New Higher Limits In Colorado, Brave New World

So, as of July 2nd Colorado has a new gaming law allowing $100 bets. The old law allowed a max bet of $5. I have been playing alot of the new games……..

First off, let me state unequivocally you got to get here to play, unless you hate money. If you hate money, then stay away.

The following games are being spread

1,2 NLH with a $100 cap. Sample hand from last evening. nine handed. Mp raises to $100, Mp2 left reraises to $200. Another guy in one of the blinds calls, Mp calls. at this juncture eveyone has all their money in the pot the board comes T 8 2 3 6. Here is what was flipped over. mp AJ off, Mp2 6,7 suited for the win with a pair of sixes, BB 44. The players who busted out reached into their wallets and rebought. All of the money that these three guys had on the table went in, preflop, with 44, AJ off and 6,7 suited. There was nothing unusual about this hand, it went on all night and while not every game is that soft, many are, especially on the weekend. later in the cafteria I saw the dude who raised all in to $200 with 6,7 arguing with the cashier over the $3.50 price of a small box of cereal. ya, ok. I won a $150 pot in this game pocket sixes, unimproved . Juicy. The thing is you can sit there and observe everyone pretend to be Sammy Farha for hours, then when you do play a hand you would think some would respect your raise, but they just don’t. They call anyway, and there is no amount of money up to the cap that they are not willing to call off.

4,8 LHE. nine handed im on the button with 33, six way limped pot board comes A 7 3 rainbow. check X5 I bet four callers, turn brick check I bet three callers. river brick check I bet two callers. JJ, and A rag, I win a massive pot with flopped set of threes. wtf. even better, when somone wins two in a row, there is a half kill, and the game goes to 6,12. these guys should not be allowed to cross the street unsupervised, there is no way they should be playing 6,12. I did lose a massive pot with an ace high flush to some ass clown playing 9 3 suited when they got a sf, but whatever, thats the cost of doing business right.

4,8 O8 Im in position with A2A3 double suited. i wont go into what happened but suffice it to say my low draw and flush draw to scoop missed on the river and I lose a massive donkey padded pot to a guy playing J 9 Q 3, there are some competant villans in this game, but many will play hands like this one all night, in any position, for any number of bets. wtf. rack of red on table 4! cause I may have lost that hand but im gonna win all the money eventually with even average luck.

1,2 NLH with a $20 cap, I guess you could call it a $2-20 spread limit game. This game has everyone confused, me as well prolly. I do know you can sit there and set mine and catch flushes and get paid the max. At times it plays like a ten twenty limt game while at other times it screws down and you can steal. Anyway its incredibly interesting and profitable.

20/40 LHE. I have not seen or played in this game, but I know a cat who is about as good as me. and he walked away with 3k in two hours. All he said to me was, and I quote: "they like to call, Im going to the bar to celebrate "

anyways, this wont last forever, because the fish will run out of donations but for now, its a wonderland.

Tells? I wouldnt even call them tells, If they manage not to raise or fold out of turn, which is a rarity, you can clearly see what most of the other players are about to do as they have the chips in their hands ready to drop in the pot, or their cards in their hands ready to muck. I watch the players when the cards come out and the guy who looks at his chips is the guy who connected with the flop. In a limit game you can literally glance to your left and tell exactly what many of the villans are going to do. Guys with monsters bet with trembling fingers. people say things like this to me after I raise, “wow, you havent played a hand in an hour, I call.” next to act “ya your right, he hasnt been in many pots, I call too” wtf. then I win the max with a pair of aces, wtf. People give away their holdings on a regular basis and in a myriad of ways, I think some of it has to do with the fact that everyone is excited by the new games and therefore they are playing too loosely, but also not being cautious about tells and being too vocal, giving away clues constantly. Hand reading is complex, and Im not sure I could possibly describe all the ways people are giving away info, but all I can tell you is that the combination of tells and donkish betting and calling behavior make these dudes very readable. Its almost like they are playing with cards face up, they just have no experience with the game at this level.

Basically, what Im saying is that you have a whole community of people splashing around in poker games they have no idea how to play. It’s pretty sweet. Its a berry patch and I am about to grow very fat.

any poker roader who wants to come to denver to play, and who is not a tranny with a heroin addiction, is welcome to come hang out and stay with me. Peace.

I'm from Denver and I've heard that these games are ridiculous. I'm probably going to take a trip up there soon. I'll shoot you a PM if you're interested in heading up/meeting up.

Best of luck, don't drain them dry please!

I play alot at the Ameristar, because it is the most tourist type casino. the NL games. are 1,2 with a $100 cap on a bet. so its really $2-100 spread limit. they also have a $2 to $20 NL, or spread limit game, with a $20 cap per bet. the O8 game is mostly at the Golden Gates. I havent had a chance yet to check out the other casinos, century, glipin, central station and the lodge all also have poker. id be glad to meet you sometime. you do have to be aware of people playing as teams in some of these games IMO.
