Poker Break = ?

Well my last post was April 2nd I think... then internet poker disappeared for me.  I haven't played live or online since then.  Last Week, I played for the 1st time since then, I rode my motorcycle 600 miles (10 hours) to Atlantic City.  I played 3 sessions, 2 cash and one tournament.  I lost in all 3.  At first, I feel like I played bad, because maybe I forgot how to play.  In retrospect, maybe 3 sessions isn't that big a sample, and I just need to play more..

My first cash session, I lost half my stack playin tight, loosing blinds, and playing a few hands in position.  Then I got my half stack in with AA on the turn when my opponent flopped open ended on the flop, and I made 3 aces on the turn and he made broadway.  I bet sized it to get my stack in on the turn regardless of what came... so maybe that was bad luck.

The second cash session I lost half my stack playin tight and looking up a guy to my left with top pair bad kicker.  After like 45mins I realized i was too drunk and tired and took the rest of my stack and left.

The tournament was weird..  First my buddy who is a poker novice said to the cage after I registered "hey dude.. did you even pay?"(which I realized I hadn't like 2 seconds prievious although I had my seat card and everything).  Almost had a freeroll there...  I doubbled up on the only good player at the table on my left, because he suffered a bad beat and a dealer snafu, and he was steaming.  Then my novice dumb ass buddy  played a pot with me and another player when the other player raised preflop, buddy called on the button, and I called in the blind.  I flop broadway!!  There is a flush draw on board.  I check, player bets, dumb ass friend raises, I raise, and the other player folds (who later says he flopped top 2).  Turn is a blank, I bet dumb ass friend calls, river completes the flush.  I can't remember if I bet or not... my dumb ass friend puts me all in.  I folded my broadway, and an hour later when I am out of the tournament he tells me he bluffed me... not because the flush hit, just because he felt that he had put so many chips in the pot anyway, why not try to bluff.  Gimmie a break!!!!

The only hand I wonder about mostly is later in the tournament .  I had 16K, the blinds were 200/400.  I get QQ and a bad player opens to 1K.  Folded to me and I make it 3K.  Everyone folds except opener who thinks for a minute and calls... I knew he didnt have AA or KK, and prolly not AK.  Maybe he had a PP or a hand like KQ, KJ, etc.  The flop is KT4 rainbow.  Player checked, pot is close to 7K and I bet 6K.  He raises all in, and I am sick.  My read on this player is that he definately has it, and I should probably just fold.  I agonize and fold, and he shows TT.  He says he knew I had QQ or JJ, but I didn't tell anyone what I had I just folded and let him wonder.  I feel like the odds were saying I should call, but my read was I was beat, and I had to fold for a better spot.  I guess my quandry is if I check, he will bet on the turn regardless, and I don't know where I am.. On the flop I can bet fold, but with the pot size and my stack size I don't know what to do.  I bet close to the pot which would seem to commit my stack, but my read after that was that I had to fold.  I could have checked behind but I think my decision is hard on the turn no matter what... or maybe I still could have bet folded a little less.  Or maybe no way around it, I played it the best way and again it was bad luck.  So a short time later I called off 4BBs with A8 of diamonds... was dominated and easy come easy go...whatever.

Looking foreward to playin more poker...

Live Poker is Great!

Not often that I to play live poker at the casino.  Bart says the $1\$2 is unbeatable.. he is probably right.  But when a guy buys in for $100 6 times its a good game!  He bluffed everytime and the one time he won a pot uncontested, he showed a bluff.  I wish I could have won a hand with that guy!  Thats ok, I won a lot of his $$$ from the other terrible players.  I only played a short time (like 2 hrs), won more than doubble my buy-in and never showed down a single hand.  I am a recreational player, don't get to play that often, but this makes me want to play more live.

Tourneys still suck.

I've still playing the small buyin tourneys.  The other night, I played 3. 2 NLH and 1 8 game so I could keep busy and not punt my stack in the other two.  I had really sick bad beats in the NLH tourneys despite playing extremely well and min-cashing. But the small field 8 game I ran like GOD, and took it down!  I'm thankful for the cash, just wish I could run like that in the games where there is actually some big $ to be made.

EPIC FAIL

I have posted before about how I play micro stakes and I play for fun to pass the time.  Well I like to play the 8 game and other mixed games because NLH is way boaring to me plus many other people are better than me.  I usually only play the NLH tourneys because of the massive player pools and prize pools.  I haven't cashed out nor reloaded in over a year.  My online roll is usually between $100 to $300.  I am always looking for good value for my buy-in.  My favorite tourney on stars is the Sunday 1\4 mil..

