Super Nova during July and thoughts of SNE in 2011
Ok. So there has been some requests about putting a blog together for my journey getting Super Nova in July and also about my approach on SNE during 2011.
In July, I am going to grind out about 240k hands at 50nl-100nl. Not sure on how the volume will go, but have been running really hot the last 20k hands at 50nl (like ~10BB/100) so will probably be moving up after the first week of grinding in July.Â
My outline of how I am going to get in 60k hands a week will be as follows:
Tuesday and Wednesday: 5 hours of play after work
Thursday: No play because I have night class after work
Friday: 6-10 hrs of play after work
Saturday and Sunday: 10-12 hrs of play. Maybe more depending on how I'm feeling
Monday: Make up any hours that I am missing, but will try and have this be an off day. Will try and go out with my co-workers or catch up on some homework.
This makes up 40 hrs of play which should be about 60k hands. Right now I 18 table but will be buying a 30" monitor in the next day or two in order to grind a bit easier with 20 tables on 1 screen. Anyone have any thoughts on which 30" is the best to get or where I can get one for somewhat cheap (cheapest one I've found is the Dell 3007 at $850 out the door)?
Thoughts on SNE during 2011
So after posting threads on 2p2 and DC about grinding 40-45 hrs a week for 50 weeks during 2011 to grind out SNE and beyond, I am really not deterred at all. TBH, I am energized with the challenge and by all the people who think it is impossible. July will be a big test for me to see if this is even feasible, but if I can work 50 hrs/week, grind 40 hrs of poker, take an MBA class and still have some fun, then 2011 won't seem like that impossible as people are saying. I might have a different tone come August, but we'll see how my progression goes.
I'm a huge fan of this commercial and everyone time I see it, it gives me inspiration, which seems to fit in quite well with this post. Enjoy!

If you want to save some money on your monitor, depending on your video card (which shouldn't be an issue if you have a rig capable of running a 30" monitor) you might look into getting a 32" 1080p TV... the resolution will not be as good (1920x1080 iirc), but it may be workable and save you a few hundred bucks.

I need the screen to have the higher resolution so I can fit 20+ tables on 1 screen, which makes it much easier to grind. Thanks for the idea though.

Best of luck.
There's no question that if you want to do something extraordinary (and SNE is extraordinary in my opinon)then you have to push through challenges that mere mortals shy away from.
Just be sure to recognise the scale of what you are trying to achieve and approach it from the perspective that it is extreme, and that you will suffer terribly in pursuit of your goal.
And make sure you remind yourself NOW of all the feelings you have that are driving you to pursue your goal.
Because when you are 50k hands into a vicious downswing, tired beyond belief and ready to call it all off, you're going to need that reminder from your current non jaded self, to inspire you to push on through it.
Try and keep some sense of perspective - grinding poker for 16 hours a day might be mentally draining, but spend a month as a roofer, a poultry processor or an assembly line worker and a string of bad beats dont seem so bad.
And no matter how bad it gets, keep in mind: - If you are a high school graduate with full citizenship you will never even have the opportuntiy to experience some of the worst work environments in the westernized nations - those jobs reserved for the underclass of persons with a tenuous or illegal immigration status.

I posted it in your DC thread and still think you should consider a ramp-up period instead of going balls to the wall from the get go.
If you wanted to run a marathon you wouldn't begin your training by going out and running 26 miles; you'd quickly burn out and/or injure yourself. Instead you train methodically and build up to your goal.
Is there some reason you can't do 150K July, 200K August, 250K Sept?

Ron,
Thanks for the good advice. I don't plan on grinding for 16hrs/day, but I get the gist.
Yomatta,
I coach college football so once august hits I will be working 100+ hrs/week so won't be able to get that volume in at that time. That's why I'm trying to get to nova in July.
