I can't believe it!!

So, after working on my game over the past 7 months playing full time online poker, put in over 1 million hands...I've finally had the best month this month!!! It's been a long grind, lots of hours, and stress the first 4 months pretty much breaking even, slightly losing, or barely winning. The fifth month, I won 20 bi's, sixth month broke even, and this month up 40BI's. More than the supernova bonus I accumulate every month. Good Sign indeed!!!

I've stepped up my game, I mean really stepped up my game over the past 3 months. It's been a long process, but I think I have a pretty good idea of the game, and I'm only improving now learning new things as I go.  Depending on fpps was to stressful because it was frustrating not winning. I'm really dived into full ring poker as a result at 50NL and have to say, you can make a pretty decent income at 50NL. Hopefully I can moved back up to 100NL soon...only when I'm ready for it.

Good Lucky on the Journey!!

As far as results since I've moved back to full ring, hopefully I can keep it up:

When we get raised or check/raised?

So, over the past few weeks, I’ve been paying a lot more attention to pots and hands when we get check raised or raised when we make a bet.

If I folded every time I got raised or c/r…I think I would be saving a ton of money. The thing is when you have an over pair to the board or tptk and sometimes even two pair, we have to play that guessing game against our opponents. Does he have draw, a set, complete air,etc etc. If I call this flop raise, what’s my plan on turn if he fires again?

Also, if we think we are getting it in with a combo draw, we sometimes are still flipping or have a slight edge. But I really think in the lower games 100NL and down, we run into bigger hands most of the time and will run into sets, 2pairs, sometimes straights, etc.

We sometimes just look at our hand and see how strong it is and at the top of our range that we overlook what could be the inevitable. Have you ever second thought that you opponent probably has a set here, but we get it in anyways.

So where am I going with this? Well, I think that we really need to find a disciplined fold a big percentage of the time. Can we get exploited if we do this? Of course, but go through your poker tracker or holdem manager stats and look at pots where you have been c/r or raised, I think you’ll find more big hands than bluffs, especially against good players or regs. Of course this is all player dependent and if there is a bad player at the table, I don’t really think twice about getting it in. Sometimes we win, most of the time we lose, and sometimes but very rarely will we be behind and suck out with our 2 outer.

I hope this sparks some discussion and make you think about the game more and hopefully make you a lot more money or save money. Maybe you shouldn’t have folded, or maybe you should have.

The NY life!!!

So, i’ve decided to go back to NL Full Ring are start from the ground up again. After a terrible 2 months at NL 6max both 50NL and 100NL, i’m going to go back to 50NL full ring where I started.

Since I have moved to New York, I feel my game is gone way down. I don’t know why. I was crushing 50NL 6max for over 6 months and the moment I moved up to 100NL and got crushed, my game hasn’t came back. When I moved back to 50NL 6max, I have as well gotten beaten. These past 2 months, the downswings have been rough.

I noticed that there seems to be a lot more regs that I’m playing against at 50NL and the games have been a lot tougher lately. Stealing and 3betting have been a lot tougher and the regs are doing it a lot more light.

My goals were to start at full ring, move to 6max, and eventually HU. I want to crush all the games.

Luckily, I’ve been over rolled for the limits I’ve been playing and after all the downswings, I can still play 50NL very comfortably. The supernova 1500 and 4000 bonuses are great and finally have received my first $1500 bonus. I have put that money away in my savings as I will be doing for all bonuses I receive through stars supernova program.

I’ve also been playing on full tilt and tried that rush poker game. Seems like a lot of fun and up a buyin and a 1/2 in an hour period. Very cool and might have to play more.

Life in NY is nice. All the same except for the snow, extreme cold, and my friends back in Cali. I was a musician over the past 8 years and have missed playing with my bandmates. I also miss hanging out with some of my poker buddies.

I’ve been writing some music lately and hope to put it on record sometime soon if my band mate greg will come out to NY. We’ve put out 2 albums and have one more album to put out. Acoustic is something new that we are going to do.

Well I think, i’m just rambling on. Time to put in more hours!!!!

Best of luck on your journey

Bringing in the new year not so good

So, bringing in the new year hasn’t gone as well as I thought for poker. I started off really really well the first week n a half, but since then I done terrible.

