lol Canada
So I turned off the World Juniors finals last night after 2 periods. Canada was up 3-0 and looked like they were going to coast to the gold medal. I accidentally flipped it back over 5 minutes into the third and saw that the score was now 3-2. Russia ended up scoring 3 more goals and won the gold medal by outscoring Canada 5-0 in the third period. Words can't really express the enjoyment I got out of watching the last 15 minutes of that game. Going into HSBC arena Monday night my brother and I were booed and while leaving with 4 minutes left down 4-1 I was heckled. (Which I actually thought was funny but made it easier to root against them) Serenaded with chants of sell out with one fan telling me to pull my winter cap down lower, makes Canadians very easy villains in hockey. I hope that one fan enjoyed being at the arena last night, I enjoyed watching it.
Hockey in my opinion is a rhythm game, more so than any other sport. Baseball is slow, football has 40 second breaks after each play, I guess you could say basketball is the most similar. However there's just something more pure to me about skating with a puck rather than dribbling a ball, I guess it's the continuous movement. When a team gets on their heals in hockey it's pretty much over until they get going again. At that point only a hot goalie can save them and Canada's goalie was a perceived weakness all tournament long and once again showed last night. To quote Jim Carey in the cable guy "The red team sucks the big one!".
Haven't posted too much about poker lately since I've been learning HUPLO. Learning at 50 plo and it is incredibly swingy. I'm convinced that tilt control is the most important part of any omaha game. You just never have awesome equity and there's always backdoor outs that generally come on the turn. Once I get more comfortable with it I'll be posting updates and strategy advice.
Currently starting to get into chess. I knew the rules but never bothered learning strategy at all. It's something I remember playing during 4th grade recess when we couldn't go outside and play. It's actually a really cool game and very thought provoking. I've been playing a buddy on my iphone using the chess with friends app. My main strategy right now is to try and control the middle of the board. Otherwise I basically play a very defensive game. I'm 1-1 so far and it's actually been a lot more fun that I originally thought it would be.
Finally, I need to make a DC short video about how to invest as a poker player. My initial thought was to talk for about 15 minutes on investing for retirement but if you guys want anything else, let me know and I'll consider it.
