NBA players, and tilt control

So I made a trip to Foxwoods these past couple of days. I left forgetting to take money out of the bank, so already I was short on cash which was my first mistake. (I hate pulling cash from an ATM) So I pull out the limit that my bank allows (lol $300) and play some 1/2 live. Which was painI stakingly boring since I play 1/2 rush... so lol there. I made it a big point to simply make this trip about good mindful poker playing and that was it. I didn't care about profit, I didn't care about ego... Well at least I didn't when I first got to foxwoods.

First day Ends and I lose the $300 initially I brought and play some rush when i get back to the room and make $1000, so I shrug off the loss, never really tilted or anything.  I must admit I was definitely a little clueless on how to play a live 1/2 game, since I've only played online and live 500nl and 1k nl. What a joke 1/2 is.... if you are ever considering going to a casino to take a shot at 1/2 or something... do it. Anyway I come back the next day and take out the next $300. This time I run it up a little bit. I double up, I move to 2/5 and make some more money there. I end the night with $800 and happy about the way I played. I played mindful poker. I didn't share strategy or talk it, I took breaks, I ate when I was hungry, I did everything I wanted to do. So I wake up the next morning and just in a 2/5 game again.

The first game I jumped into had a guy who was some whale messing around. He saw me make a play on some woman with T3s  which got shown because I slipped and showed the guy next to me my bluff (first mistake) so I had to show the whole table and bam there goes my tight image I had been exploiting the whole day.  (which btw not a good idea... you essentially can't make a move again since you'll get called light in every spot. So the whale begins playing back at me floating me oop with 62o and crazy shit. I left that table with 2k after buying in with 500. So now here i am feeling on top of the world as most do after booking a nice win. I go back to my room freshen up grab some food, and do essentially everything the professional would do. (*Pat on back*)

So I come back and there is a big comotion over at the 1k nl table... my weakness. I see a huge black guy with a diamond watch and bracelet. Turns out he's boston's center Kendrick Perkins. Funny guy. Quote of the night for sure was "ehhh fuck it.. I'm all in" which came out of perkins mouth every other hand. So you can imagine it was hard for me to resist  to join this game with a fresh profit off the 2/5. I sit down with 2k planning to iso perkins and avoid regs. My plan works perfect and I run it up to 4k. Wow for not having planned to make money this trip, I'm feeling great now. Well he leaves and then another celtics player sits down. Sick... a poker pros dream. So now I'm stuck here and I go up and down, I lost a 2k pot with a straight to a bigger straight but still felt great sitting with a 3k stack.

Long story short Perkins leaves to the main game and his friend the pointguard for the celtics leaves. So now here I am sitting with a bunch of regulars who are coming down off a high of playing in this super juicy game. I should have left right then and there. The game gets hard and I made the mistake of staying. I started talking strategy with a guy next to me and a guy on my right who I dumped my 2.2k stack to by the end of the night. I made a lot of mistakes after that. All in all I only lost like a couple of hundred on the trip, but I could have done better. I should have done a lot differently after the fish left. But I still have a lot to learn. You can bet that next time I come here, I'm going to be much more mindful and learn from my mistakes.

That is one spot where I disagree with Tommy Angelo in that I believe there is some good in focusing on the past, as if you never learn from mistakes in the past we are doomed to repeat them.

Maybe by that he meant don't get too down on yourself? If you focus on past mistakes then you can't focus on getting better. They bring you down mentally and you won't have the confidence necessary to move forward.
