Since I’m not quite a professional yet I don’t have any cool stories to tell you guys about the poker lifestyle. For now it’s just hand strategy until I breakthrough. I do have a few underground live poker stories if anyone is interested….
Anyways, as far as I know villain is a typical Loose Passive Fish. I open AJo in the C/O and he flats on the button. Flop is pretty good an I lead out for value and he flat calls. I think his calling range here is AK sometimes, AQ, a lot of weaker Ax’s, flush draws and straight draws. I think he would raise the flop with a set and sometimes a monster draw. Well the turn sucks in that it brings a diamond and a straight card. My first instinct here is to check/fold. Well he checks behind.
If the river is a blank then I think a Bet/Fold is the best option. He could still have a lot of weaker Ax’s in his hand. Well the river comes another diamond and it goes c/c and he flips over Q10s for the straight.
Well, looking back on the hand I think I could’ve bet the turn for value and then folded to a raise. After all he is a loose passive fish, I didn’t know much about him and he could show up with all sorts of random junk hands. This was confirmed when I sent this hand to my coach. He said betting the turn is a must. I didn’t lose big on the hand but I think small hands like these are worth going over.
I dropped down to 50NL recently because I spewed a few buy ins at 100NL. The rule is by my coach is if you spew that its a must to drop down in stakes. This helps plug emotional leaks in your game and I suspect that it builds a little more discipline overall. 50NL and 100NL really aren’t much different. The only difference I really see is that sometimes aggro 200NL regs jump down and try to run you over.
Well, these are the types that I have trouble with. I am a super laggy aggro player so its kind of funny and ironic that these players give me the most trouble. They have more hands in than I do against more aggro players so its not too surprising. The guy I spewed to spewed to me a few sessions ago. I posted the hand on here. In case I have any followers it was the A2s hand a few posts ago. Anyways, this time I gave all his money back.
The sick thing was that every hand I lost to him went him raising, me 3 betting, him min 4 betting and me shoving! I mean yeah, min 4bets usually mean huge hands but I didn’t give him credit the first time and shoved with A6o and he flipped over KK. The sequence went the exact same the next two times with A10VAK and finally QQVAA. My gut told me to fold but I just couldn’t fold to someone I had labeled a spewtard! AHHHHH.
Oh well, thats what this is all about right now, learning. I’m not expected to make any money I am just expected to try hard and get better. It’s just frustrating sometimes I feel like I should be so much better and at least turning a decent hourly but I’m not yet.
Off topic, I am considering moving in with my Coach in January. This wouldn’t have been an option but my GF and I are constantly fighting and I’m not so sure it will work out. We had a talk and she wants to part ways in December. She is my first love so it does have me bummed out. it’s going to be really hard when the time does come when we have to go our separate ways. It will be a year together in January, my longest relationship by far. I also hate school right now and am strongly considering retiring from it completely. She is the complete opposite. I’m still in undergrad from taking 2 years off and she is already in grad school and a yr younger than me. I thought she was just my type, sassy, tall, nice legs and ass, tan, a little dorky. She is the sexy librarian type! The kind you want to just pound out every time you see her. I am going to miss her……
Anyways, back on topic. We are trying to decide between North LA or Vegas. The games in LA are apparently really juicy and Vegas, is well, its Vegas. There is always a game and it will be lots of fun as well! Although, I am more eager to start grinding HARD than actually going out. I want to hit Super Nova sometime in the early part of the year and start making a good hourly. I would ideally like to put in about 40hours a week for the first half of the year and build up a roll for the WSOP. I don’t think we could go wrong with North LA because it isn’t that far from Vegas anyways so I think ultimately we will move there….
