My Spreadsheet for Draws

I was a bit bored today and wanted to work on the way I've been playing draws so I've decided to make a spreadsheet.
It's a really simple spreadsheet with the outs that a certain kind of drawing hand has and the pot equity using the 4 and 2 rule (multiplying the outs by 4 on the flop and by 2 on the turn to give an approximate equity)
I've made this mainly to work on my poker theory and math and start to do some work away from the tables plus i think it's pretty easy to use during my play until I get used to make profitable calls with my draws.
Here's what it looks like: User Uploaded Image

It's really simple to use: select your draw and street from the boxes and type in the pot size and how much you need to call.

Fok variance

Yes that's it, i hate variance, however it seems that a lot of what i think is variance is just bad play disguised as running bad.  What's the solution to that? fix my bad play.  For now as i'm playing the micros most of my mistakes are easily "fixed" i just have to focus more.

One of my main problems is tilting after a bad beat, i think i'm starting to work on this... i just need to keep playing can't focus on short term results and if i continue to loose i review my hands and stats.

  1. One thing that helps me with this a lot is to stop with the "cashier syndrome".
  2. Another thing is to stop thinking that everyone is trying to play back at me.
  3. Being able to make hard folds like folding AA on a monotone flop after a CRAI or something like this.... i'm starting to realise that the micros is more about the hero folds than the hero calls

I just gotta keep cool not get emotional and keep playing and running bad/variance shouldn't be a problem.  No need to keep looking at the cashier if i'm making the right decisions (or at least i think i am)

Here are my last 10 days....

I definitely can call less, 3 bet more and be more aggressive, still working on that.

Swingy Session

User Uploaded Image

Today was a swingy session, for me at least.  Started to run bad and got a little bit tilted, stoped for a bit had something to eat and came back playing tighter.

I was able to make everything back and  a little more  :)

Lessons:

  1.  bad beats tilt me, so if a loose a big hand say AA vs JJ going all in pre flop i better watch out because i'm prob. going to get a little tilted
  2. I've gotta stop after 3 bi down, it's my confort zone... after that I play with scared money
  3. After running bad/having a bad session it's good to stop thinking about poker for some time and come back after i'm feeling better.  If i loose one more bi i should stop for the day

Back to leak plugin, checking my last 7k hands

I've been running bad the past week and that ended tilting me a bit... i'm down some buy ins in 10NL since last post but still up since i moved up.

Pre-Flop

  • position: i'm playing way too many hands in the blinds, calling too much in SB (27.6/17.3)  and in the BB (19.4/7.4);  Calling too much in the BTN 27.6/21.7 i think i'm playing a decent amount of hands but should be raising more from the BTN could 3bet more only 3.2% 3bet from button and CO
  • I think i'm overplaying TP kind of hands from the blinds, maybe i should pot control more when OOP.
  • Steal is 30% seems ok.
  • Doing good on HU pots, won 39bb/100 but loosing a little bit when i'm not the pre-flop aggressor
  • Loosing a lot on multiwaypots -228/100 however i'm loosing more when i'm the pre-flop aggressor than when i'm not.  Of my 5 biggest loosing hands on multiwaypots when i'm the PFR two of them i overplayed TP and overpair hands when i faced aggression, need to fold when face aggression more often !

POSTFLOP

  • Flop C-bet seems to be way too low
  • WTSD%: 25% ok
  • W$SD%: 54.9% maybe i'm folding a lot of river bets
  • W$WSF: 40.4 ok

LEAKBUSTER

  • 3bet more
  • Calling a lot of 3bets
  • Squeeze more (not this doing nearly enough)
  • Be more aggressive on the flop/Cbet more/try to take more pots down on the flop
  • Fold a little bit more to flop Cbets
  • 3bet more from the blinds
  • 3bet or fold more hands like AQo-ATo/QTs-KJs from late position instead of cold-calling (i'm calling too much with these hands)

There seems to be a lot of things to work on my game.  Will try working on those things and posting what happens

Had a Nice day

I Had a nice day, it feels great to move up and have some nice sessions.  I think that just some hands and stats review helped my game enormously.

I've played about 3k hands at 10NL since moving up and i'm up about 7bi :D

I'm running 19.9/15.4/1.8 and 3bet:4.1, i can still narrow the gap between VPIP and PFR maybe by 3betting some smaller PP or some Axs as a bluff

Here's my biggest pot from this session:

Full Tilt Poker $10.00 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players - View hand 858023
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

MP: $10.00
CO: $3.31
BTN: $10.53
Hero (SB): $10.43
BB: $10.58
UTG: $18.49

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is SB with A of hearts K of hearts
UTG raises to $0.30, 1 fold, CO calls $0.30, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.25, BB calls $0.20

Flop: ($1.20) 8 of hearts T of spades 2 of hearts(4 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG bets $1.00, CO folds, Hero calls $1, BB calls $1

Turn: ($4.20) J of spades(3 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG bets $2.45, Hero calls $2.45, BB raises to $9.28, UTG raises to $17.19, Hero calls $6.68 all in

River: ($31.89) 7 of hearts(3 players - 1 is all in)

Final Pot: $31.89
Hero shows A of hearts K of hearts
BB shows T of hearts J of hearts
UTG shows Q of hearts Q of spades
BB wins $0.30
Hero wins $29.59
(Rake: $-5.91)

I was in doubt about raising the turn or letting some raise and shove because i had soo much equity, looking at this hand now i think i should have raised the turn... i'm glad the poker gods were by my side.

