I would say pick a site to start playing on and get comfortable with their scoring system for the sport you're playing. Then check out stats for teams/players and see which matchups seem lopsided or favorable, either for the player or say the team's hitters in baseball. Right, lots of people touting picks like that. You can do your own research to see who has a good matchup, and from there, it's how well you can tune your team based on the salaries of the players of the site you're on! if you're in a tournament you prob want to gamble with higher variance guys than if you're in a 50/50 that pays half of the field. Then you can take lower upside but consistent guys. Lots of strategy to be had. You can go as deep as you like.

Thanks for the info! It seems to me that baseball is likely the sport where the biggest edge can be gained. The statistics are just so much ahead of other sports, and if you know what you are doing I think you could probably do really well.

My best game is basketball. I'm just getting into the baseball myself. It's similar to poker in that we look at variables and try to make the best play, or in the case of fantasy sports try to build the best lineup for the format of game we're in, they offer HU and double up and MTT style leagues. With baseball you look at things like the weather, the park, all kinds of stuff. It's a lot of fun. The one thing it doesn't have that poker does is the pressure to perform in a hand. You do all the research and run it out after you build your teams. Only thing close is if you're multi-siting which a lot of guys do, playing multiple sports, and managing a ton of lines throughout (injury updates and players starting etc. has a huge effect on the value of other guys and obv if they aren't playing as well). I could go on about this forever! But it's not being taken advantage of enough by American poker players :D My favorite sites are DraftDay and DraftKings. No surprise they're run or involved with former pro poker players.

This daily fantasy sports thing is blowing my mind right now. I just recently read a book about a Wall Street trader who created a winning model to bet baseball, so I spent a lot of time over the last few weeks trying to create my own. But I might have to look into this instead as it might very well be more profitable. I'm curious as to which site or sites you think are best and also if you have any particular strategy advice.

Antlers: In which scenario? Which one do I have any control over? Which one do I turn minority into majority? Aside from contacting politicians which has obviously not done much so far, what would you suggest? Do you think I should have a pow wow with Bodonk's higher ups and tell them how I feel? Do you think I should get in touch with the real BFP owners and tell them changing Phil's pw was childish and they'll miraculously go "oh, yeah he's right!"? Lets say for the sake of argument that I wasn't doing ANYTHING to change things, does that mean my criticism and aggravation is less warranted and that I shouldn't write a blog post like this? Are you the kind of guy that thinks that someone who doesn't vote should have no opinion on politics? Or that their opinion doesn't matter because of etc.? I've written about stuff that pisses me off, I'm willing to say what some others may not say, I'm making people aware, I'm entertaining others, and others I'm inducing alcoholism. Whether or not I'm personally taking steps to change this stuff is irrelevant. If I do or do not take steps, there is no non-pissed off. There is no "well I did what I could, so it's all good".

So I've had a look around the site a couple times, the content looks pretty amazing. The only thing that I didn't like was that the intro vid+sound effects would play every time I navigated to the page, which started to get annoying. I know it's still in the fetal stage, but the project has some real potential imo.

I'm playing a pretty ABC TAG style on 2-10NL. problems: - I sometimes spot obvious leaks in other players but I am not able to construct a plan on how to exploit them. Examples: huge fish that bets close to 100% of the time when someone raises and doesn't cbet (miss cbet). How do i exploit him, when I'm raiser+oop? - Playing oop vs aggression - when check-calling is a good line oop? - betsizing - taking good notes; Sometimes I see villains do ridiculous things, I try to take notes, but in the end it's like a novel. Similar to what elpsnot, the thought process involved when making post flop decisions. Learning the "why" behind strategic decisions is sometimes missing when a coach puts up a live play or multitable hand history review review. Obviously poker is a game where being results oriented causes major issues, and therefore bad habits can build up, especially in live play where variance is more noticeable.

My biggest leak is probably the maths aspect of poker. Not regularly applying different calcs and whatnot is a big problem in my game and regularly leads to me making dumb decisions. Not applying solid fundamentals consistently def comes in a close second.

Pretty great post here. I'd like to add that (certainly in PLO) a lot of people create tough decisions for themselves by playing too loose on early streets because they think they can get away with it or out of tilt, which just leads to headaches later on and even more tilt. Sometimes reducing the amount of tough decisions is as simple as folding pre when you should.

