6) While I have been working out, I've been listening to Deuce Plays on my ipod. I could listen to Baluga Whale talk about poker for DAYS at a time. The guy is just SO easy to listen to.. I mean, I'm not even playing right now, but I could listen to him all day.  I'm sure I'm not the only one....I'm a BIG fan.

7) I had a couple of SCOOP tickets in my PS account. I registered for 2 events on May 9th. I think I'm really looking forward to it. It's a weekday, so I should be able to limit my distractions and focus. We'll see what happens.

Make, decisions, F!@# Results.

omg that sux - deleted my blog post

So, I just wrote this blog post talking about how I'm really, really bored with the thought of playing the 2.25s...and I accidentally deleted it before I posted it.  I mean, some days, I'll just take a bunch of 2nd place because I don't wanna focus enough to pick my opponent apart HU. I guess the adhd is in full effect right now. Since I haven't worked, I haven't gone to the dr. to get my meds filled so, yeah, attention span is an issue right now..lol. On more than 1 occasion....like 3 times, I've just gotten bored with 5-6 tables going and just logged off and went to do something else because it's only like $12 and I figure I can make it up.. Not cool. Anyway, not playing great, but since I deleted the blog post I don't wanna retype the whole thing. Here are my results in STTs since I started playing again on 12/23:

12/23/10 - 1/6/11

Games: 365

ITM: 38.63%

1st: 50   2nd: 47   3rd: 44 - yuck

ROI: 3.45%

Profit: $28.60    Rakeback:$24.60

meh..I'm bored.

Key Points: Playing Hold Em as a Business - Rob Tucker

Playing Hold Em as a Business - Rob Tucker

I haven't read the book entirely yet, but doesn't seem like anything special from going through it. It looks like the same old stuff regurgitated.  It could be, though, that the reason it's the same old, same old is because it's a low variance, winning style. This book is for full ring cash games, but he also has a book for SNGs. Here is a summary of the "takeaways."

  1. 1.       Your job in cash games is to wait for a monster hand to play a big pot! Avoid losing a lot of money with just one pair, which often is a weak hand
  2. 2.       The Rule of Two and Four: With 2 cards to come, multiply the number of outs by 4 to get your approximate % chance to improve. With 1 card to come, multiply by 2.
  3. 3.       You will make the hands you've been waiting for after the flop, and they can be stronger than holding AA preflop.
  4. 4.       You are often committed to investing your remaining chips when you have already invested more than 1/3 of your live chip stack in a pot.
  5. 5.       one pair is often a weak hand that will cause you to lose a lot of money. Be willing to risk folding the best hand in a small pot to avoid losing a big pot with a weak hand.
  6. 6.       Paying money just to look at the next card is bad business because you almost never get a good price.
  7. 7.       The Minefield Effect: Just as a person who walks deep into a minefield fears that a mine is due to explode in his face, so a tight player fears playing a hand all the way to the river.
  8. 8.       Having position on good players discourages them from trying to outplay you. It allows you to win almost all of your big pots and win more of your small pots.
  9. 9.       Although calculated risks pay off, don't become a reckless gambler. Balance your willingness to gamble with the correct degree of risk to your chips and to your profit objective.
  10. 10.   Always avoid drawing to a straight or flush on a paired board. You will lose a big pot if you make your hand and get trapped by an opponent who makes a full house.
  11. 11.   When you are facing a big bet and a tough decision in a big pot, folding is usually the right play if you are not sure whether you are way ahead or way behind.
  12. 12.   A poor bluff often appears to have come out of nowhere. A good bluff usually is set up on the flop.
  13. 13.   Don't let an opportunity to win a huge pot slip by when the situation you've been patiently waiting for puts you in a highly favorable position.

So Basically, I can't see me reading the whole thing because this isn't really anything that we haven't seen here @ DC. Although, there are more pages that discuss specific hands, I prefer Professional No Limit Hold Em - Flynn/Mehgta/Miller because it teaches you how to think a little more imo.