Plugin' Leaks and back to 10NL

After my last post i managed to play much better (or was on a heater who knows, haha).

I feel that my stats analysis was worth the time because now, after knowing my leaks, I find much easier/more confident to take the correct decisions and think more rationally instead of thinking everyone was trying to play back at me.

I've played 3054 hands of 5NL earning a little more than 5 buy ins.  Here are my stats:

User Uploaded Image

After that i decided that i was playing solid, despite the very low sample i was getting myself into less "trouble spots" and finding it easier to take the correct decisions to plug my leaks from last post:

So as you can see I still got a ton to work on my game.  I think i'll start by:
  1. calling less from the blinds and restealing more.
  2. folding to more 3bets
  3. stealing more

So i've decided to take shots at 10NL again and had a good session!  Manage to handle my tilt well and still "played good"

I've been trying to post more hands on the foruns and study more theory.  Now I've started to watch running the streets and I think it's going to be an awesome series.. for the first time i've found it fun to watch a math/theory based series.

I hope to post some bullet points and what i've learned from it soon.

Cheers,

Review of my last 4.2k hands

PRE-FLOP

  • overall stats: 17.7/13.6/2.75 3bet: 3.4 fold to 3bet: 42.9%
User Uploaded Image
  • playing too many hands from the SB (calling too much) 23.7/15.9; still calling too much from much from BB 14,7/7,1; I could try to play more hands from the button 22.5/18... I should def. be more tight from the blinds as it's my worst bb/100
  • steal 25% could be a little higher and open more from btn
  • stop calling when there more than 2 raises, even if i've got good odds
  • doing bad on HU flops (however low sample and the biggest loser was a bad beat)
  • doing good on multiway flops mainly by hitting sets and getting payed off

HOLE CARDS

  • Most of my money is comming from pocket Aces, big and medium pairs, most of the time hitting set or overpairs.
  • I'm loosing most money with unsuited aces mainly by overplaying Top Pair kinds of hands and being dominated.
  • Not a good sample to see how i'm doing with SC kind of hands.

POST FLOP

  • WTSD: 24.8% ok
  • W$SD: 54.2% ok
  • W$WSF: 40%
LEAKBUSTER
  • playing too tight
  • 3bet a little more
  • calling too many 3bets
  • not squeezing enough
  • need to cbet a little more
  • try to 3bet resteal from the BB
  • need to steal more

So as you can see I still got a ton to work on my game.  I think i'll start by:

  1. calling less from the blinds and restealing more.
  2. folding to more 3bets
  3. stealing moremore

What do you guys guys think about my analysis? Am i missing something? Do you have any recommendations?

How to Review my Stats

Pre-Flop
  • Pre-flop aggression by position: Filter hands by position and check if VPIP/PFR > 0.50
  • Positionally aware: Filter hands by position and check ranges according to hand chart defined earlier
  • Blind Steal: Attempt to Steal > 20% ~ 30% and check getting 3bet against my attempt to steal.  The total profit should be double my winrate.
  • Blind Play: To see if i'm better off folding my blind than playing use filter to play only on blinds and vpip = true, if it's higher than -0.375 i'm making money else i'm better off folding the blinds. Check the same thing when there is a steal attempt.
  • HU pots: check when 2 players see flop, how i'm doing? is it better when i'm the aggressor? when i cold call or when there is no raise?
  • Multiway pots: check when 3 or more players see flop, how i'm doing? is it better when i'm the aggressor? when i cold call or when there is no raise?
Hole Cards
  • PP: PFR/VPIP at least 0.50, see how i'm doing with QQ+, 99-JJ, 66-88, 22-55.  Check hands, am i going too far with them, am i getting paid off when i hit a set?
  • SC: check how i'm doing? is it better when i'm the aggressor? when i cold call or when there is no raise? am i chasing draws? am i getting paid off?
  • UC: VPIP should be much smaller than SC, see if i'm cold calling too much (should always be lower than SC)
Post Flop
  • Check my Cbetting (check with leak buster optimal stat).  People that cold call are often fit or fold, no need to let them view a free turn card.  Agg. Factor should be at least 2
  • CheckRaising not much higher than 1.5%
  • WTSD%: Should be about 25%
  • W$WSF: Should be about 35%
  • W$SD: Should be about 45% and 48% or 52% and 55%

Stop Loss

Something i've been noticing is that my loosing sessions are higher in bbs than my winning sessions.

To fix this I can take an approach similar to a trading strategy and ajust a stop loss for my sessions so that I lose less per average session.

I'll try to stop after loosing 3 bi and after winning 3~4 bi
