Table Manners
So I just got back from the live donkament at the local card room. Played pretty good. £50 1 rebuy tourney.
My blog is purely about behaviour at the table, hence the title. I take a bit of pride in how I conduct myself at the table, and tonight I came across an interesting character to say the least.
In the tourney tonight I built up some chips in the mid game basically as my table draw was full of fish.
However, I lost a few spots in the latter stages that meant that when we were getting towards the money i found myself short-<10bbs , with antes in play. Usual tourney drama, u know, running into monsters at the wrong time, caught bluffing, doubling up shorties kinda night, but didnt make any massive errors that I recall.
So anyways, I get moved tables later on in the evening around 17ish players remain, 9 paid. The guy to my left, as I sit down, says, a little too loudly for my liking, "HI HOW ARE YOU", I grinned and said I was ok . He spoke in a LOUD slurry tone, so straight away I know he was absolutely buzzed on booze.
A few hands in comes the key hand, not just because I busted, but because what was said.
It folds to me in the cut off. I peel an Ace first of all, and then a deuce. As I had like 5 bbs and there were antes, I knew straight away what I had to do. So I shove all in. Drunk guy in the button slurs "Howww much is thaaat, its not a lot is it?" The dealer tells him, he looks like he's in physical pain over the decision, then after a good 20 seconds he folds. The small blind, who has me covered like 5 times over, goes all in. BB folds. The Dealer asks us to show our cards, I know im in trouble 90% of the time. So sb has AQ.
At this exact point, before the flop is dealt, the drunk guy looks me right in the face with a shocked expression, and says to me "YOU TOSSER!" Now all you americans, or others from outside the UK may not know what that term means.
Its an offensive term, basically suggesting I choke the chicken regularly, (LOL). The whole table at this point kind of look a bit bemused by his outburst btw, me included.
Me being the level headed guy I am, said to him "thats a bit unnecessary?" and I got up and left as the board is dealt out and I was felted. I was to be honest shocked by what he said as I left the casino. Then the anger part of what he just said hit me. What an ASS HOLE! Then that anger part wore off as I got in my car and i found it kind of funny. Talk about kicking a man while he's down! I'm sure some people would swing for a douche that calls you a tosser when you're all in with hardly any equity :)

I always wondered what that meant. I'm not a huge live player so I have no sample size to draw from, but the casino I have been at seems to be pretty mild, even though they serve alcohol. But a pub first-casino second I'm sure is different as it brings in a lot of drinkers first, and poker players second. So the etiquette I'm sure is more of bar etiquette, or lack thereof. Nice to see you going deep in those things though, and that you felt pretty good about your overall play,
How long does that tournament last on average; opening hand to winner?

Yeah no sense in arguing with someone that is drunk. You did the right thing. Yeah at the casino I go to, there is some kind of verbal fight in between players about every hour and there are only two tables in the room. I've been in several of them. Today my dad got into it with someone and was looking for me to say something, but I wasn't paying attention, so I wasn't much help.

velo- the tournament kicks off at 8pm. It tends to attract anything from 50-100 players, and the FT concludes at say 2:30am. So you're talking 6 hours approximately.
I must say though that this drunk guy was a rarity down there if i'm honest; i'd say in every tournament down there you might get 1 player like this, but on the whole its a really friendly (sober) place, and I have got to know some of the regs well, and its not so cliquey that you feel out of place if you go on yr own, and even when I join a table of 8 unknowns, its good fun.