I’ve been trying to manage my time but really found it really tough trying to play quality poker. Since I hit supernova last year, playing as many hands is my primary goal. The time I do have, i just fire up a ton of tables (around 18) and is probably the worse decision I could have done. Being a father takes up a ton of time and having my two babies now almost 5 months old are time consuming but not a lot of work. They are really great and all I want to do is spend time with them and take care of them. When I do have that spare hour when they are sleeping or late at night, I fire up tables and really just go on autopilot.

I’ve toned it down to about 8 tables and max 12 tables and still have done pretty poorly. I’ve been watching a lot more vids. Some from DC and some from Leggo. As a multitabler, what is the best optimal strategy? Lag or Tag? I switch between the two quite a bit but really feel lagging it up is the best way to go. I think my problem when I’m playing is I don’t believe anyone has a hand and when I get check/raised, I pay off and they have the nuts.

I’ve been going through my poker tracker and noticed quite a few leaks that I’m gonna try and work on when I play.

The fpp’s that turn into cash is nice to make but not what I want to do for too much longer. I’m trying a lot to get better and hopefully move up again. I think I’m going to get a coach sometime soon when I move back up to 100NL.

best of luck on the journey!!

Onwards to 2010

So a lot has happened since my last post which I have no idea what I wrote, lol.

Well, I have officially moved from southern California to upstate New York. Fulton,NY to be exact. Where the hell is Fulton you ask? It is near Syracuse,NY. About 20 minutes away. Why the heck did I move here you ask? My wifes whole family lives here and we just had two beautiful identical twin girls that are now almost 4 months old. She wanted to be close to family, and I didn’t have any family in Cali, so we picked up our house, four dogs, and drove cross country this past November.

I have to say, its beautiful and a little different up here. The closest casino is Turning Stone. I went the other night and visited the poker room and all the really have daily is 2/4 limit and 1/2 no limit. They have a 2/5 no limit game, but only one table. I was really looking to play maybe 4/8-8/16 limit, but they never have it going said the poker room manager. The biggest limit game the spread on weekends is 3/6 = (, oh well, I guess I’ll have to stick to 1/2 NL if i’m going to play live.

My poker journey has been going well….ok I guess. On a great note, I’ve finally achieved supernova on Stars this month which is great!! On a bad note, I’ve had my worst month online this month as well. I decided to move up to 100NL 6max and pretty much got murdered. Back down to 50NL 6max. I’ve decided to switch between 2/4 6max limit and 50NL 6max mixed with 50NL full ring. Changing games I find is working well for me and I don’t get tilted as much and keeps my mind fresh and not on auto pilot. I want to maximize my time collecting fpp’s and still achieve a pretty decent win rate for 2010. Saturdays are great and spend a majority of my time playing the free 75K and 100fpp 30K pokerstar tournaments. And on the last saturday, they offere a 100K free roll. I’m playing either 6-8 tables of 6max limit or 10-12 tables of 6max NL for the time being. If I decide to play more, I’ll play about 10 tables of 6max NL and open up 4-5 fulling NL tables. It’s been working pretty well for me.
With the fpp’s i’m collecting , the cash bonuses on stars are pretty good, I can collect either $1500 or $4000 and collect the milestones and for now, that will be income earned and not part of my poker bankroll. I’m hoping winnings online will build my bankroll again. This time, once I decide to play 100NL+, i’m going to get a coach for this limit and above.

Playing online poker, taking care of my girls, and spending time with my wife is going to be a challenge and need to find time to balance all of this and most importantly making family my most important thing to take care of and online second is my task at hand here for 2010. But hopefully I can balance this out even though I need to get a lot of time in at the tables for the fpp’s to earn money at the same time. I’ll have to see how this pans out.

If anyone is from the upstate NY area and plays a lot online, we should get in contact with each other and talk poker.

Best of luck on your journey

How to make poker a little part of my life

Over the past 9 months. I’ve taken the game of poker pretty seriously. Years before that, I just played the game for what it was, recreational, trying to win, but eventually just lose in the end. Around a year and half ago, I started buying books, finding online poker instructional videos, audios, podcasts, forums, etc. Anything that had to do with poker, I was obsessed in the knowledge that was presented.

