Degenerate Goals
I watched WOT debut video pokersense last night. I took the Meyers Briggs Personality test about a yr ago and it was nice to see it applied to poker. It reinforced what I suspected that my personality type goes hand in hand with poker. There are many INTJ's and INTP's in this game and I came out as an INTP. Its encouraging to see that I'm on the right path to success!
I've been reading a few blogs here and there and have been noticing a few things. Just by simply reading a persons blog you can get a sense of what stage they are in their poker development as well as in life. There are a lot of people on here in a stage that I was in just about a year ago. I'm not here to brag or anything but in Pokersense WOT said its very important to plug your own leaks. Once you plug your own leaks you can begin to see them in other people. I think this is what I am able to do now not only in poker but in my daily interactions with people. The very ego that has held me back so much in life is now very obvious when I talk to people. It just jumps out at me now when I talk to people how blinded they can be from their ego's. Its easy to lead yourself on a path of destruction simply by letting your EGO guide you through life. A lot of people are never humbeled and they use it successful. Most will be humbeled and those that understand why will be able to turn this so called failure into a GREAT SUCCESS (Borat Voice)!
I can say that I haven't been able to completely remove my ego from every situation in life but it has been getting better day by day. Its interesting to see the world in different colors once you're able to seperate yourself from it. The feeling I get I cannot really describe other than to say its extremely enlightening. I sense a different energy from people than I used to both men and woman. Its kind of like taking a completely different path than others. If you master this I believe you will be able to walk through rain drops ( Not literally, but maybe).
I'm still grinding 5NL on both pokerstars and FT. On Fulltilt I have been playing rush because its so soft and the rakeback. It will speed up moving up for me. I make a concious effort to play Rush in a certain mind set compared to regular 6MAX. I don't want to get so used to rush that I can not re-adjust to regular poker. When I am in my most calm, ready to grind for a long session mind set I play regular 6MAX. When I don't have so much time to sit back and get into the Zone I play Rush poker instead. I also play maybe when I have a small window before I do something, lets say 30minutes before going out or bed.
I haven't really set any goals lately, just kind of going with the flow. This is probably holding me back somewhat so I am going to set a few in this blog. I am starting to shot take at 10NL. My winrate for 5NL is good enough where I can comfortably take shots here and there with supreme confidence. There is no difference whatsoever between 10NL and 5NL. I read a blog today about a guy outlining the difference between 2NL and 5NL and he only had a 1000 hand sample size. The things he listed were really dangerous assumptions to make and I could see he was setting himself up for the some awkward situations in the future.
I want to be at 25NL by January 1st which means I would at least need $500 in bankroll. I don't have quite that or a roll for 10NL but I think with proper shot taking I can be under rolled for 25NL and still play it profitably.
This also means I have to make a few sacrifices in my daily life. First thing is after this weekend I will slow down significantly on the partying until the new year comes around. I have been on a redic bender recently and I have to balance it to make this work not only in poker but also everyday life. I haven't been going out during the week but when Saturday rolls around I'm on the moon and don't come back down until Sunday night.
So this Friday is my friends event, Remedy Relief, which I am mos def going to go into full on rager mode at. After Friday I am not buying any more advanced tickets to shows until around New Years when STS9 and Emancipator comes to town and Crystal Castles come to Boulder theater for New Years eve. I really wanted to check out Bonobo and this Dubstep DJ called Rumble Junkie on Thanksgiving eve and night but I think its better if I just relaxed and put in some hours at the tables.
Another thing is I haven't been very good at waking up in the mornings like I had been to put in a few hours at the tables. I think maybe I will watch a video instead so I can go through the concepts throughout the day at work. Then when I get home I will have a better understanding of them and get then apply them more efficiently.
So thats pretty much it. So, my ultimate goal is to get to 25NL by January 1st 2011 and put in more hours at the tables. But how many hours a week? If I can wake up at least 3 days a week early at 6:30AM and watch 1 video that will be 3 hours of videos a week, maybe more. Then when I get home from work at night I can put in 2 hours at the tables Monday-Friday. Thats 10 Hours of play during the week and then if I don't go to any more shows til New years I can at least play 3 hours on Saturday night and maybe 5 hours on Sunday. So 18 hours a week of play and 3 hours of videos a week. That sounds pretty good given that I work 60 hours a week and don't really get Saturdays off.
The only problem I do see with this is I don't like to force my play. Everytime I force play I tend to spew stacks. So, I need to be honest with myself. If I can't play then I can't play right that instance and should avoid it all together.
As long as I can control Mr. Rager....

Really liked first paragraph. Must be hard to balance poker and 60 hour/week job. Good luck :)
