Busted from the $1k HU event at the Horseshoe + more live poker lulz

After arriving at the Shoe, I immediately headed for the bathroom and within 5 mins of my venture I was reminded of why I love live poker so much.

So I’m in the bathroom and this guy and his friend walk in. The guy starts telling his buddy a story about PLO and says, “So I had [Xs] [Xd] [Xh] [Xs] and [9d]”. His buddy interupts him and says “Uh… that’s 5 cards”. The guy pauses for a second, then says “ok, take out the [9d]” and continues on with his story as if its believable at all.

I unfortunately busted in round one of the HU tournament on the most standard hand ever from my end, but still received a nice little lecture. It never seizes to amaze me how meat-headed these guys are.

Cliffnotes of the HU event:

I drew a middle-aged guy first round. He told me had a normal job etc, so I was happy about that. The first hour or so we were really deep and I was just trying to figure out what the hell he was doing. He was surprisingly 3-betting me a lot and c/r’ing crap like middle and bottom pair to “find out where he was at”.

About 2 hours in I had chipped back up and had a smallish chiplead. He was definitely tilting.

I picked up [Kc][Kd] on the button, effective stacks are about 60 bb’s, he 3-bets again. I hadn’t been playing back at his 3-bets really at all, for obvious reasons, so given that we didn’t have any kind of 4-bet dynamic going on, I decided to flat (cause I’m sick nasty like that).

Flop is [Js] [5h] [4d]r, and he bombs close to pot. Obvious call.

Turn [2s]s, he checks, I bet 3500 and he jams for ~5k more. Not super excited but its definitely a call given the amount of value hands I’m ahead of and how much of my stack I’d put in.

He shows pocket 2’s and then starts telling me how big of a mistake I made by not raising the flop. I think he would have had an easier time convincing me that the world is flat.

lol live poker. Different world, indeed.