I enjoy the social aspect of it. I did it before I ever played online. It's what you make of it and it's obviously not as optimal as online play but I really enjoy it a high % of the time. Sometimes of course I want to skin myself alive with a rusted tin can but all poker makes you feel that way :D

You hit it right on the head. I'm in the fuckin rat race, handcuffed to my 9-5, inflated mortgage, underwater home, car bill... My motivation these past few years was to someday free myself from this TRAP!!! I saw light at the end of the tunnel with poker, where many have already given up, I knew that eventually if I continued to improve, I would free myself from the rat race. To me its not even the money, its the dream of freedom. To get up when I feel like, to set my own schedule, to simply have more time for myself, my friends and family, and like you say explore other interests and knowledge. I have worked on this craft for several years, invested so much time, and not to mention the opportunity cost if I would have pursued something else... and just when I started to see a glimpse of "hey, I can actually do this" and to someday walk into the cage of work and fuck off my boss... this shit happens. I would give up my bankroll to continue with my dream. It's not even the money for me, its the freedoms that poker would have provided me. This is why I'm upset. Great post Chris, you ignited me.

What up Fender, first off i don't think you should delete this blog. Its not often people post this kind of stuff because of its personal detail but to do so i think says a lot about who you are. Most people don't say anything and just go on being miserable. I think this is an amazing first step if you're looking to better things and get your motivation on. We're completely opposite ends of the spectrum but I have strong emotions as well and have dealt with a lot. All it took was a little self confidence and a relation to poker (which i LOVE lol) to get me where i am now. What i mean is, when i finally sat down and analyzed my life outside of poker i found that the steps i needed to take to improve myself were the exact same steps that i took to become a better poker player. For instance, everyday after i had played I kept a log of positives and negatives as well as a post game reflection. All the things i wrote down in the negatives for the day would be the things i studied harder at. Eventually i found i had eliminated almost everything in my negatives when id write post session and that i can actually be a good poker player rather than someone who just plays the game and never adjusted to the change that comes as time goes on. I'm not one to preach or whatever but it sounds like you definitely need some adjustments in your life, and who doesn't. Obv im not saying im perfect, no ones is but after i got on a regular schedule, got my self confidence up, started respecting myself more and started working harder than i ever had before, I became a completely different person. Obviously there are different variables in both of our lives but the fact of the matter is that if you want to change, then change, you CAN do it (extremely cheesy and cliche or whatever but you were honest and straightforward in this post so im going to be as well). You know whats got to be done just as I did. It wasn't easy but its worth it. Anyway, ima stop spewing my thoughts i gotta run. I respect the shit outta you for posting this Fender and hope that we can chat soon. I'm looking forward to our coaching sessions together too. Gl w everything bro. Later

Holy shit man, thats pretty deep stuff you have going on right now and before. From someone on the outside looking in, you seem like you really need to take some initiative. What i mean is, you should get the fuck out! if this is going to make your life better, fucking do it! I know its very hard to start and easy to say. its just the first few steps that are the hardest. after that you will be so glad if things are better, and if it all goes to shit you will just re-evaluate and try something else. at least you will be giving it a go. I'm happy for you that you talked with your dad. And your sister's situation is really messed up. I mean maybe you can not do anything to change it but i feel like you should try something. just talking to here one on one. Take her out somewhere, just the 2 of you maybe a park or something and try and talk to here. make her think about what is happening, how this is going to effect her kids, what impact this is having on her and where this road can and most likely will lead. I know this is so easy to say behind a keyboard and is just my 2c. Hope u work some stuff out.

Great post. Really enjoyed the part about being objective when Tilted or emotional. Personally I find this awareness the hardest part to realize and overcome. Not playing for a living and only playing micros and small stakes myself, I can only imagine the emotional swings you grinders go through. I did not know they were making a Last Dragon remake. I think that this was probably a very good post, but that is probably what I'm really going to take away from it, sadly. Also, while it wasn't even 10% as good as the original, I didn't hate the Karate Kid remake, either. Although the fact that it was kung fu distracted me several times while I watched it.

Great post. Definitely going to have to subscribe to your blog. I've recently found how important it is to get good reads and I've found that even the smallest of reads on a villain can leads to being able to play difficult situations with lots of ease because of those reads.

I don't have much to say except I hope you feel better, and I would take this time you can't really do much physically to think about what you want to do with your life. Your post seemed like you're unsure about a lot of random stuff but you seem to be pretty certain you'd like being near water, so I suggest you work towards that goal. I guess a huge part of being happy and peaceful comes from within. Since you can't control things that happen around you or to you (like getting injured while standing up), it wouldn't make sense for happiness to depend on things you can't control. No one would be happy unless they basically ran good at life all the time. I think you have to accept whatever happens around you and just be happy, or at least be at peace with that fact. Strive towards whatever you'd like to do or wherever you'd like to be. GL.

Interesting read. I try to consciously pay attention to body language as much as possible, even in trivial situations like when shopping for groceries or in public transportation. Not because I need to but just for sheer amusement during a 3 hour train ride. It's like everyone has their own little story to tell about how they feel that moment or towards the people they are with. Even during phone conversations people are having, I feel like I'm getting a better picture of the sincerity and thoughts behind each sentence, even though I have my headphones on and can't hear them. The easiest thing to spot is a genuine smile vs a fake one. That is just so blatantly obvious, people might as well frown when they don't mean it.

