playing a game for a living

Yesterday I woke up in an incredible mood. I started playing poker, and things went amazing. I was up 1000+ for most of the day. Then, at the end of the day, I lost a sick 800bb pot that tilted me a lil bit. As soon as this happened, I instantly sat out and quit playing because I knew I wasn’t going to be playing optimally the rest of the night. But I still ended up 600 bux on the day.

Today I’m gonna buy into the 750,000 guarantee with the over abundance of full tilt points I have. I make like 20,000 FTPs a week playing rush poker, and don’t really have anything to do with them. Buying into this tourney won’t ding my MGR at all, and theres always the small chance that I win, scoring over 100,000 dollars, and that would be unreal. I could move out to Cali much sooner than expected.

I’ll post my monthly results after todays session. I’m looking at about 150,000 hands logged this month, about 10,000 hands short of what I was shooting for. But thats quite alright. It was a shorter month than usual, only 28 days, and my game has improved drastically over the past week since I started this blog. I’m up around 6000 dollars this month as of right now, about 3000 from playing, and 3000 from rakeback, rake races, and bonuses.

I love playing poker. Its an incredible job. Heres why. I don’t have to answer to anyone. I’m my own boss, and I love this. Also, I play A GAME and make more money doing so than most people making working their asses off at some job. Theres people who say “how can you possibly enjoy gambling for a living”. In response to that, I could say something like whats your favorite game. Monopoly you say? How would you to like to play that, get paid vast amounts of money for it, and not have to work a day of your life. Well thats what poker is for me. And, the intellectual challenge of it is amazing. I get to use my brain to its full capacity every day, navigating through different situations and coming up with solutions that will net me the most expected value. Sometimes I make mistakes, but I am able to learn from them, and better myself through them. I get to use my critical thinking and analytic skillz all the time. Its great. And theres a whole community of people out there who also play this game, and I can get advice from. I can also live ANYWHERE I WANT, since I play online. San diego FTW. Nice weather makes me happy, and soon I’ll be having nice weather every day. And be able to run on the beach. And meet a bunch of new people. It will be great.

This month I ran a bit under where I want to be, but it was actually a great success. I drastically improved my 6max game, and started this blog which allows me to get my thoughts out. I have a feeling I’ll be able to make 8000+ dollars next month, and move up to 1/2 rush poker pretty soon. I think I can be making 16,000 dollars a month later on this year, if I can successfully grind 1/2 rush poker. And then I want to start grinding midstakes – 2/4 and 3/6. That will be very challenging, and allow me to work to my brain to its fullest capacity. Also, once I get a new computer, I’m planning on getting another 46" TV, so I can output everything to 2 46" tvs. Then, I can fire up my 4 tables of rush poker on one screen, and fire up 4-8 1/2, 2/4, 3/6, 5/10 heads up tables on my other screen, and wait for phish to sit down. Beat some phish for 6+ptBB at those stakes will be an added bonus to my rush poker winnings. Phish are sooooo easy to beat headsup, and very low variance. Don’t really have room to stick heads up tables right now, so it will be very nice to get a new computer with dual HDMI output.

Well I’m gonna go get some coffee, then start my grind up again. The 750,000 guarantee starts at 5:00, and I’m just gonna play that while playing rush poker. Hopefully I’ll score big.

6k month is not bad at all for small stakes - pretty epic volume I can never even get 100k hands in :( I agree about playing poker for living, even small stakes pros can make as much or more as many college graduates if they have the proper bankroll and attitude. You sound like you have a really good plan I'll try to remember to check this blog!

Rush poker is suuuuuch a good way to get epic volume of hands, while still being able to think in detail about every situation while not having to worry about a bunch of other tables. Hell, you can even sit out on all your other tables if theres nothing going on and you really need to think about something. Rarely if ever am i stuck in more than 2 postflop situations at the asame time. I used to 12 table. That sucked. This is a godsend. I also love being overrolled with 200+ buyins, relieves tilt a great deal. And lets me log epic long sessions because losing 5+ buyins is no big deal . Bankroll managment is so huge in poker. yup, things are going pretty well, goood luck to you at the tables!
