Baseball Season is here
- The off-season feels like it takes forever and now baseball season is finally here. Spring training games have started and it’s always interesting to see players with new teams such as Halladay or even Beltre, Scutaro, Lackey for the Sox. One of my favorite parts about spring training games are when it’s a close game late and you have number 84 pitching to number 68 in the ninth inning. Both guys are trying to impress the big club but nobody else really cares.
- I’ve never seen a more polarizing player than JD Drew. Fans either love him or hate him, as the leader of the JD Drew bandwagon back in 2007 when he was struggling I was thrilled when he hit the GS off Carmona in the ALCS and was very happy to see him rebound with 2 very good years. Here’s a great article on him and if I hear one more complaint about his RBI totals, well I am just going to snap. In fact I’m making it my litmus test to see how much someone knows about baseball. Would you like to have JD Drew on your team? Link
- I read this funny article about advanced stats in baseball broadcasting which stats out with a very funny story about Chipper Jones. Link His reaction after the first pitch is priceless.
As far as my predictions, here are my off the cuff picks.
AL East- Redsox (Not biased or anything)
AL Central- Twins
AL West- Mariners
AL Wild Card- Yankees
NL East- Phillies
NL Central- Cardinals
NL West- Rockies
NL Wild Card- Braves
AL Cy Young- Felix Hernandez
NL Cy Young- Chris Carpenter
AL MVP- Joe Mauer
NL MVP- Albert Pujols
Sadly I haven’t started researching fantasy baseball yet so I’m not sure of all the rookies but it’ll be interesting to see if teams call up guys like Strasburg and Hayward right away or let them sit in the minors for 2 months to delay arbitration.
- Poker wise things are going great I’m only 2 tabling on my macbook pro and not suing a HUD. Also since i don’t have HEM on this computer I’m avoiding checking the results. I have no idea how I’m doing so far this month but I’m playing well and hope that continues throughout the rest of the month.
- I’m almost finished with episode 3 of Down on the Farm. I decided to make it at 100nl as the 50nl style I play just isn’t very exciting and anything more than one episode would be overkill in my opinion. However it did get pretty good reviews so hopefully episode 3 receives more of the same.
Best of luck

Clearly a batter should be judged based on his teammate's ability to get on base in front of him :) Think of baseball like poker. Those who don't get enough RBIs don't game select well. Those who walk are too nitty (Bobby Abreu anyone). People who K a lot and hit a ton of homers are loose donks who run well.

Good prediction on the AL West. The Mariners have had an abysmal last few years, but this is for sure gunna be a good year. It's been soooo long since they've had some decent pitching. I cannot wait!!!