TBH I 30000% disagree with you. The entire reason why I was playing lower and a stack of tables is because I LOST a ton of time this month due to my computer breaking. I didn't have a way to play for a week and a half, which for a guy 4 tabling is a lot of time to lose. I obviously know the point of why I made the bet, it's not like I was all OH COOL we'll do it at 200NL and JUST WIN THE BET. I didn't make the bet for that reason. I did however, NOT CALL IT OFF or give up. Even though I lost a bunch of time I stuck with it and completed it anyway, so while you may be jaded, I'm super super happy that I pulled it off. I succeeded instead of giving up. As I said in a previous blog it wasn't about the hourly value, it was about accomplishing a challenge that I set for myself and not tossing it aside when something got in its way.

TBH I think you failed. Was the point of the prop to play 25k hands any way possible? I thought it was in fact meant to motivate you to play 25k hands of your stake, your way. Pretty lame to grind out 25k hands mass multitabling simply to not lose a minor amount of money. EV wise you probably lost more hourly playing the 25k hands than if you had just payed everyone and stuck to your stake/game. Hate to sound jaded but I know from experience of making silly props that my A-game suffers and I tend to lose track of the main goal. Seems you did the same.

Prety cool of that guy to pay for the Roland a few times over in one pot. Lazy-boy owns btw, been using one for my grinding station for over a year now and it's the nuts, f the office chairs imo. Hand 2 as "Dumbest play", he called because he missed his flush draw and had showdown value. It's that simple. This is something i've observed from both fish and weak regs, and even in myself sometimes - if a player has a draw, misses, but somehow picks up showdown value on turn/river, they always call. I think it's because of how much emotional investment they have in the pot.

Thanks Fender for getting back to me.I did mess around w/ Poker stove tonight, FACK that looked gross! (pasted in my Stove results, unreadable shit) anyways after my evaluation, and giving villain a range of an unlikely QQ which he probly squeezes, 88,a6s,86s,75s,and an unlikey 64s turns out we have %43.9 equity. :) I mean when we add in the fact that this player can be doing this with worse for value, it does make it a clear call. It's hard to say if we are ever bluffing this river, it's actually an interesting spot to consider it. This spot will rarely exist though so the dynamic probably doesn't have to be balanced or anything. Obviously it's very unlikely that villain is bluffing here, the problem is that he can definitely have worse for value and the specific player and I have a lot of history, so I think he's def jamming most of his worse value monsters, IE straights and trips etc. Remember also that he's the 3rd guy into the pot with a fish in the BB. His range def has 57s and stuff in it, and honestly 88 is like the only hand I'm losing to IF he checked it 2 times in a 4 way pot. Seems like that's a bit hard to believe as well. I disagree that it's a clear fold, I think with all variables it's a snapcall. I haven't stoved it but I'm pretty sure my pot odds and equity vs. what I expect him to shove here for value is going to warrant a call. Is it a happy call? FUCK NO haha. But it's one I'm going to make for a stack nearly every time with this set of variables.

Yo fender, the third hand where we have 44 and river the boat can we find a fold here? Are we ever bluffing here? More importantly I think villain is never ever bluffing here! Obv we have to raise, but i can't see a hand we beat, and villain never value jams worse. Is villain ever doing this w/ 6x? Whats our raising range here on the river? 6x and FH's? Is villain ever trying to get us to fold that value range? Whereas we get a good price and FFS "I's has a boat!" LOL. I just can't see villain spazzing here ever. I think this is insanely tough but clear fold. Obv you know villain so that could have influenced this decision. Interested in hearing your thoughts.

I guess in the K9o hand it's not so much that he will always call with worse, it's more that I would be bluffing this river very very frequently, so this is one of the strongest hands I'd be bluffing with. Villain is a thinking reg, so even though I don't know his exact tendencies in this spot w/o history, it seems like I could get a number of good outcomes. He could fold a small flush, he could call with a pair. He could call with a small flush or a pair. It depends on how he thinks about me no? Is this no good? I folded the KJ hand. I just couldn't see anything that this guy was betting this big with that I was ahead of. Usually when the plan is for them to roll over bajunky it doesn't end well lol. Why do you like folding less if all we are hoping for is for him to have a missed straight draw or some wack random hand?

