The hard work begins (and should have begun already)

Yesterday I played nearly 4k hands which is a lot for me. For 3.5k of those hands I played really good poker and for 500 of them I did not.

It was pretty tilting to have a +12 buy in days turn to a +6 buy in day in a matter of of a few hands. Two buy ins were flips but two were bad play. This needs to be removed from my game. I make too many hero calls. Sometimes they are necessary but other times they simply are not.

It’s quite annoying as I feel I am close to being able to play long sessions with my A game in tact. To be successful at 200nl and above I must iron out wrinkles and be more disciplined. I’m a decent player when I play well so I must aim to play this as much as possible.

This month has been an exercise in control. I’ve been pretty much break-even for 15k hands but it’s fine. I’m still winning at roughly 3BB/100 and have a lot to come in RB and bonuses. I’ve already played 30k hands and hopefully will put in another 15k or so by the end of the month. If I hit 45k by 31st May I am going to go to the International Club and play a live tourney for a bit of a break and laugh. that’s only if I hit 45k though….

ps – I’m also on Twitter now. Really don’t know why but thought I may as well, it’s fun to follow people. Add me! @Grec0_

A proper update

It’s been a while since I posted and I think we’re due a full update. Things on the whole are going really well and I must admit that I’m having a great time playing full time.

It’s been a bit broken up since I finished work. I stopped Mid March so didn’t get going until the second half of the month and then went on holiday so up until this month I’ve probably only played for about 5 weeks and put in 70k hands total for March and April. I’ve got a full month in May and am looking for about 50k hands, more if possible but 50k min.

As I’m not withdrawing any of my roll I rely on my RB for a wage so volume is pretty important to me. The last couple of months I’ve taken home £1k each month which is £200 less than work but I’ve no doubt spent less so it’s all good. Besides this month should be more with a better VIP level so hopefully be nearer a £2k wage.

With regards to actual results they’ve been great. I thought my game was pretty good up to this point but I’m learning all the time still and I’ve changed a few things which I’m really happy about. Below are stats and graph from when I turned ‘pro’. I’ve used USD for you all as I imagine it’s easier

As you can see things are really well and my BR is a very healthy £12.5k / $18.7k

This will prob be my last month grinding 100nl full time, I played a bit of 200nl last month and it went well but I just want to get another solid month under me before moving up.

I’d like to withdraw some cash over and beyond the RB this month to pay off some bills so that may slow things down but other than that I’m really happy and enjoying the life style.

On a sour note, Chelsea won the Premiership and will probably win the FA Cup too. Oh well.

Strange Day

Everything has been going so well but I woke up today and just felt awful. Couldn’t clear my head and am only now feeling ok. This is 10pm and it’s not good. I want to try and play 15k hands this week so need to get my grind on!! Tuesday thru to Friday I will be playing hard core. Hopefully my results will not suffer – I’ll post a monthly graph on Saturday morning. Have a great week people.

First few weeks fulltime

Well, the job has finally come to an end and I am playing full time. It feels good and I’m really enjoying it. Relatively no stress and while results are not amazing, I’m winning so can’t complain.

Even though I’ve been off work since 11 March I’ve only really been able to play for 2 weeks as I was away the back end of the month. I also had to change sites as my deal on Noble got pulled so that took some time. I’m currently trying to put in around 15k hands week to week and 60k a month. This month I had a week off so going to play for 3 weeks and attempting to get 45k hands which would be the most ever for me. It’s very doable and I will do it!

What I have realised in the short time I have been playing is the need for routine. I was trying to get up at 9 and play my first session by noon but I realised that it’s kind of pointless.

The games don’t get going until about 2/3pm so why get up so early? What I do now is get up about 10, have breakfast. Chill out, read and then go for a run. Shower and start playing about 2pm. I’ll play till 5pm and then I’ll have another session about 7 until 9 or 10. I then chill out with my housemates, play a bit of COD watvch football etc and then gear up for one final session about 11 for another hour or 2. I can then sleep about 2 and get my 8 hours for 10 again. It works for me and I’ve got this great app for the iphone that acts as an alarm and wakes me up according to my body clock and sleep movement.

