What it Is, Bros.
Here is the low down. Doing well in .5,1 NLHE on Tilt. Newly dedicated myself to NL as part of a larger plan to stop splashing around in poker and develop some real skills.
Things got off to a rough start as I dropped $350 of my $1000 roll quickly. Then I settled in a bit and stopped trying to run everyone over with three bets, etc., found my grove and graph now goes straight up for 4000 hands to a $300 profit. Aside from tightening up a bit I have become very discipled about game selection and quitting when tired. I know 4,000 hands isnt alot but Im fairly sure I can beat the game at this level. I have about 2.4k online at the moment. A good chunk of that is the 337 finish in ftops #11 which I was lucky enough to get from 50FTPs
Anyway. Aside from be a good NL cash game player I need to set some even more detailed goals, which I will do. Right now Im a full time lawyer and part time poker player, but I think I want it to be the other way around. My folks are gonna have puppies but you only live once and I dont want to waste it. Also, like the professor says in Rounders, what choice. Ive been a lawyer for 18 years if you count law school, and I dont owe anyone a thing. If I fail the clients will still be there in a few years. First though I gotta get the cheese together to get started, that might take a while unless I win some big donkament or such. Right now my monthly nut is about 4k all said and done, but if I scale back the law firm I could make it as low as 1.5k. gotta think on it.
The sit and go challenge I mentioned is officially cancelled. Im bored to death with it and dont want to do it anymore so its done. Tournement wise I will try and pick a few spots to take longshots for real money, otherwise, you can have the low buy in sngs, not for me.
One intermediate step that needs to happen is to get some money on more sites. The best NL games are not always on Tilt, and they sure as hell are not on Stars, so Bodog and maybe god forbid Absolute might be seeing a new donkey soon. If anyone has suggestions as to where to find soft full ring NL cash games Im all ears.
Going on vacation with family on LBI Jersey shore, and really looking forward to spending some time with my brothers kids, 5, 4, 2. little monkies make me happy. Im on ATA airlines with a jacked up itinerary through Atlanta so they will most likely strap me to a duck and maybe Ill live. So illl be off the forums for about a week, carry on without me, never surrender.
edit. btw. some of the recent things that have helped me are J Smiths interview with Goodnight Moon on pokerroad cash plays, wherein a less agressive style is discussed, and an interview with Ivey available on Utube, where he talks about game selection as it relates to being a good gambler. In general I have discovered that like alot of things in life, being yourself is best, and not trying to impose a stlye on things works well. Be yourself and pay attention to the circumstances and you will do better I think. This game is incredibly contextual, thats why its not chess.