Yesterday I entered the daily 12.5K on PokerStars for $2.75.  Like I said, I wanna win big for my buy-in.  I also played the $2 8 game tourney at the same time to alieviate boardom, and also keep me from doing dumb things in the NLH tourney.  Well I started the tourney at 5pm.... the same time I started drinkin beers too.  Put my son asleep and went outside around the firepit all while drinkin beers and playin the two tourneys on the laptop.  Well after 10pm sometime I won 2nd in the 8game.  I shoulda won I had a 3 to 1 chip lead going to razz.  I think I play well heads up in razz, but the cards didn't fall my way.  Anyway...

My wife went in for a shower and I stayed outside a little longer.  My only online poker friend was railing me in the NLH.  She and I  were chatting about all kinds of stuff.  After a while I went in, and got cleaned up.  My wife who had been drinkin beers too had passed out in bed already, so I brought the laptop upstairs to the bed.  I was playing awesome!  I had 2.4 million in chips!  I was 2nd in chips.  1st payed like $2500, 2nd payed like $1500.  I was having fun, and never experienced a tourney where I was that deep before.  I would open 1010 for like 70K and fold to an all in for 400K.  It didn't matter because I would still have 2.4 million!  Well you can guess it.  The last thing I remember I think it was about midnight.  I don't remember if there were 35 ppl left ot 350 ppl left when I had the 2.4 mil.  Then I woke up around 2:30 am.  I had busted!!  I got 8th for like $180, and I think 7th paid like $360 or something.  The chat log from my online GF said "wake up!  I cant believe you passed out!"  Plus the tourney was still going with 3 ppl left.

So I totally blew it.  I don't think I was too drunk, I just think it was as soon as I laid down with the laptop on my chest, I got super tired.  I really need a 2K boost to my bankroll.  That would be huge to me!  If I had known that might happen, I would have stayed downstairs and Sitting UP!

So I wonder if I hadn't fallen asleep would I have dusted off my stack and gone out 20th... maybe passing out wasn't so bad... IDK.  Usually when I make it deep I play well and get super excited.  I feel so disappointed in myself.  Ofcourse my wife and online friend are also disappointed in me too.  EPIC FAIL!

Creating an AGRO image in 2.5 hands works!

Im sure that this kinda thing as happened to everyone before, but it made me laugh out loud.

Played the $2.75 tourney $12.5 gauranteed.

1st hand of the tourney everyone with $3K in chips.  I'm on the button, I have 8of clubs8of diamonds.  1 middle position player limps for $20.  I raise to $88.  SB folds and the BB named nindrt (villian in next 2 hands) calls, then the middle position calls.  Pot is $274 and flop is 9of spades7of diamonds6of clubs.  nindrt from BB checks, middle position bets $80, and I raise to $253.  nindrt in BB folds, and middle position calls.  Turn is a 7of clubs.  Middle position bets $200 and I call.  River is a 10of hearts, and middle position checks.  I bet $472 into $1180 and he calls and shows down 8of spades7of hearts and we both chop the pot with a straight.

2nd hand on the cut-off with 10of heartsJof clubs.  It folds to me, and I minraise to $40.  nindrt in the SB calls $30 more and the BB folds.  With $100 in the pot flop is Qof diamonds5of hearts2of spades.  It goes check check.  Turn is 6of spades.  Check Check.  River is 9of hearts.  Check Check.  nindrt shows 7of diamonds10of diamonds and I win with J high!!!

3rd hand now in the hi-Jack, and I have Kof spadesKof diamonds.  A middle position player raises to $60, and I raise $188.  nindrt is now on the button and raise me to $388, and the middle position calls!!!  I then raise to $584, and nindrt jams on me for about $2860, and the middle position folds.  I think for 2.5 seconds and I call.  He shows Jof clubsJof hearts!!!!

I was cracking up.  This was the 3rd hand in a row played by both of us, and I got nindrt to put in his stack in with JJ behind to KK.  Ofcourse when I started this hand I had a bad feeling about this.  I got 2 outed and lost 95% of my stack.

I wasn't mad when I lost, but a little disappointed.

I have increased the bankroll like %25 since last week, but thats still not that much.  I am just playin for fun.  I haven't deposited since last December, but I haven't made any withdraws either (minus fpp hats and shirts).  Just pluggin along.  Hope i get lucky one day and win a big tourney!!

