Time for A Change
Today I turned four hundred dollars into three hundred dollars on stars. I was really gambling it up, trying to maintian “gold status,†for the frequent player points multiplier it gives you. It was a long day, and I fell short by eighty points, which isnt much. In the end I was playing 10/20 stud hi/lo and quite frankly if it wasnt for a few big wins in that game things would have been alot worse; I think at the low point my bankroll was down to $178.
Anyway, I was largely miserable and tired during the entire session, but I did have one redeeming thought that I think may be valid for me, and that is….. who cares. In Jan of this year I deposited three hundred dollars on Stars, I ran that up to five hundred and now rode it back down to where I started. The truth is this amount of money means nothing to my life. Its a point of pride to be sure. I am pround that I didnt have to rebuy this year, and I would be even more jazzed if my roll was now seven hundred, but either way it makes no difference to my life.
Luckily for me, Colorado has new gaming laws that go into effect July, 1, so I will be able to find good live limit games twenty minutes from my home. The old laws limited any one bet to five dollars, creating a drawing game called two five spread limit that I guess you could call poker if you want, but it is a horrible game and with the rake its a joke. Anyway, the new laws will allow for real five ten and ten twenty limit games and live HORSE, and I should do ok.
I am turning forty next month, and Vegas and the wsop will be my celebration at some juncture, I may even go twice but I need to see about some Court hearings.
Now for the internet,,,,, If Im going to gamble online, from this day forward, it will be for money that matters. I may still grind small stakes for the fpps, or to study a game, but I think Im going to take a shot at some tournements.
Sure they are long shots, but if you win it really matters, unlike the results in these small stakes cash games I have been grinding. I know two players who have had good results lately. One fellow poker roader won ten grand in a HORSE tournement, and I know another guy from the office who won six large in a three dollar rebuy.
So, not to put to fine a point on it, Im going to take a break from small stakes grinding, and Im going to fire up some tournements and take a shot at some real cheese.I will let you know how it goes. Its been about a year since I played consistantly in online tournements, and I should take another look at Harringtons books which I will do. As for the HORSE tournements, I should be good to go there. GL to all you players, never surrender. peace Robert Gauss
