Dinner with Dario

First off I wanted to say the food here is outstanding which is a double edged sword for me. I love to eat, but actually have to be careful I don't overdo it otherwise I start to gain weight fairly fast especially without exercising. So far in Barcelona I'm loving the meals, the meats are outstanding as well as most of their dishes. However, last night may have been the best meal I've ever had.

It started off after I got back from Nou Camp which was unbelievable. I took the stadium tour for 19 euros and it was so cool. I wish I knew more about the sport or players but you can tell that it's a special place to watch a game and is definitely on my to do list in the future. The field was obviously awesome and we were able to see the locker room, press box, media room, and a couple of other cool places around the stadium. One of the best things was showing their highlights of big goals in the final room with the football announcer going absolutely crazy, you can tell how much it means to them.

OK, done with that tangent. So anyways I get back from the field and I was about to go out to dinner with Bryan (PrimordialAA), Max (HotKarl), Scotty (ScottyBCash), and Jeff (A french friend of Max's) I was online when I got a message from Scotty saying we'll be over in 5 minutes be ready. Now everyone knows poker players are rarely worried about time so I knew something was probably up. Anyways they show up to my room and say "we're going to dinner" with Dario and his friend. For those that don't know Dario Minieri is a famous high stakes HUSNG player although he now plays mainly live.

So we're going to "the best seafood place in Barcelona" according to Dario. Unfortunately, while I'm usually not a picky eater I am when it comes to seafood. Especially the things I've seen so far in Barcelona (Oysters, squid, etc). I figured it would be OK and I'll be able to get by with no problems. Long story short, the meal was outstanding. Fortunately Max doesn't like seafood either and they brought us the best tasting steak I've ever had for the main course. Overall it was a 5 or 6 course meal and every part of it was just awesome as well as the wine.

In total there were seven of us and the time actually flew by, Dario's a very interesting guy. What was funny is in all there were 3 Americans and 4 Europeans in the group. After the meal all 4 Europeans had a cigarette or two while the Americans passed. We're not even used to seeing smoking aloud in restaurants let alone smoking ourselves. They actually gave us a free glass of scotch to end the night and it while it was extremely nice and I'm sure it was very expensive I couldn't even drink it it was so strong (Weak, I know).

When we got back we decided to do a little sweating. Everyone threw in $100 and we used a random number generator to pick a horse at a $1 6 max final table. What was funny about it is first place was a little over $100 and that's how much we were betting. The hand before break in which we drew numbers some guy defended a raise out of the BB with 82s. Of course that was the guy I got and no he didn't win. But it was a blast rooting guys on and funny seeing how bad the play was from your guy without being to do anything about it.

Couple days left in Barcelona, I've been getting <5 hours of sleep at night so while not intentional hopefully getting back on schedule when I get back won't be nearly as hard.

Sounds like this is shaping up to be one helluva trip imo.

+1 on Camp Nou tour being amazing even for non-soccer fans (I'm a big soccer fan). My wife was less than thrilled when she heard the tour took 3+ hours but she ended up loving it by the end.

If you can make it to an el clasico (barca vs real madrid) the atmosphere will totally blow away any sox/yankees, ohio state/michigan, duke/unc thing you've ever experienced.

yeah el clasico would be a larger grudge match than anything in North America ~ all of the football world would have a horse in that game.