So overall things are going well and I’m happy, a lot happier than I was at work I just need to put in the hours and make the money!!!!!

The monthly post

Well, I haven’t posted in a while. Sorry.

Been very busy with work as I’m finishing up on Friday, really can’t wait to get out of here and start playing full time.

Results have been good the lsat month or so and am going in to next week very positive about my game. I am looking forward to playing 3k hands a day. Think I am going to play 3 2 hour sessions and take decent breaks in between. That should be less intensive and would easlily allow me to play 15k a week and 60k a month.

Still playing 100nl now but mix in the £ and euro tables so the winrates is quite high and think I can put in some decent months and get up to 200nl very soon. By May for sure.

I’ll keep this updated now on a more regular basis and will post graphs and maybe hands. I’ll try and keep it brief and interesting.

As yet I’m aware that it is far from those two things at the moment…

Adapting

So basically I’ve realised that iPoker is a different beast to Prima. Luckily I’ve discovered I can slay both, they just require different weapons.

iPoker is, to my mind anyway, very nitty. I was not expecting this but once I caught on to this I began to see how very profitable it can be. I had a good weekend and played about 5k hands for $700. I’m going to look forward to putting in more hours there, esp with the sweet RB deal I have.

Very confident that my risk of ruin is low and that I can earn decent money at 100nl and 200nl fairly easily. Fingers crossed by the end of the year I’ll be playing at least 2/4 and hopefully taking shots at 3/6.

Not sure how to paste pics here (found out how, ldo) but when I do I’ll post monthly graphs and try and keep you up to date on things. I’m hoping that they’ll be good updates!

gd luck

Bloody iPoker

Man I run bad/play bad there. I have moved most of my roll there now and really need to start adapting to the players. They seem to play much much more aggro and tight. I think I must game select better in future and really must try and stop spewing.

This is important as I am obviously playing for a living next month and can’t afford to mess about with my roll.

Going to reduce the tables to 4 for a while and grind them out and see if that helps, looked over my hands from today and did spew 2 off but lost a 170bb pot with 2 pair against nut flush draw so I dunno.

Roll is currently at £5k ($7800) so I have plenty but would ideally like to be near $10k so I have 100 buy ins for 100nl.

Grinding tomorrow and most probably all day Monday and will also implement a 3 buy in and 1.5 hour session limit to see if that helps.

February and looking towards March

Life is looking good. I have until March 11 and then my job is done. Really looking forward to that and the freedom I will get. I have been sensible with my money and have some savings in the bank to tide me over for a while even if things go wrong with poker.

I’m pretty confident however this won’t happen. I’m playing well again nad have my confidence back after a pretty shocking December.

Volume was really low in Jan, only managed about 18k hands but still made 1,800 euros which is more than work right now. That’s not with rake and rake race included.

I am aiming for at least 60k hands in March so fingers crossed I’ll make it and make a tidy profit.

with this in mind I am trying to up the volume in February to about 25K if possible and then really grind it out in March. I’m going to head back over to iPoker for this too.

There are more games and I get a 50% rb deal too. I’ll post again this month but will most likely post every other day in March as part of a grinding routine.

Good luck all

The grind is over, now on to the grind

Well, following on from my last blog I have now quit my job. I still have to work out my notice period of two months but I’ve done it, it’s over and I am looking forward to moving on.

As mentioned before I was not enjoying it and I want to take a break, play for a bit and enjoy the summer and probably head back to working in September or so. Unless I start to earn a decent amount of money I can only imagine that I will be playing short term, although I am of course determined to make the most of it.

I will set myself goals to play at least 3k hands a day for 5 days a week. This is about 60k a month and anything over that will be a bonus.

Hopefully I can do it and keep a level of play going that is winning. I know I can make money playing 100nl and 200nl it’s just a matter of how much and how many hands I am able to put in.
