Off to a fast and slow start in July

So a couple interesting things happened the first week of July.

Poker:

Only got in a little less than 20 hours of poker in during the first week.  Took the weekend easier than I wanted to because of the holiday and then barely played on Tuesday and tonight because I was super tired after putting back together my office, my colleague's office, and my boss' office (am the only one not technically challenged).  Even though the volume isn't what I wanted it to be, I did make a bit more than 7 BB/100 at 100NL.  This has put me over the even mark for 100NL and am almost at 1BB/100.  It is some good variance, but am also playing really well and am not worried this time moving up because my bankroll is in no way in danger.  Hope I run/play well for the whole month because it make playing easy.

New Computer Set Up:

While 18 tabling last month, my computer lagged a bit and it made it very difficult to play long hours.  My current desktop is a custom build I made last summer.  It only had 4 GB of memory so decided to upgrade to 8GB (All hyper Kingston memory).  While 16 tabling today with HEM running and itunes up, it ran really well so was happy I got the upgrade.  Also, I decided to upgrade my monitor.  Was 18 tabling on 2 28" Hannsg monitors and it was just too much real estate to go back and forth on, so decided to buy a new 30" LG monitor.  This thing is freaking awesome.  Was able to comfortably 16 table tonight with room to spare and it was easy to follow all the tables.  Unless something drastic happens, this monitor was well worth the $1050 I spent on it.

Anyways, below are some pics of the new monitor set up and the picture that I have tiled on it :).

Super Nova during July and thoughts of SNE in 2011

Ok.  So there has been some requests about putting a blog together for my journey getting Super Nova in July and also about my approach on SNE during 2011.

In July, I am going to grind out about 240k hands at 50nl-100nl.  Not sure on how the volume will go, but have been running really hot the last 20k hands at 50nl (like ~10BB/100) so will probably be moving up after the first week of grinding in July.

My outline of how I am going to get in 60k hands a week will be as follows:

Tuesday and Wednesday: 5 hours of play after work

Thursday: No play because I have night class after work

Friday: 6-10 hrs of play after work

Saturday and Sunday: 10-12 hrs of play.  Maybe more depending on how I'm feeling

Monday: Make up any hours that I am missing, but will try and have this be an off day.  Will try and go out with my co-workers or catch up on some homework.

This makes up 40 hrs of play which should be about 60k hands.  Right now I 18 table but will be buying a 30" monitor in the next day or two in order to grind a bit easier with 20 tables on 1 screen.  Anyone have any thoughts on which 30" is the best to get or where I can get one for somewhat cheap (cheapest one I've found is the Dell 3007 at $850 out the door)?

Thoughts on SNE during 2011

So after posting threads on 2p2 and DC about grinding 40-45 hrs a week for 50 weeks during 2011 to grind out SNE and beyond, I am really not deterred at all.  TBH, I am energized with the challenge and by all the people who think it is impossible.  July will be a big test for me to see if this is even feasible, but if I can work 50 hrs/week, grind 40 hrs of poker, take an MBA class and still have some fun, then 2011 won't seem like that impossible as people are saying.  I might have a different tone come August, but we'll see how my progression goes.

I'm a huge fan of this commercial and everyone time I see it, it gives me inspiration, which seems to fit in quite well with this post.  Enjoy!

Joining DeucesCracked

http://falker34.blogspot.com/

Above is my old blog that hasn’t been updated for awhile. I am now in the process of switching training sites to DC from Stoxpoker and decided I might as well change my blog as well. Hopefully this will get me blogging more often. I am currently a 50NL 6 max reg on PokerStars. I have about 68k hands at 50NL 6M with a 3.22PTBB win rate and plan on moving up relatively soon (right after this horrible downswing is over). Currently, I am a Graduate Assistant for a college Football team and am in my 3rd term as an MBA student.

I decided to move sites because of all the drama that was happening at Stoxpoker (lots of coaches moving on and a big accusation of a coach scamming students). Looking around the block, it seemed that DC was the place for me in order to improve my 6M game. So not really having too much else to say for my first post on DC, I will say goodbye for now, but I am extremely excited to be here.

Here’s a little something something to get me in good graces with everyone here.