At this current moment, it still holds true. I’m still watching videos, listening to podcast, reading books, etc.

What jump started me becoming a winning player was playing 4-8 limit at my local casino between October 2008-May 2009. Making more money most of the months than my part time job. It has been pretty exciting always having money. Most of the money I’ve made has been spent on life and bills. I have a wife and twin babies(yay!!) on the way that goes into money I make from the tables. So building a bankroll playing poker live is almost impossible for me. Building a poker bankroll playing live poker is the most impossible obstacle course for me. In the past 3 months, my live poker bankroll is near to none because I’ve been home a lot more taking care of my wife, getting prepared to have my babies. The time I do have playing live, i’ve actually been losing the past 2 months go 2-3 times a month as opposed to going 2-4 times a week.

Over those 9 months, I’ve been playing online as well. Had about $200 to work with between pokerstars and full tilt. As far as winning online, it has been pretty successful using a pretty strict bankroll management. I think what really got me to become a winner online on a consistent basis was Poker Tracker 3.

I’ve gotten to dive into playing NL online. I’ve been building my bankroll online playing full ring NL megatabling 16-20 tables starting at the 10NL and working my way up to 50NL. Took a few shots at 100NL and had to drop back to 50NL. I’ve never really taken a shot to seriously playing 6max NL, which I possibly will one day. Back in april, I thought I give a shot at playing limit both full ring and 6max megatabling getting frustrated at 50NL, lost a big portion of my roll. I thought I could take similar concepts from NL full ring megatabling, and it was a huge huge mistake. So I started grinding 25NL Full Ring in May and worked my way up to 50NL again. Got my roll healthy again and took about 2 weeks off to really concentrate with Limit, watching lots of videos and reading and asking questions from forums on twoplustwo and deucescracked.

Started jumping into 1-2 6max Limit on Pokerstars and .50/1 6max on full tilt and been pleased with my results. I’ve worked my way up to 2-4 6max limit on stars and 1-2 6max limit on full tilt in the past month. Right now, online money is almost like my investment to start playing the midstakes/higher stakes where the money is significant. I’ve never cashed out online because the money isn’t significant enough.

Why am I where I’m at? Why am I switching between Limit to NL to Limit? Why do I playing Limit live and not NL? I ask myself all these questions.

I think it has to do with my life, where I’m at, how to keep myself the least stressed and still have time to keep enjoying the game of poker.

The main reason why I play Limit live is because its actually a pretty relaxing game for the most part. I’m a pretty standard lag/tag. I love playing a tight aggressive game and lag it up at times when the conditions are just right. When I play NL live, I just get to stressed to lose my stack in one hand, even though I think I’m a pretty solid full ring NL player based on my online stats.
Another reason why I played a lot of NL online was because my wife was working a lot and I had a lot of time to play NL for many hours in the day to really show a good winrate online. Now that my wife is at home, pregnant, and I’m going to be a father real soon, I’ve taken the transistion to play limit online because I can play a lot shorter sessions and play multiple times in the day and show a pretty good winrate as opposed to NL online where I play straight 4-8 hour session. I have a lot less stress playing Limit as well nowadays online. Also, with my babies coming, I will be home a lot more and playing limit when I have a free hour is suitable for me.

I honestly don’t know where this blog is going, I think I just wanted to write a little about my poker life in a blog. I’ve rambled through these paragraphs.

If anyone is in any similar situations about how you make poker part of your life and still be a part of life, family, finacial can reply or pm me.

Laptop fried Pancackes

I didnt know we could blog on deuces cracked. What a dumb dumb..lol

Anyways,
My wifes little brother knocked over my coffee cup, filled with coffee and landed on my laptop. By accident, but definately bummed out because my laptop isnt working at the moment. Turns on and shuts off a few seconds later.

Oh well, hopefully it will work in the next few days once everything drys up. If not, maybe someone can fix my $800 laptop.

On a lighter note, i’ve been grinding 6max 1/2 limit on ftp and 2/4 limit on stars this month and has gone pretty well. Up almost $1000 bucks between both sites and really happy with my 6max limit results as opposed to 2 months ago when i went on a huge downswing trying out limit online. I should have watched more videos in detail.
