Some 8game hands

I’ve put in a few sessions at 40/80 8game thus far on my holiday trip to Colorado. The first was in the San Francisco airport during my 4+ hour delay (apparently snowstorms aren’t designed with air traffic in mind). I played well but ran pretty bad in that one, losing both of the biggest pots I played. A few big PLO or NL hands can really dominate your session results, though as a specialist in those games I’m happy to accept the variance.

[PLO] 52/48 FTL
[NLHE] ‘sigh’

I was more successful in my next session, getting unstuck from the day before and then some.
[stud8] backdoor 2pr for the scoop!
[stud8] GIN!
[stud hi] valuetowne

In general, I’m very confident with my 8game right now. I think I’m actually playing quite well in the games I used to be weaker in, particularly the split-pot games. Good thing I’ve got Chuck and Joe on my team :).

In the PLO hand, what did you consider before deciding to check-raise the flop? I was hoping you might be willing to share your thought process.

1) I've got good to great equity against most of his range
2) He's not so deep, so if we do run into that worst-case scenario its not too awful
3) I don't really think I can c/c given that I have so few concealed and nutty outs (just a few 8's imo).

So, best to just pound it in there and hope to realize my equity, or take it down uncontested.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, especially given how busy you must have been on the eve of your trip.