Sunday NLH Bad Beats (really don't bother)

Sun 1\4 mill.  I got short early I had approx 4500. I get 88 in SB and  call a raise from Mid player and a call behind from late player.  I'm looking to flop a set or get out.  Two other players in the hand.  Flop is 877, I check from SB.  Mid player raises to 1500  late player calls 1500, I check raise to 3000 with only 900 more behind (obviously I'm committed just looking for a double call..  Mid player folds, late player just calls.  Turn is a Q and I push my 900 in the pot.  Opponent turns over QQ and I'm out!

Spent 4 hours in the $3 rebuy tourney just getting close to the money1400 pay like 1700 ppl left.  I'm getting short.  I have only 15 BBs left and I get 99.  Not sure how to play it, I'm a recreational player anyway.  I figure pushing all in might be a little reckless because I prefer to wait til around 10 or less BBs before I push with any decent cards.  I decide to bet small around 2.8 BBs and figure if I get raised I can let it go and still be in good shape to min cash or wait for a better spot.  I get a just call from 2 players, one is the button player, reckless early on but been playin solid with a bigger stack for last half an hour.  The other guy moved here about 10 minutes ago, and has been playing crap.  He cracked AA in a 4 bet pot with K6 when he flopped 2 pair.  He is in the SB.    The flop is J J 8 but the SB player over bets the pot which just about puts me all in.  I think he knows that I will fold, and I think he is too reckless to think about the player on the button.  I figure that I have him beat, just worried if the button has a J or better hand, they will call for sure too since they each got monster stacks.  I go all in and the button raises, and the SB folds.  Button has QQ and out I go.

Last tourney I get down to 11BBs close to $$ and a player with 4 BBs pushes all in.  I have A5hearts on button.  I know I should just fold, but I realize he has gotta have 2 worse cards than me, because he is getting really desperate.  I go all in, everyone folds he has 89off.  I spike a 5 he rivers a 9, now I'm down to like 5 BBs and pick up 66, and go all in.  99 calls me and out I go.

I probably played well, and I probably played bad.  These hands are nothing special just my bad beat stories of how I went out in all my tourneys today.  I really don't like it when I listen to other bad beat stories, but I guess I still like to tell them.  Maybe they weren't even bad beat stories, maybe I just play bad.  Either way I'm sure this is a boaring read, but it's not for you.  Just theraputic for me to write it out so I don't go tilt monkey and spew some more $$ in the cash games tonight.

Recreational

I guess I'm just a recreational player.  I work 40 hours a week, raising my family with wife and 2 kids.  I play poker because I like to..., but I am by no means an expert.  I joined DC to improve my game, but I guess I am still a recreational player at heart.  I wouldn't quit my job unless I was stinkin rich.   I love my job... maybe better than poker.

The last post I posted how I ran well in some cash games... of course I went up in limits (outside my bankroll) and i started to win, but then got my ass handed to me as I handed my roll over to someone else.  I still have a bit left, and I have moved back to the limits I used to play.  The thought occured to me that people read my blog (because my usernames are similar), and were expecting me at the higher limits and raped me... but I guess I'm just paranoid.

Actually I have watched some higher level games and  from watching some videos and also the games online I think people play very bad at the 8 game (the game I like to play).  But I lost that session, and I think I just ran very bad towards the end.  Isn't that what every donk thinks...  Whatever...

So I just went back to my normal stuff... Sunday tourneys, and the low limit 8 game cash games.  Actually I have been doing well in the low buy in tourneys and built my roll a back a little..  The tourneys I seem to do ok in are the small buy in NLH tourneys.  I am kinda so sick and tired of these because I think that they are boaring, but they seem to be keeping me a float.  I love the mixed game cash games, but the mixed game tourneys just don't have enough of a prize pool in my mind to make it worth my while.  I wish more people played mixed games or PS offered more guarented tourneys or something...

I guess that I'm just gonna continue my normal grind, and play for fun.  I am not cashing out $$$ but I'm not making deposits either.  I'm just gonna keep doing what I'm doing, and I figure someday I will get really lucky and win a big tourney online.  If that ever happens, I will take a shot to win 9 mil or more at the WSOP or something like that... otherwise I guess I have just learned that my place as a poker player is as a recreational player.  I will continue to try to learn as much as I can, but I realize it's just for fun, and until I become a millionaire, I won't be taking this all too seriously.
