Back to Live

Thats where I got my start playing underground live cash games around Denver. I also used to get into casinos using a fake ID. I had huge tilt problems but wasn't 1/2 bad.

every once in a while I would hop a flight to Vegas with some friends. I did pretty well until the last few trips when I'd spew a bunch.

Anyways, I've been out of the loop for quite sometimes. Before I knew where all the games were. It was a depressing scene. The people in it were terrible, the dealers were sickening degens and everyone was just ripping each other off. I kept my mouth shut and played after working a job serving food. I would show up at about 1and play till the morning. The nice thing about working in food is that the hours were felxible. If you were good they gave you the best shifts and they were at night. It gave me time to sleep during the day. I did well.

I went up to my local casino just the other night. I sat down at a 1/2 game which seems huge if you started at the micro stakes. I didn't start there but if you read my blog, ended up there. I imagine it will be hard for some of you micro stakes grinders to reason playing a live 1/2 game but let me tell you....

The enormous mistakes they make more than make up for how big it will feel to you. For example, EP raised (an older nervous fat lady whos erratic play is un-explainable), guy in MP flats (He was the type who thought he had it all figured out. Word for word "Sometimes you just feel it and ride that wave). Guy in CO Shoves 50bbs (He acted like he knew what he was talking about but puts everyone at the top of their range. You'll notice live players do this all the time. He was also on tilt. Nice watch though!).

Anyways, Fat lady flats and so does MP. Flop Comes ATx. Goes Check Check. Turn K. EP Checks MP Bets $100, Fat lady calls without thinking much. River blanks goes Check Check and Fat lady flips over pocket J's. MP Flips over KQ for pair of K's.

Guy who shoves says he shoved suited connectors and gets up and leaves.

YES!! It really is that terrible. They do play that bad and there is a lot of money to be made at live 1/2 and 2/5!! There bet sizing is atrocious. Their tells are glaring and they can't read board textures. They limp fold EP like its their jobs and if you get under their skin will look you up with J high (I've seen it!!)

Anyways, I think until everything shakes out with this online I will play live. I found some underground cash closer to my house than the casinos I will probably go to. One is 50/1 game. That will be a little more affordable. On Saturdays I think I will spend my time in the casinos and maybe all day Sunday as well. Ideally, I would like to find a live PLO game. What I have learned from Johnny and quickpro is more than enough to crush live PLO. Hopefully I can arrange a HA game because that may be the only way I can get NL fish to play Omaha.

I never really got a chance to apply what I learned to PLO to online PLO. My schedule hardly allowed it. All I can say is my game is starting to feel much tighter than it used to overall. I will continue studying because its rubbed off onto my hold em game in a way I never thought it would.

I am going to take this opportunity to study live. I will be making observations about what I notice and posting them in my blog. I did not take this learner approach in the past. I think it will be a good way to keep me fresh and thinking like online players do. Its very easy to become lazy playing live poker. They're shallow level of thinking rubs off on you sometimes. It was funny listening to them talk about a previous hand. Their thought processes never went past level 1.