I like the checkraise on the turn in the TJ hand. He's always going to fire his pot controlling pairs and if he did randomly check back something that picked up a flush draw he's betting, and A high I'm not going to get more than 1 street out of unless it improves anyway, usually, I would rather delayed checkraise the turn than lead turn and river vs. this type of guy. that may change in another spot vs. another dude. but vs. a guy I'd be leading turn vs. I may just lead flop too, anyway. I agree the whole thing sounds pretty fancy but I think I have solid reasoning. I'm not entirely sold either way yet beyond the turn checkraise.
I think $44 is ok, I had previously used this successfully against this player as well, so I figured may as well keep it uniform b/c if he folded last time he's prob folding this time. Slightly bigger could be a bit better but I think in general unless the bet is super big or super small, he's not going to often make a distinction between similar midsized bets. Yeah river we have flexibility! I don't see myself shoving there a ton but it's possible thanks to.... flexibility! haha. Thanks for the feedback :)

I'm not shy, so HI! TT hand I like your plan, it makes a lot of sense. Sucks that you couldn't play it out imo. JT hand, I think you're getting too fancy, like spelling out your name with chocolate sauce over ice cream or something. His flop check seems to tell us that he's pretty weak obviously, and I think given that, we only get called by AQ and flush draws on the turn, or a turned TT. I don't think he shows up with a ton of those draws, because he'll probably bet the flop with most flush draws given it's a flop that most players cbet close to 100 % of the time if they have like an 86s type hand. I think checkraising the turn is an excellent semi-bluff because his range is super weak, but when you have like the 4th nuts or something, I think we lose too much value by doing that. Another thing to keep in mind is that his flop check tells us that he doesn't want to play a big pot, so we should probably take a line that gets maximum value from his bluffcatchers. What do you think about taking the lead on the turn and betting turn + river? The A4 hand, I think I like the idea of the barrel, but 44 into 72 feels too small for me. It kind of feels like you're throwing rocks in a spot where you probably should be bombing. I think you get more folds from mid pairs and weak turned flush draws (or a combination of the two) and stuff if you bet like 55. The problem is obviously stack sizes. If you bet 55 and he calls, the pot will be something like 180 and he'll have 120 behind. Maybe just bet 48 or so, making the pot like 165 and setting up a better river shove. 44 feels like it's too small to fold a T9o with a heart type hand or something. It's only a $4 difference, but 48 looks so much bigger than 44. It's something about the psychology. Maybe 47 is better too, although there's a very small difference. Fwiw, I think you should shove the river if he calls, because he probably is very call-happy (given the big space between VPIP and PFR) and if that's the case, he's going to consistently get to the river with a range too weak to profitably call a shove. I'm thinking in terms of marketing here, and how you would price your product. Your product is obviously the bluff, and you should bet an amount that gets called less often, but the cheapest amount you can get away with. It's kind of like Apple, pricing their MacBooks as high as they can without making it seem overly expensive.

I really like your play, you make the river very difficult to play for the villain. He'd think that you cant have the monster cause you did not bet the turn despite all the draws. It's also difficult to put you on a bluff, the only hand that I can think of is 78 that you decided to take a free card with, however i think in reality you'd be barreling that planning to rep the backdoor flush on the river as well. I don't know how frequently you overbet bluff the river, but it looks like the added metagame benefit of this hand is that you depolarize your overbet shoving range. BTW there is Dr Giggy vid dedicated to river overbets, kind of very relevant to this hand, I don't know if you saw it.

I nearly always have the best hand w/AT on A77 and his stack is pretty short, so I want him to peel or put more money in w/any 2 cards, which fish will usually oblige. Standard is obv going to be a bigger bet, but given his stack and the board I opted to minbet and let him call w/anything or maybe do something random, I don't think it can be bad really, I'm still going to stack any piece of the board. I don't think he would randomly bet out of rhythm w/an ace on the river, unless he's a spastic/random button clicker fish, then obv it's possible and I'd be more inclined to fold, but he seemed to be the type to just do what he always does, check and call, so his lead to me is a 9 perhaps, a cheap bluff (he may bet bigger with a bluff but maybe not, so I can't place a lot of value on this variable), or sometimes a pair looking for a showdown, maaaaybe that range includes a weak Ax but I discount it for reasons mentioned. I mean, I know we can't rep much with K7 but I don't think I need to rep anything vs. a guy that wants a cheap showdown unless I think he's a "good" player or hand reader, and if that was the case, I doubt he'd be leading the river like that anyway, and I doubt I'd do anything other than fold if he did.

First hand AT. Would villain not have to perceive you as some kind of fish for a minbet on that flop to induce anything? I think I would bet 24 as that's generally what I'm going to be betting in that spot for value, as a semi bluff, or a pure bluff. I assume this the same starting point you had. I quite like the bluffcatch with KJs, however, if villain is a fish does he not have every combo of Ax here and play it the same? If he's bluffing a missed draw on the river would you by default expect him to bet bigger? K7 possible river shove, I think the problem here is that I can't think of any credible hand we would play this way which means if villain is hand reading he can come up with a range of bluffs, bluffs and more bluffs. If he's ABC tight that doesn't matter, but I think that read would need to be pretty solid.
